Financial Data Services Limited’s (FDSL), a software development company in which the Dominica Agricultural Industrial and Development Bank (DAIDB/AID Bank) has a managing interest, announces the appointment of former National Employment Programme (NEP) intern Vernelle Sylvester, as Manager of Software Development Implementation and Support Services.
Mrs. Sylvester, a software programmer with a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the State University of New York, expressed gratitude for this opportunity.
“I am sincerely thankful to and appreciative of the AID Bank and FDSL for the opportunity to use my skills to the fullest.”
Mrs. Sylvester and a computer programmer intern work collaboratively with the Bank’s Management Information Systems (MIS) Department.
In addition to working with the AID Bank FDSL also provides loan management software for development institutions in Dominica, St. Lucia, Jamaica and Belize.
Interns were assigned to the AID Bank (including those placed at FDSL), through the Bank’s partnership with the NEP.
For AID Bank’s General Manager, Mr. Julius J. Corbett, the NEP initiative is one that is exceptionally valuable to Dominica.
“This programme contributes to national growth and development as it provides the opportunity for many qualified young Dominican professionals to obtain much needed work experience while contributing their knowledge and skills to local entities,” he stated.
Mr. Corbett commends local employers who have already employed NEP interns and encourages others to do likewise, as he believes that this augers well for the success of this Government initiative.
It is the desired intent of the DAIDB to offer employment to a number of the NEP interns at the end of their trainee attachment to the AID Bank.
I am very happy for Vernelle.
But the question is why a young lady with such excellent qualification have to find herself in an NEP program to gain meaningful employment. ( This says allot about our Country).
The sad message I am getting from this is the graduates from high school and technical college are going to have an uphill battle to find short/ long-term employment in Dominica.
What happen didn’t u listen to the calypso, “the country nice boi”. But that is very true, it says a lot that qualified people are having such a hard time getting jobs in this country. And then people want to be mad with us the diaspora saying we not coming back
Well I hear NEP finish after June, so I hope the AID Bank will have another big release saying that they have hired all their interns. Now that would be deserving of being news, not the fact that you hire 1 intern out of how much interns after an entire year.
Labour ka twavay
Congratulations girlfriend!!!
Congrats Vernelle. This is no surprise though to anybody, always intelligent.
Congrats Mrs Sylvester. is hard working persons like you we need in Dominica rather than those people who just want to stand at the red clinic to meet their pm for hand outs and eat up all Venezuela money.
thank you mrs Sylvester for setting an example as to what can be achieved through hard work
People as you and your comments turn off some of us with disgust. How do the rest of your comment fit in this article? How educated are you?
Those who are intelligent and broadminded know that education commences from youth. if they did not have the necessary education nor the opportunity, how do you expect them to be educated and trained?
Are you not aware that there are occasions some people are in the right place, at the right time and were fortunate to further educate themselves? Some received preferential treatment.
This is why when some people excel, they should thank their lucky stars, most of all thank God for having achieved higher education as also to obtain a good paying job and be at least well-to-do.
Those who possess a loving, compassionate heart are fully aware of that and will also say, “There but for the grace of God go I”, lest all be taken from them and under them. God detests those who lack humility, are ungrateful and depend solely on themselves.
1 Person out of a good 16 got hired and it made the news…
if they had gotten 1 1/2 they would close for the week?
You know the saying, “May the lucky person win.” Nevertheless, let us wish her all the best and hope during her tenure she will assist others and mentor them to aspire to as much.
Thank God for Skerrit
Alas Dominica….
So Aid Bank hire one person out of the twelve people working for them under the NEP program and they make a big show about it. Well that is publicity papa. NBD hired all their interns since before January 2015 and never made a big show. Other Companies have hired interns and no show was made so what is the AID Bank really trying to prove??????
Congrates miss sylvester just do ur job well.
.
Luv yA sis! Happy for you
Congrats young lady. Highly qualified in a very marketable area. I see that your reach may extend even beyond Dominica, more kudos to you my dear.
I can only pray that you and your reputation do not get torn apart on this medium for the simple reason of being associated with the NEP. I have had some questions myself about the programme but stories like this one are indeed refreshing.
Go break some glass ceilings my dear!
Congrats Vernelle.Good to see that you stayed with the field of computer Science. I remember our agonizing days of algorithms at Clifton Dupiney Community College. You always enjoyed those challenges that otherwise tortured me lol. All the best my dear.
Congrats. Go for the stars madam.
Congrats mrs sylvester
Congratulations; I love to see qualified people excel. keep striving for the maximum. God bless you moving forward.
