Increased staff satisfaction and an improvement in patient’s care are the expected outcomes of an EC$9,000 donation of office equipment from the Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) to the Dialysis Unit of the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).
A refrigerator, two flat screen televisions, three office chairs, a microwave oven and a filing cabinet formed part of the donation.
“We hope that this contribution will further enhance the environment at the Dialysis Unit which should result in greater staff satisfaction and an enhanced patient care,” Director of Clinical and Community Affairs at the Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM), Roseanna Emmanuel said during the handing-over ceremony at the PMH Polyclinic conference room.
The supplies were handed over to the Hospital Services Coordinator, Clayton Bryant, by Dr. Stanley White, Interim Senior Associate Dean, of Ross University.
“Ross University remains committed to making a difference in the lives of the people of Dominica while educating Ross Medical students on the island. Giving back to the community is a significant part of our mission,” Emanuel said.
She noted that the provision of quality health care requires dedicated staff who works in a conducive environment with the necessary amenities and incentives.
“Therefore it is important to improve staff welfare which will enhance patient’s care,” she said.
To date the RUSM have made donations to 21 health centers on the island as well as the PMH.
Hospital Medical Director, Dr. Ruby Blanc expressed thanks on the behalf of the Ministry Of Health (MOH) adding that the donation is important and will go a “long way.”
“As we are aware the Ministry of Health cannot successfully function on its own. Partners such as RUSM are critical that we are able to deliver high quality health care and RUSM has indeed proven constantly to be a very reliable and, I daresay, very faithful partner to the MOH and PMH,” she said.
She stated that she wishes the collaboration between the two parties continues “to be a long, successful and fruitful one.”
