PMH back to normal

Dominicans awaiting non emergency surgery at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) can now breathe a sigh of relief, as they are being told that the anesthetic drug shortage is no more and everything is back to normal.

Last week the ministry of health took a decision to scale back on non-emergency surgeries following a shortage of anesthetics at the PMH.

However Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Johnson, has said the drug is on island and non emergency surgeries will resume.

“I’m happy to report that we have received our supplies and today things are back to normal. We are back on schedule in terms of doing both elective and emergency operations,” he said.

Johnson also apologized to those whom the decision had inconvenienced.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused but like anything else, we have to act very responsibly in what we do. We ensured that we had sufficient drugs for emergencies and because we were low on stock we had to take the decision to do only emergency surgeries,” he explained.

i am confused as to why so many are troubled by this. There has been a worldwide crisis of drug shortages as many of these drug companies are no longer making generic drugs…because it’s not profitable. I am a surgeon in Philadelphia and there has been shortage at our hospital and many of the university hospitals in the area. so i am not surprised that this has affected Dominica. The government did the right thing!!! this is not political. they protected us all by saving what we have to be used in emergency situations and postponing elective surgeries.

ok so if drug manufaturers continue to not manufacture the cheaper generic drugs it means soon there will be no surgeries at all elective nor life saving so I see a big reason to be worried. Huge in fact.

What steps is DLP taking to ensure that we will be in a position to afford to buy the more expensive drugs if it comes to that? Apart from building the state palaces and stadiums of course.

And why is this a news item? Thought that was information for D st. Luce and his team – an internal matter…

To the Minister of Health and the Medical Personnel at PMH: The hospital is not a supermarket or a shop on the road side. You just cannot run short on anaesthetics. Scaling back on surgeries like goods on a shelf. People could die in the process!.

This is really pathetic. In future please ensure your staff do a stock count and make your orders on time.

So in case of major incident where there could be
    Causalities..PMH can’t show it’s colors..wow

But again Dominicans are just not smart or heads up Type Citizens i mean the majority a few bark but they are far out…

A intelligent society, chances of that happening is almost zero, or someone looses their job or a Inquiry is held instantly…

But again is Dominica a island that is Failed State

“PMH back to Normal” is indeed an interesting caption for this article. But really, is the hospital back to normal? Is the CAT Scan now working? Are diabetis testing strips available at CMS? Is hospital security adequate?

A Lot of questions have to be asked to the people who are responsible for maintaining a full stock of supplies to PMH.
This is a sad situation in my land , that these short sightedness can go on without anyone being held accountable. But again, “look who we have a their leaders.”
It is not joke when great minds say that the work-force reflects its leadership.

As a leader, would you be able to do better? Maybe you should step up to the plate and take the lead.

they are busy buying all kind of garbage, wasting valuable resources. It seems as if someone is working on commission. we surely need a stronger audit presence at this institution.
