Austrie is MP for the Cottage Constituency

Housing Minister, Reginald Austrie is to undergo surgery in Guadeloupe, Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has revealed.

The Prime Minister told state-owned DBS Radio that Austrie fell ill before the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.

He said Austrie is awaiting the green light for surgery to be performed.

“He is in good spirits,” Skerrit said. “We are in regular contact with Honorable Austrie. He continues to be in our prayers. Obviously, you know, because of his personality, in his capacity he is missed especially during this time because certainly people would have been hearing his voice and seeing him very active.”

He asked all Dominicans to say a prayer for Austrie for a speedy recovery.

“We have no doubt his surgery will go successfully,” the Prime Minister stated.

Known for his fiery and sometimes controversial remarks, Austrie is the member of parliament for the Cottage Constituency.

“Ridicule me if you like, but I truly believe that The Almighty wants us to change our ways. Too much unchristian behaviour.”(Believer).

You know if I was un-academically educated, I would share the view that God is teaching us something by sending a storm to kill people in order to teach us something!

That is a nonsensical bit of religious garbage, the white Europeans used against our forefathers as slaves to keep them in subjection, while they beat their epidermis of the tissue of their body. I believe all of that rubbish when I was a kid. However, their is education, and science beyond religion!

I am educated to the science of the weather: I know how storms are developed, and why? I believe in God whole heartedly, and I know that the Bible is the guide that God wants us to follow, and not the crap philosophy that the nonsense that those call priests, and preachers and so called bishops preach.

Tell me; how God Almighty who said in his words “I will visit you in times of storms” in other words in times of atrocities as we suffered in Dominica recently: Armed with that knowledge, should I agree that he sends these storms so that he can come visit us?

For your education, and development of your mind. I can write a book on the weather phenomena regarding:

      Cyclones And Anticyclones
      Local Circulations
      Tropical Secondary Circulations
      Easterly Waves
      Tropical Cyclones
      Tropical Monsoons

Dealing with all of that will be a waste of time, because it is set in your minds that God, want’s us to, and that is why he destroyed Dominica: Nonsense! If you fail to believe everything, else believe this: Although every hurricane appears to be a potential disasters, these powerful storms are vital to the earth energy balance. They are a means of transporting energy from areas of excess to areas of deficiency.

If there were fewer hurricanes each year, those that occurred would have to be even larger, and more violent to perform their vital function of carrying energy poleward. And that is the full purpose of a hurricane, and God allows that, humans get caught in it so, be it but is not a matter that God wish go talking nonsense about he want us to change: he deals with repentance in his word!

Is it because the female basher is a blue toloolou.. Stop the prejudice and let the radio station be what it used to be.. free from politics. SMH.

I wish Reggi a speedy recovery, I’m praying for him. We attended College in Guyana together, but I was not in the jungle learning to fight like he was. I’ve told him to stop talking nonsense for a grown man, and stop all the anger. Life is too short. We are friends still and when I visit I tell him straight up. I’ve warned him about blood pressure fatalities for folks who practice unnecessary stressing., for party politics at that. Talk with him like a big sister, like I did in Guyana. I hope he’ll be home when I visit again soon. I will surely visit him, spend some time, pray with him. We are polar opposites in the Dominican political philosophy, and I will again stress not mocking people when they are sick. My father went through that and it was painful for me to experience as a child, seeing ppl rejoicing at my dads illness. Hopefully, my friend will grow up. He must. Let’s all wish him well. Time and “going thru” and experience is a heck of a teacher. Best wishes, Reggie…

Why the pink background? Is there a literacy issue with DLP support? Will admin explain why pro DLP responses are highlighted in pink? Does the DLP now control this publication? Am I stating the obvious?

ADMIN: The site automatically assigns the “hote debate” tag (the pink background) by comparing the number of likes to dislikes. Once the difference is above a certain threshold it receives the “hote debate” tag based on dislikes received and the “well-liked” tag based on the likes received.

I wish Hon Austrie good health and a speedy recovery!

But the bigger question here is…What happens to the old chap who cannot afford to go to Guadeloupe to receive adequate medial care? I guess he will die in the sub-par hospital which has been provided for the Dominican people.

A MAJOR responsibility of any government is to provide a proper health care service with tax payers money. If ministers of government themselves know that PMH is incapable of providing them with proper health care…why don’t they fix the problem?? This was a PRE ERIKA situation …which should have been fixed long before so many of our loved ones lost their lives to constant misdiagnoses, inadequate equipment, incompetent staff and an bed bug infested hospital…

And BTW I live in Dominica! Which is why it makes me so angry! I fear the day I get sick! I may die far too early because of PMH’s inadequacies…

If you are aware that our medical professionals are incompetent, why risks the lives of the poor who more than half the time walks into our so called medical institutions alive, and within days they, comes out feet first dead! No one can deny that one of my nieces suffered that fate lasts year!

Most of the doctors are incompetent, the system lacks medication, we donot have an MIR machine, we like the most important medical instrument used in diagnosing patients, we have the worst medical system on the planet! Doctors in Dominica has recently diagnose a man, claiming has cancer.

Some advised they to come to the U. Have Dominicans learnt nothing from the destruction of Erika?

    • Francisco Telemaque
      September 28, 2015

The question should be; “has Austrie, Skerrit, and the rest of his cabal learnt anything from Erika?”

Some people pretend to be humble when something such as illness or anything catastrophic occurs, however, when the dust settles, they return to their old vicious ways. If Austrie survives, by the time he opens his mouth in the streets or, in parliament, you will judge for yourself if the comments you consider un-called-for might not be justified.

