Speaker of the House, Alix Boyd-Knights, has come out swinging against her critics whom she said know nothing about her and have assumed ownership of her life.
“Unfortunately in Dominica people who never knew me as a child, never knew me growing up, never got to know me until I came back to Dominica in 1990 has assumed ownership of my life, have assumed ownership of what they think I ought to to have done and what I ought not to have done,” she said on parliament on Thursday.
Boyd-Knights was a government nominee for president of Dominica, which she initially accepted.
However the nomination was greeted by severe criticism by many and earlier this week prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced that she was withdrawing the nomination through fear for the safety of her family.
Some detractors had brushed aside Skerrit’s announcement suggesting that Boyd-Knights’ family was never in danger.
However, she stated that “it is a disgraceful state of affair” when it was said that she should not be fearful for her family’s safety.
“I take high umbrage,” she stated pointing to incidents where a white powder, in an envelope, was sent to her office and her car was stoned in Trafalgar.
“So it is not a figment of my imagination for me to be fearful for my family, given the fact these people have gone around inciting violence, inciting people, making stories against me…” she said.
Boyd-Knights said she is now forced to believe in reincarnation since many of the things she is being accused of by critics did not happen in her life. “I am forced now to believe in reincarnation,” she said.
She also stated that she has been a victim of character assassination by “a new species of carnivores …who sit at their console …they kill your character, they cut it up in little pieces and they feed it to whoever will listen.”
“That is a new form of cannibalism, they assassinate the character and feed it to to the listening public,” the speaker said.
The British took all they could take from Dominica. The queen not coming to Dominica and she not sending no representatives; so why do we need a head of state? to do what? to live in de big house and fleece the tax payers more than they are being fleeced? All these “head of state” do, id render their opinion on matters. The same thing I do every day.
If only we would all come togather and pray about that matter God will put the right person in mind , to all God’s people in Dominica fast and pray like i am doing for Dominica my land to be successful in Jesus name he will see us through

A CEREMONIAL President must be of sound judgement and good moral character. He or she must be partial to either side, and must not wear a colour so loud that it grieves the population. He or she must be willing to call a spade a spade, give Jack his jacket, and honour Jacqueline her undergarments-Mrs. Boyd Knight has not learned decorum and she takes everything to the gutter.
You see, there are several types of presidents but the one you most fit is dictatorial. Dominica is not ready for that-another Julius Caesar-yes I did literature, Idi Aminn nor Mobutu Seko.

To be able to work with people, one must be able to balance…bring peace and work to unify others. Schools teach conflict resolution but many of these men -and women who offer themselves up did not do that subject. They must go back to that course. Some are arrogant and have not learned to smile at those with whom they are not friends. A leader for a small country must smile at everyone: children, elderly, homosexuals, StockFarm tenants (prison) and the “boys on the block”. If leaders do not already have that in their unwritten CV, then alas…they are only pretenders. If leaders have not learned that though they disagree with someone on a matter that does not make them an enemy. May we get some qualified school teachers into the house as advisers?
Madame Speaker please understand that the citizenry of Dominica do have a right to voice their opinions on matters that concern them. If your family was ever threatened with any form of violence, then that’s a serious issue that law enforcement officials need to address immediately.
However, you must also understand that perception often defines one’s reality.
If you have been portrayed differently by Dominicans, that’s your fault entirely. Those who serve the public are responsible for protecting their own image at all times.
I was pleased when a woman was nominated for the post of President in Dominica. We all know how tough it is today for qualified women to break the “Glass Ceiling.”
However, you are not that woman. I have listened to the high level of “Foolishness and rubbish” that goes on in the House of Assembly, and I must tell you that it is disturbing. We would have been the laughing stock of Dominica and the wider Caribbean if you had secured this post.
Your short fuse and dictatorial style do not work in Dominica anymore. People are emancipated and liberated from this ancient style.

The campaign for Office in this country is not to WIN on your merit, but to ensure that the flaws of your opponent are so well exposed that they shall LOSE.

Look in the mirror; you have a terrible attitude; you were not fit to be in this position. I didn’t hear any comments made about the upbringing or character of the woman we have known since 1990. All the comments have been made about her behaviors since coming back to Dominica and since being speaker of the house! So she needs to self-examine. I know it’s hard for someone with such an inflated sense of self to do so, but that is what she needs to do. I haven’t seen or heard any outcry against the new nominee. Why? Have all the opposition supporters stopped reading DNO? No. People were simply against ABK.
at the end of the day, this lady and all these politicians are all human beings. No wonder the country is sinking. Everyone keeps bashing at each other rather than trying to build together. But thinks going to someone else country will work. Since they will keep their mouths shut,and kiss whoever behind it may take. Recently I had a conversation with an intelligent (in my view a least) and very nationalistic Dominican living in Houston, Texas and here is what he said; “Politics is local but God forbid Ma Dominique if among all her citizens (70 thousand at least) both at home and abroad there is NOT one who can run the country as PM besides the mad man (RS) and the crazy lady (ABK) as president. Those who are suggesting this nonsense about if not RS or ABK then who are insulting Ma Dominique and her children to highest degree and should be tried for treason”.
This was a very profound statement that resonated with me and should be thought of by all Dominicans.We have too many “qualified”, honest and caring people in our mix for someone to even make such an ignorant, bias and insulting statement. As I monitor the behavior of RS and MBK over the presidential debacle, I cant help but reflect on the words of this unassuming “Dominican to the bone” gentleman who has no ax to grind. Just maybe we all should take a page from his book and and think of country 1st instead of colors (red, blue, green or otherwise). The more I ponder on his statement the more convinced I become that RS and MBK needs to go. ABK’ recent ranting and raving and RS’ defense of her has strengthened my belief in that “Change Must Come” very very soon or else we are doomed.

It was national day parade at Windsor Park. The Police were marching past a crowd of spectators. All but one of the officers was marching LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT!! This one Policeman was marching RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT.
His mother, who was a spectator in the crowd, looked at the marching police squad and turned to a lady standing next to her and said:
“I don’t know when these policemen will learn to march correctly. They are all out of step!! My son is the only one marching correctly!!”
With these comments from the Speaker, she reminds me of this lady.

Moreover, if you harbor such misdirected grudges how would you have been able to show balanced Judgment in a role of President? When I heard your response to the political jab that you had been “discarded” I swore that your response was coming from a different person than the one who was recorded on a political platform say: “kick the damn blues out…and action and words of UWP are as far apart as Helen’s legs (paraphrasing)”. These statements and decision made by you during your term as speaker are the core reasons that you were found unfit, by many, for the position that you so badly craved. I agree with her. There is always a humane way of handling situations. It is OK to not agree with the nomination and put pressure to withdraw, however, attacks on anyone’s character is unfortunate.

She said that in parliament. That had no business being said in the parliament. No one knows who were the perpetrators of this. I’ve listened to Madame Speaker on many occasions and I know that the Government side are always following the rules of the house of parliament, yet they are always picked on by Madam Speaker. Do you think and Opposition Member could talk about ‘I go to school in the Jungle etc.. and no one is going to take my place’ in the house without this lady objecting? It’s a one way street in this house of parliament, the Government way or no way at all; and that’s the truth.
