Dominica-born Dale Dangleben, MD, FACS has been making quite a name for himself in the field of surgery in the United States.
He has so far published two books which have received critical reviews.
Dr. Dangleben was born and raised in Pointe Michel where he attended the St. Luke’s Primary SchooI.
He then went on to the St Mary’s Academy and then Sixth Form College ( SIFOCOL). After a few years of teaching at SMA he migrated to the U.S and attended Hunter College in NYC where he got his Bacheor’s of Science degree in Chemistry.
Subsequently, he went on to medical school at Penn State University College of Medicine . Currently, Dr Dangleben is double boarded in General and Trauma Surgery.
His passion has been medical education and he has created several mobile apps and now published two books on surgery.
His first book, ABSITE Slayer is published by McGraw Hill.
ABSITE Slayer is a rigorous, high-yield review that focuses specifically on the American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination ( ABSITE ). It is designed to reduce pre-test anxiety and help surgeon in training, achieve the highest score possible.
This powerful study aid provides a complete framework for exam preparation and is also the most efficient last-minute review available. The book consist of full Q&A with color illustrations to “make or break” tips–from expert authors who know exactly what it takes to excel.
The review has more than 300 multiple-choice questions and more than 1,000 quick-hit single answer questions. Each chapter has test-taking tips that may spell the difference between success and failure on the exam
The second book, Options in the Management of the Open Abdomen, was recently published by Springer publishing.
This book by Madbak and Dangleben has collated lot of information that has been presented and published in many disparate arenas into a single easy to read source.
In an area where there is more experience and “favorite techniques” than true evidence based answers, they provide a wealth of information along with outstanding photographic support that makes this an excellent resource for all surgeons caring for this population.
Similar to many things in life, when treating patients with the open abdomen one size or methodology does not fit all and this book will assuredly contain at least one possible answer to your patient’s problem.
One of the more unique aspects of this textbook is its detailed “How to” approach for the wide variety of techniques utilized in the management of the open abdomen. While there may be no consensus as to what constitutes the optimal management of the open abdomen, this book articulates a number of options and their advantages. Most importantly, it provides high quality photographs that enhance the step by step “How to” approach of the text.
More recent developments including using biologic mesh, implementing complex abdominal wall reconstruction and utilizing minimally invasive endoscopic techniques are described. This book is not only appropriate for all practicing surgeons that deal with this complex issue, but is also relevant for residents and fellows who are just getting their first exposure to open abdomens.

I don’t know you, but well done son. Never forget to give Him the Glory for the great things He has done in your life.
We apologize for subbing Will Smith’s photo in place of Dr. Dangleben.
A little humour for the soul.
Well done my former teacher.
FYI…for those of u critics..Doctor Dangleben Do come back to Dominica..he came back just last year an td me me had a ball of a time..so..stop saying that..
The people with brains leave this place and don’t come back except for an occasional visit.
The Brain Drain comments shows ignorance about emigration. One can reference India or China, where the problem also exist. The argument should be kept within the framework of opportunity or lack there off. Emigrants contribute in a significant manner to Dominica’s GDP.
Congratulations Dr. Dangleben! And more power to all Dominicans who achieve every day. Unity!!
Im very very proud of u Dr Dangleben…..
We, as a black people have intelligence in our DNA. We just have to be equipped with the knowledge of what we were born to achieve and we can take on the world. We have to be in the right environment, surrounded by the right people and have the support that will cause us to excel in life. Remember that our great ancestors built the pyramids in Egypt, which are aligned with the universe and were the first mathematicians, engineers, astronomers, astrologers, scientists, chemists, you name it. The first doctor was called Imhotep, an African, and civilisation first started in Africa. We are a great people and need to know that. It is just ignorant sometimes when we are knowledgeable that we tend to look down, or dispise those who are not as priviledged as we are. But even the less privileged have wisdom and we can learn from them. My grandmother did not have a formal education but she was a very wise woman.
Congratulations to you, my brother, for making us proud in the nature island. There are many more who will follow in your footsteps. I know the people in Point Mitchel are elated and proud of you. Now you are passing on your knowledge to others. How great!
ONE LOVE

Standing O…….i always had faith in u, im proud of u…!!!
Well its strange how Dominicans abroad can achieve great things. I just hope we can do the same here and make use of the brains we have here and not think of a political agenda each time.
Real cool vibes !!! Small ordinary people doing big wonderful things.
He is no longer ordinary lol
Congratulations Dale. Ever so proud of you!
Yea and he aint going back and Dominica sure wont make a cent of him. Thats all Dominica is good for ‘brain drain’.
Hello and good morning my people. First I must congratulate Dr Dangleben for his accomplishment. Now for the people that gave Adele a Thumbs Down can you dispute what Adele said. I do take comfort in the last sentence of the article and I hope that if our Government build a new hospital Dr Dangleben would be a good candidate to head the Trauma Unit. America us a brain drain on our country and we must see it for what us is.
Sorry for the typos. The last sentence should read. America is a brain drain on our Country and we must see it for what it is.