The question You Francisco Telemaque, and everyone of us Dominicans must ask is, ‘ “What Is God trying to teach me through the raging waters and falling rocks of TS Erica?” Not what others have learnt. God is trying to get our attention and we are ignoring his call.
Like you said “………when the dust settles, they return to their old vicious ways.”, but sir, the dust have not even settled and we are already busy back biting, pointing fingers, criticizing, and fighting with each other.
the signs of the times are right infront of us, the warnings from God right here and we fail to see and hear because we are preoccupied trying to remove a speck in someone elses eye. Everyone has to give an account to God for his own doings.

we should all hope he gets well just as we would like for ourselves or family but I have a few questions about the health care system in Dominica .For so many years i read and hear of so many people going to Cuba for medical studies then return as trained doctors but people keep going overseas for treatment .the question is .WHY? Charles Savarine had to be treated in matinique so was Julius, Skerritt son was born in the U SA so what happens to those of us who cannot pay to travel for treatment outside of the country? I am no teenager and do remember the days of Desmond M DR Watty , Shillingford William Green and Griffin. DCANs home use every opportunity to bash cuban graduates. There are many People who graduated from cuba doing excellent work abroad. The cuban graduate bashing is uncalled for and unmerited. Most of the consultants in DCA are not cuban grads..so when people die under their care what kills them? The doctors home are faced with very little resources, overwhelming hours of work and very little pay. The issue of resources both in equipment and human is a real problem. Is the average DCAN willing to pay for the type of stellar care they wish to have..or do they continue to ask for free health care while complaining about freeness can provide? A doctor can only do so much with what they have! I went to the US to do a scan that is not available in dca, the scan and doctor’s visit cost me EC 20, 000, not to mention the plane ticket, and i m still getting bills. if the government provides such facilities in dca will dominicans pay to acquire and maintain them? “We are in regular contact with Honorable Austrie”

Aben weh Mr. Skare-it, only today you telling the nation about Mr. Austrie? Mr. skero, you really sound like a man with a troubled heart, maybe scared of something. This news today September 28, approximately one month and three days since Erika destroyed Dominica is just a distraction so the public would have something else to talk about.

Sir, I did psychology in college and I was told that one of the symptoms of a deeply troubled and disturbed mind is, they always resurrect events that they kept as secret and try to generate a conversation to avoid dealing with the present.

Could this be what you are doing today sir? I do want to inform you that your good old boy, Mr. Lapsing, has conveyed his love to you and tells you to expect his call because he is now in the USA.

    FEAR NOT SIR!!!

You do psychology for your self. Take it and push it where the sun don’t shine. Keep up the good work Mr. Prime Minister!!!

You sound disburbed. If you did psychology, you not even speak about this, you counsel not critisise for political gain . You need an evaluation. Whats wrong with you people. Learn from Storm Erika, see how we were all separated from each not even get cell or land land calls through, it took a while to get through. Go to God in praper and behave all you self.

Boy something wrong with all you. Repent. You have not learnt noting from the past happennings. Stop it all the politics. So symphathetic.

      • September 29, 2015

Tell Tony Astaphan and the rest of the comrades on the animal show to stop their politics and verbal diarrhea also, don’t you know that without politics some of us would be slaves under skerrit, the whole world is built on politics. Did Austrie showed any sympathy to Mr Frampton, give me a break with your repent, we should be always show love, peace and harmony at all times, not only in times of disaster, sickness and sorry, for God is no fool

You see what happens when the priorities of our leaders are in the wrong place?

Supposedly Dominica was to get a “state of the art” hospital under some ‘five-point’ master plan with the Chinese.

Instead of building the hospital first for the benefit of the people, the government went ahead and built a state house for one man, which has been reportedly sucking $50,000 a month electricity bill.

The government said that building would be a tourism magnet, earning money for the state. How much money has it earned for us?

Meanwhile, poor people like me have to settle down for PMH, infested by pou poule and other pests and poorly trained doctors who cannot even diagnose appendicitis.

Get well Austrie, and please think long and hard of 95 percent of Dominicans who cannot run to Guadeloupe for medical treatment and lobby the government to get that hospital, which the government has been speaking about for five years now, off the ground.

      September 28, 2015

But you don’t live in Dominica so how are you left to deal with PMH?

      • Dorival John
        September 28, 2015

No my friend “peace”. I actually live in Goodwill in the shadow of the PMH, which I consider the most feared government institution on the island. Most people I know who went to PMH came back out foot first, heading for the morgue.

Dorival, didn’t you hear the P.M. say that groundbreaking for the new hospital would take place on 1 July gone? Well, P.M. always speaks the truth and it is 28 Sept. now so that groundbreaking must have taken place. Maybe, we of little faith, did not observe that groundbreaking and mistook it for windbreaking?

“Known for his fiery and sometimes controversial remarks”…DNO I think that piece could have been left out and that line could have just read “Austrie is the MP for the Cottage Constituency” and leave it at that. There’s a time and place for everything.

Reggie would be laughing at you. he gives as good as he gets and is not fazed by insult . I’m not particularly impressed by his manners or crude behaviour but Reggie would not want to seen as a a whimp or a pussycat. He takes on all comers, including his own party hacks and cabinet colleagues.

        September 28, 2015

I totally agree with you..he would probably be laughing right now…at the same time I still believe there’s a time and place for everything. DNO have a habit of posting a seemingly positive article and at the end put a one liner totally flipping the positivity of the article.

    • September 28, 2015

If it were unflattering I would agree, but it’s not insulting to note correctly that a public figure has a passionate approach to issues. Anyway, best wishes for a full recovery.

You stupid or retarded? Which one?? What ‘bound to come out’ you talking about? Sickness is sickness. No secrecy about it. If it were critical I’m sure the nation would have been informed earlier. Priority was obviously given to the current state of affairs in Dominica right now Re Erika.
