Minister for Social Services and Gender affairs Gloria Shillingford, is calling on the various persons with responsibility for the protection of children to work together to ensure that justice is dispensed.
The minister made the call when she addressed a stakeholder’s consultation on child sexual abuse this week.
Statistics show that there is a significant increase in the number of child sexual abuse on the island.
“Child protection officers particularly the welfare officers, I want to remind you that the nation’s children depends on you not only to assist in their protection but also to take necessary actions to that justice is dispensed,” he said.
She said police officers and welfare officers must continue to work in partnership.
I’m elated she says that ” Polices officers should work in partnership”.. But our children are also beimg sexually abused by polices officers too. Police officers should be the one to help protect the frail and vulnerable. How can we protect out children when almost every thing civilians do police doing it too? Likw the saon say;.
If you know of a child being abused by a police officer you should report it to the officer’s superior or commanding officer. When you go the police station to report it take with a reporter from a newspaper.
Make it clear that you must speak with the officer in charge and will not discuss the problem with a clerk or an officer at the front desk.
If you are aware of a police officer abusing a child and it has not been reported you should report it yourself. If you do not do so you are as bad as the officer. There is a heavy responsibility attached to knowing. The moment you receive this knowledge you have a roll to play.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.
Amen, Start with mothers who know it is going on, and allow it anyway. And neighbours who see it and say nothing. Come on people!!!
If you know a child is being abused and you do not report it to he police unless you know it has already been reported.
If you are aware of such a case and you have not reported it you are as bad as the abuser. At the end of the day you should be in jail with him (or her).
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.
I hope that this is not all talk, but she will take the lead in bringing change to this situation. The first thing is to implement laws or reactivated the ones in place. Perpetrators need to be deter in some ways, others need to be made an example of. I am so sick and tired of these men being protected while the children are left scared and hurt. Too much talking, time for action. We know it is happening, we do not like it, therefore something has to be done.
