Dominican doctor takes up new position in US

Dr. McClean Romain

Dominican doctor McLean Romain has taken up a position at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in southern Kentucky.

Dr. Romain is from humble beginnings. He grew up in the tiny community of Morne-a-Louis, near Tan Tan on the northern part of the island.

He was a mathematics and science teacher at the Portsmouth Secondary School before he decided to go into the medical field.

He is a Summa cum Laude graduate of the University of the Southern Caribbean and he earned his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth.

He recently completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Romain said he looks forward to taking care of patients at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He is the son of Angel Seaman and Mathew Romain (deceased).

I do congratulate him and wish him well. However, I wonder why did he not remain in Dominica, considering that Dominica is in need of good doctors. I hope that he pursues his career to a higher level and someday he could return to help Dominica. Dominica presently needs specialized doctors and will need them in the future.
I understood that Dominica does not have a resident pathologist and that when people die they have to wait a few weeks for one to travel to Dominica to perform the autopsy. This wait is no doubt costly to their family.
The government could counsel those men who are studying medicine and those who are medical doctors to further their studies in this area.
The authorities are concerned about tourism and as others are concerned about an international airport. The health of nationals are more important including obtaining a resident pathologist.

DNO, please could you revise some of these comments before they’re posted? I can’t believe that some of our people are so ignorant, small minded, pathetic and lack any common sense .You would think that our people would be proud of a young man for his achievements . I know Mcclean worked hard to be where he is. I remember him as a very focused, driven and dedicated young man at my former high school.I tip my hat off to you.Congratulations to you and much success. You have made your family ,parents , friends ,community and former teachers proud .Well done and continue your hard work. forget the naysayers. Tiny you are an you have the right name. You are truly tiny . where are your achievements? your brain must be very tiny. stick to your name tiny.

ADMIN: You want us to revise other people’s comments, yet you are using inappropriate language in yours which we had to edit out? So how different are you from the other posters who you claim to be ignorant, small minded, pathetic and lack common sense?

Don’t get me wrong, congratulations to the young man and thumbs up for giving Dominica more exposure, BUT what exactly is the “post” he got. There are many other dominican doctors out there who have “posts” and they never made it on DNO. What’s so special about his?
Please don’t take it the wrong way people, I’m not trying to be negative.

Congratulations from a Dominican living on St. Croix. I am so proud to see that. My origins are also from the North. I am so humbled when I read stories like this. I know that Possie will become the megacenter for Dominica, if we continue to educate our children and keep the place crime free. Together we can, All the best!

The Victor family is so proud of you. We remember the struggling days. We also recall your determination and drive. Enjoy the fruits of your labour. You have made your mum, sibblings and deceased dad proud. By extension, you’ve also made the North proud. Remember your origins, if only to keep you focused. Even more so, remember your bro Marcus. I’m equally proud of him for his role in your achievements. I say let the sky be your limit my couz… you can be Dominica’s Ben Carson.

Congratulations Dominican. I don’t know you in person, but may Father God continue to excel you. Hard work certainly pays off.
DNO, I applaud you for equally giving attention to the good and the bad, even if some don’t appreciate the “good”. This is in sharp contrast to what was being reported in the recent past- it was incessantly bad news so this is quite refreshing. Congratulations to you again DR. Romain.

    Keep them coming DNO!

A vast majority of Educated Dominicans are living abroad. I’m happy to see that they are all doing so well. If they had to return to Dominica opportunities such as these would rarely present themselves.

        September 29, 2012

        @ anonymous!!

You are correct. Sadly, throughout the years Dominica has had a brain drain. Some of us did not have leave and would have been better off in our island except the opportunity was there and we embraced the opportunity.
The way the world is at present, I hope that the younger ones today will decide to remain in DA and build it up. Furthermore, DA now has college and university. There is no need for them to leave. There is no place like home.

As I scrolled down I was about to say that I was rather surprise to see only congratulations.. until i read further. There is always a reason for someone to try to rain on someone else’s parade. A simple congratulations would suffice or don’t say anything at all. I think DNO should actively see out Dominicans accomplishments and post as much as they possibly can.

Congrats Doc!! We celebrate with you.

      @ Citizen K

Some of us are not really negative. They do wish him well. We are fully aware that Dominica is in dire need of doctors, dedicated ones with their expertise. This is the reason why there may be what you assume are negative comments but they are not really negative but realistic ones including mine.

I called Marcus on your behalf as well, because I know he too played a pivotal role in ensuring the transition at Ross was a smooth one.

I trust that you will be an inspiration to the younger generation. Giod knows they need more good role models besides rappers and ball players.

Folks seem to always want to read depressing news and gossip, but when it comes to the accomplishments of one of our own, we say its not news worthy. Small minds, genrate simple comments.

We do not know each other. I must be fair. You call Tiny names. Recently I got a lot of flack in a worst way for standing up for my Catholic faith from those who do not know anything about it and/or those who renounced this faith. It was shocking to me that there were so many Dminican Catholic haters and bashers worldwide as they projected on this Website.
Tiny’s comment is not half or even a quarter as bad than those who spoke ill of the Mother of their God, King, Savior and Just Judge. They lack godly mortal and spiritual enlightenment. God heard them and took note. They will not escape His just recompense. I deduce that some of his comments, if not all of them are made in jest. We must be broadminded to know this.
