After an exhaustive month of battling with the sad news of the passing of Dominican-born, Emanuela Marsha Stephen, 26 of Tarish Pit, her family has said she will be laid to rest on Friday 22nd May.

Stephen, who was pursuing medical studies in Cuba, passed away suddenly on April 19.

A close family member told Dominica News Online (DNO) on Wednesday that the funeral service will take place at the St Alphonsus Catholic Church in Goodwill from 3:30pm and she will be laid to rest at the Catholic Cemetery in Roseau.

Stephen’s body was transported to Dominica from Cuba on May 17 through the Douglas-Charles Airport.

She was described as a very quiet, kind and loving young lady.

She had been studying medicine since 2009 and was expected to complete in 2016.

This is such a sad moment especially for the family. It’s a pity that she did not complete what she was destined to be. In any case the family will never forget the kind of person she was and that her spirit will continue to live on in their hearts.
My condolences to the entire family.

    PEACE

Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.

We are all curious to know what caused her sudden passing.
I visualize how difficult it is for especially her family.
My condolence again to her family, friends and others who knew her.
Take heart, God is consoling you.
Finally, she will be laid to rest in her home country.
May her soul rest in peace. Amen!

    We remember Emanuela:

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she’s left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she’s gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she’d want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

May God comfort all those bereaved at this sad time. Is there any update on the cause of her sudden death? Are other students at risk or was this an isolated incident?

Finally her body will Rest in Peace after making a circuitous trip to England and back to Dominica, as there are no direct flights from Cuba to D/ca and few airlines carry human corpses. Worst yet, the cadaver was in such a sorry state of decomposition that her remains is probably unrecognizable.

My heart goes out to her family.

    • May 22, 2015

What!!!! I cannot believe that!!! why should her body be in a bad state of decomposition? The body was not placed in a refrigerated morgue? That is so very sad for the family. I wonder if the family had the opportunity to see the body for the last time before it got to that state, bearing in my the coffin could not be opened on its return to Dominica. Stevens family, take courage my dears, my heart go out to all of you. Such great hope, such high expectations; I can imagine how all of you were looking forward to your doctor daughter coming home soon. She really made you all proud. Be good people and strong, Jehovah never gives one more than they can bear. Just thank him for her life and the joy she brought to all of you during her lifetime. One Love
