Former President of the Dominica Bar Association and former Solicitor General of Dominica, Wynante Adrien-Roberts, has been appointed as the new Deputy Attorney General of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The announcement was made during the opening of the Supreme Court in that country last week.

Attorney General, Rhondalee Braithwaite-Knowles, described Adrien-Roberts as a “thoroughly qualified and experienced” attorney.

Reports indicate that the new assistant AG will focus on training and development within the Chambers of the AG.

Adrien-Roberts earned her Legal Education Certificate in Law at the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, and has attended the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus where she earned her LLB and LLM.

She was part of the International Business Unit of the Government of Dominica and served as Solicitor General.

She has experience in many fields including: developing legislative regulatory framework for the financial services sector, assessing applications for licences to operate offshore financial services, and ensuring compliance with international best practices for the financial services sector.

Last year, Adrien-Roberts made headlines when she stood by the decision of the Dominica Bar Association to nominate Henry “Babs” Dyer to the Integrity in Public Office (IPO) Commission.

The decision was heavily criticized by Senior Counsel, Tony Astaphan.

It is very difficult for educated people to succeed here…very difficult. There are just too many people working hard to keep down strong, educated and smart women. In business, if one is not properly promoted by owners living outside the country, then you have to either migrate or stagnate here. There are many examples of brilliant women in businesses and banks stagnating in unfulfilling positions because they do not want to leave Dominica.

Thanks to free movement of people in the OECS, you could get this job. Best wishes.

congratulations Mrs. Roberts, & one day soon Dominica will be free from this ISIS type of Govt.

Great move Deputy AG. I am very happy for you and the family. Dominica right now is a hindrance to progressive minded people because Dominicans do not want better and therefore do not deserve better than what they got! Indeed, a people get the government that they deserve. See you in the Turks and Caicos.

Another Jeanne La Pwente (Pointe Mitchel) making it big. Another school mate of mines together with Bertillia McKenzie doing it big for themselves, their family, their community and country. Go for it girls. The sky’s the limit.

Congratulations are in order! It is very disheartening when Dominica can’t see the potential in its own human resources in that the professional have to seek career advancement elsewhere in promoting those countries while we regress in Dominica.

This is an area that is in dire straits and should be addressed by everyone as it has a lasting negative impact on the country’s development. In retrospect, perhaps she would have made a much more effective AG in DA – for God knows that we need one..

I tell you to get ahead, you must leave Dominica. We NEVER recognize the skills and talents of our own people.

She should make some money and return for 2019 I will join her that will be two sure sits for an intransigent new party. Then we are looking to St.Joe with another lawyer who too is intransigent. G/bay with our former UN rep we are already @4 and growing. DA look out for an intransigent team not the solid team like ConEdison gave us 9-2000 or what Starlight/LL current has and presented.

Intransigent are you sure that is what you want to promote? Intransigent = refusing to change one’s view or behaviour (Oxford dictionary)

Has Medard et Al began their destructive process? Eliminating anyone who oppose em in legal matters?
Adrien ought to have ( like many othes should have) expressed their objection to a dishonest administration beginning with the Land Transfer. But our Lawyers just sat by and said nor did any thing. I guess with ur president of the country being quiet( a former Chair at UWI law Dept) then they were waiting on him so he said nada niet rien they too said rein. It is laughable he is rewarded in many ways for his silence even having a Low Way named after him. Are we a serious country or an island with 70k hypocrits. awaiting critics to the truth not the truth who blogs LMAO

Maybe she saw her career path blocked in Dominica after that run-in with Tony Astaphan?

Or maybe trying to run a private law firm in Dominica wasn’t as financially rewarding as she thought… :-?

You ever looked at it that way?

    • January 14, 2015

I believe so too so I’m asking Dominicans is that what you want that all the good and educated folks leaving to build up other Islands instead of home, it’s time that we get the Tony Astaphan and others packing and gone… Any way I congratulate Ms. Roberts on her new appointment

You still want time when less than 6 weeks had the time on hands! I think we should stop talking and take what we get because we deserve it
