As a tribute to the late Calypsonian, Michael “Boople” Lafleur, the Dominica Calypso Association will host a memorial event in his honour on Friday, July 29, at the Harlem Plaza.

The event is expected to honor his years of dedicated service to the Calypso art form in Dominica.

Boople who was famous for his popular calypsos “Air Dominica,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Kranana,” “Three Witches in London” and ‘Cheap Cars” passed away on Thursday 14, July 2016 at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

“The Calypso Association is putting together this event which would be a tribute to Boople,” Secretary of the Dominica Calypso Association, Daryl Bobb told Dominica News Online on Thursday. “It is sort of a two in one; it’s one to recognize his contribution to calypso.”

He continued, “Boople has made people happy, made people laugh, so it’s just an opportunity before his burial that we recognize him in a very nice and happy environment where his music will be played and the public will be invited.”

During the event, Bobb said the public will have the freedom to grab a mic and sing some of Boople’s songs if they wish to.

The public is being asked to make a contribution from $5 at the event.

“The proceeds of tomorrow night’s event will go to the family who is responsible for taking care of his burial as far as the expenses are concerned,” Bobb stated.

He encourages the public to turn out in large numbers to support the event, “because it is worth giving Boople a very good send off.”

The event will begin at 8:00 pm.

The funeral for Boople is expected to take place on August 3 from 3:00 pm at the Our Lady of Fatima Church in Newtown. He will be laid to rest at the Roseau Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Today is Thursday, July 28th. This is a kind gesture for one who was very well known and for his popular calypsos.
Once again, my heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends, fans and others who knew him. It is also a great loss for the D/can calypso clan.
May his soul rest in peace. Amen!
Michael “Boople” Lafleur, pleased to know that you remained a Christian Catholic, received Its Last Rites and will receive a Catholic service/burial. It is a bonus (I love to say) for you to eternity.
I made note of your name. In November, when we Catholics especially remember the Holy Souls in Purgatory, saved but must first be cleansed of their frailties prior to ascending to Heaven, to see the Holy and Pure Face of God, I will place your name in the Book of Life, near the Altar where the Priest celebrates Holy Mass daily in remembrance of Our Lord’s Life, Passion, Crucifixion and Death – Luke 22:19-20 – The Last Supper.
Michael (Boople) Lafleur, Godspeed to Heaven!!!
