The Dominica Cancer Society Inc. will join the rest of the Caribbean in observing June as Cancer Awareness month.
The Society continues to be alarmed that Prostate Cancer continues to take its toll among the men population in Dominica. Statistics show that in 2008, 49 men died of Prostate Cancer. In 2009 45 men succumbed to the disease and in 2010, 37 men.
The Dominica Cancer Society Inc. is please with the awareness and response that the on going “Breast Campaign” has brought. However, much work still need to be done to raise the consciousness of the Nation that Cancer is preventable.
The Hoop for Hope Family Fund Day, carded for June 12, 2011 is hosted by the Society in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Youth and Sports and will serve as medium for raising consciousness of the deadly disease.
The high light of the Day’s activities are; 1. Hula Hoop Amatuer Championship #2. And secondly, “A Candle Light Ceremony”, which will end the day’s events.
Join Us in Fighting Cancer on all Fronts!
Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. Most prostate cancers are slow growing; however, there are cases of aggressive prostate cancers. The cancer cells may metastasize (spread) from the prostate to other parts of the body, particularly the bones and lymph nodes.
Prostate cancer may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, problems during sexual intercourse, or erectile dysfunction. Other symptoms can potentially develop during later stages of the disease.
Now the topic is about prostate cancer ,you stupid people are concentrating on gays, wake up and smell the roses, gay life is not a new form of life.We eat to much factory or chemically grown foods which we now call processed foods..eat food from the soil and use compost such as rotten vegetables, animals dung or poo instead of using chemicals,i hope “gramazon” is no more allowed to enter in the country, kfc, macdo should be banned, raise your own animals ,at list you are sure of what they eat,..Hope this helps..and good luck to those who are going through such pain and men get yourself tested …
The Dominica Cancer Society Inc. would like to thank all those who have responded, so far. We feel very encouraged. During the Hoop for Hope Family Day carded for Sunday, June 12 at the Sports Stadium. A special site will be coordinated by Gentle Rest Funeral Home to remember those who have succumed. All are welcome to join us. Let us Fight Cancer on All Front!
Prevention is better than cure!

Dominica have too much bogarrers now. That’s a way to dectect all those closet gays!!!!…what do you think happens when you have a big man jamming on your prostates like that?….it gets inflamed!
stop BOGGARING!!!
Please get educated before responding. How does “bogarring” like you call it have to do with prostate cancer? There are straight men, and I mean straight like an arrow who have or either succumbed to prostate cancer and I cannot see how you have drawn such conclusion. I am a female and I have family members who are dead today because of this cancer and YES, THEY WERE STRAIGHT.
I disagree wholeheartedly that this comment (bogarring) contributes to prostate cancer. My father and borther died of the disease and neither was gay or “boggared”. I know of countless other men who currenlty suffer from pc and are fighting for their lives. Some people think that they have to commect on EVERY story read on DNO whether their comment makes sense or not. It’s such a strange phenomenon.
OH MY GOSH. SORRY BOGGAR AND CANCER ,GET IT RIGHT IN THE MEANTIME. WHOEVER U ARE THIS DOES NOT REALY CONTRIBUTE TO THIS TYPE OF SICKNESS.
You are a FLIPPING FOOL.
Guys, please understand your risk factor.
If your father or brother has prostate cancer and you are of African descent, you are twice as likely to develop the desease as the rest the population.
Get yourself checked. This digital rectal exam, although not the most dignified procedure, only happens once a year for 1 minute. Don’t let that get in your way.
this is a really really serious deal guys. i watched my grandad deteriorate with this condition…i will never be able to get that out of my head.
don’t hesitate. get checked now and as regularly as advised by your doctor.
Another cause is the amount of sexual partners one man has, god didnt deseign the male body to f^^^ here there and everywhere all you just killing all you selves when all you have how much different woman to f^^^, and the sad thing none of these woman are being satisfied LOL
VERY TRUE. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRUE.
You sound like a complete idiot.
boy boy hope by the time i’m 40 yrs they will have a new way of testing
i cannot stand a finger in my you know what i know a great percentage of dominica back yard boggie fellars will appriciate the method
you are quite foolish!! and ignorant….that’s why a lot of men dieing…pride!!
Read d comment well eh “i cannot stand a finger in my you know what”…which means 2 me u doin it eh pal or at least u try dat ‘method’ already..
The Prostate exam can also be done through a blood test, but if you have to take a finger up your ass to save your life, i really do not see the issue. Lets get over these fears.
@weh
Maybe we should take a look at how we go about growing our ‘local produce’.
Cut down on all those imported herbicides and weedicides that are band from use even in the country it’s manufactured in. That in itself should tell you something.
Some of these chemicals even remain in the foods that we grow. I’m sure many of us have observed some yams and other root crop that have rotten spots growing from their core…
All of those chemicals have also been seeping into our water supply…
Dominica is supposed to be the nature island of the world so let’s sit down and have some dialogue
with our educated and experienced agronomists to find natural alternate solutions to weed and pest control.
It appears that the numbers are going in the right direction. That’s a great sign. Lets keep the awareness going and hopefully, one of these days we can contribute to finding a cure.
Early detection is very important and Men check yourselves every year once u have reached 40 years. Do it annually and follow your Doctors advice.Do not wait till it is too late.
********* Let’s start in reducing the many crazy type of processed foods we import!!!*********
…….and to eat more of what we grow!
