The Dominica Christian Council observes the passing of the Reverend Dr Philip Alford Potter, an outstanding Dominican Methodist Minister, who died in Germany on March 30, 2015.

We share in celebrating Philip’s accomplishments which include his appointment as General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) at its 3rd General Assembly in 1972, a position he held until 1984.

We acknowledge Philip’s significant contribution in promoting World Ecumenism and Church Unity, Racial Equality, Justice and World Peace.

We extend condolences to Philip’s widow Barbel, his immediate family here in Dominica and abroad as well as to his extended Methodist Church family in Dominica, the Caribbean and the Americas.

We pray that his soul may rest in peace.

I best remember him for his strong stance against apartheid. Among all his other outstanding accomplishments, this to me was the most important.
Rest in perfect peace, Rev. Potter.

What a man. Enfant Vio(let) of Upper Lane/Cock Street,Roseau. What stature. What a great supporter of Black Power in Africa and elsewhere. .What granite integrity ,scholarship and committment to true Christian values. Like Edward Leblanc before him ,he is a true national hero. May he find eternal life!
