A Dominican, serving in the St. Kitts Police Force who was shot recently in the line of duty, has died in Trinidad.

Brian Pacquette died on Monday morning, information reaching Dominica News Online indicates.

He was shot in the leg during a scuffle when he and another officer went to investigate a larceny report on June 23, 2016, in St. Kitts.

He was flown to Trinidad for medical treatment and the leg was subsequently amputated.

Pacquette’s family had appealed from blood to assist in his care but he never fully recovered.

Pacquette served in the St. Kitts Police Force for ten years before his passing.

My deepest condolences goes to the Harris family. this one hit me very hard. I followed everything on line and never knew that this is my family, which i never met, and will never again. I went to Dominica, came back to New York and decided to call Tino after three weeks, and this was the news. I asked him why he did not call me, he noted that he thought that i was still back home. I am so sorry for Ewo that her son had to die this way.
God have reasons for everything that happens, which we can’t understand. I love my cousins, i remember when Tino, Junior and Sedrick would come to Salisbury and visit in those days.
Someone have to know or see something. the force knows who was his working partner that day. someone have to be punished for this.

Brian…I will never forget you. Just as Uncle Tino said, your soul is always with us. Mommy, Zennetta, Peirson, Jamie, Titania, all your uncles, aunts, cousins and entity family do love and will miss you. I know that you are in a better place. Having a big brother like you was more than enough. When I spoke to you in Trindad, I could see that you were fighting. Thank you for putting up a good fight. You can rest in peace. I will make sure to honor you in all I do. I spoke to you of my upcoming final exam 2 weeks ago. I told you that I will get that A for you. Well, the Final is tomorrow and I will keep promise. When I woke up this morning, I prayed that I was dreaming.. I hope this was not real. It’s hard to accept this, but for now, just know that I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU BRO !!! -Your Little Sister.

  7. He had multiple injuries and his biological system broke down. He was shot in his groin.(In The know).

So you see how much you know?

I can tell you do not know much, and when people do not know what they are talking about they would be better off to remain silent.

Here is my question, do you know the difference in the words biological, and physiological, you should be ashamed to write that nonsense!

@Janet: It has nothing to do with “not being the first or only person to lose a leg”….the fact remains it was HIS leg. Not mine or yours or anybody else’s. So I find your rebuttal about “people adjust” sounded a bit insensitive.

    • Janet Harris-George
      July 20, 2016

Saul. Brian was very seriously injured. How dare you philosophize that he was mourning the loss of his leg. I know it was his leg and not mine. Do not add this type of negativity/doubt to Brian’s memory. Did you know Brian well? The Brian I knew would have invited a group to join him on a nature trail hike with his one leg. This was a young man who had to navigate and climb ‘mountains’ when people placed “gros worsh” in his “chemin”. Have you not seen the multitude of people who have lost limbs and continue to live with the support (psychological, emotional. spiritual, etc.) of family who care for them – they adjusted. Brian had enough to surmount while alive – do not attempt to enter his brain or trend of thought to say he was mourning for his leg – this statement or assumption was wrongly placed. You were/are the insensitive one.

      Someone who actually knew Brian.

    July 18, 2016

Brian was a real “Son of the soil”. He really wanted to finish college but the Banks let him down, He took it with a fine spoon of lime and went back to active duty. Wonderful personality, highly respected by his campus friends and loved by others. Impeccable character with respect for others needs and feelings. If he survived with one leg he would have never taken this as a disability but use it to inspire others; he was good at that. Unfortunately the grave complications were too much for his now feeble body and he succumbed to his injuries. I hope he is sent off with honor. Condolences to his family colleagues and friends. R.I.P Pacquette.

I met Brian while we were students at the Monroe College St Lucia Campus, he was affectionately known as Pacquette to all. Popular because he was a very inspiring young man full of energy with a love for life, his friends and most importantly God. Altruistic, high spirited, giving and caring. Brian had a heart of a lamb and a laugh that echoed with joy. If he encountered challenges, no one knew, and if something was not going as planned he embraced every disappointment as a challenge a stepping stone to ensure defeat. He was a soldier, a brother, classmate and friend. He exercised his duties as a cop not only in the force but ensuring that we were safe and if female students missed the school bus Brian made it his responsibility to get them to their public bus shelters safely asking nothing in return. To his campus crew; Nadine George whom he loved as a big sister, Cheryl Loctor, Lisa Lafond. His classmates from Nigeria; G Ben, JJ, Joseph Owa my sampathies. Adieu my dear friend Brian

    R. i P son of the soil and servant of the public. Very sad indeed. May his family find comfort knowing that God knows every thing and never give us what we cannot bear, yes instant sorry that`s expected. He is in a better place. Thanks for all those who assisted the family. Now the real questions are to be answered surrounding his Death in situation like this all sorts of stories are told and they sometimes change several before the Real Truth Comes out therfore the family would be advised to seek the truth surrounding the unfortunate situation engaging the services of a Lawyer should not be over looked in case it turned out to be the possibility of ” Friendly fire” and regardless of the circumstances surrounding our Brothers Death. He died while in the Lawful Execution of his duties, leave no stone unturned, and lets hope that win. Loose. or Draw, the Government and People of our sister island will do the Right thing. Re; Substantial Compensation to his family. we wish every one…

Hello and good afternoon my people. First I want to offer my condolence to his family and may he Rest In Peace. I find it disturbing that in this modern age of medical advance that he died of a gun shot wound to the leg which was amputated. I have seen many people who suffered gun shot/shots to the leg but they didn’t die therefore we must question the medical treatment he received. Please Rest In Peace this is from your extended Law Enforcement family.

      July 18, 2016

Being shot in the leg is not as simple as it seems, many people have died as a result of being shot in the leg, the point I’m trying to make is, if it happens to you overseas you might survive, it it happens to you in Dominica death is sure to come.

      • Me
        July 18, 2016

You retarded or dyslexic @ 3 Women in prison? Or are you just plain wicked that you just had to bring down your country? The incident occurred overseas and as an outcome, the man died. But your deformed fingers just had to type Dominica, like it’s the worst country on earth.

    • syncronize
      July 18, 2016

stop making excuses for the PMH. We do not know the circumstances of his passing. He could have had a great chance of survival and anything other than treatment could have caused his passing. PMH is a killing field. Look at how this man was flown out of St. Kitts in quick time to Trinidad. Am almost sure if the incident had happened in Dominica the administrators would not have flown him out for medical attention as quick as the action took place in S. Kitts. I recall my mother lost her leg due to diabetes and she was not physically sick next thing she turned for the worse and died. My mom never accepted the fact that her leg was amputated and died of grief.

      • Peace
        July 20, 2016

Mine too … and she was not even diabetic; but they cut her leg.

    • SMH
      July 18, 2016

He developed complications because he was not attended to quickly in St. Kitts. According to News reports he remained there four days before being flown to Trinidad. By then bacteria had made the wound toxic and the toxins spread to his liver and kidneys. Check previous stories on this site, sheer negligence on the part of the force and government for not ensuring that he got speedy assistance. A cop who put his life on the line daily should always get immediate V.I.P assistance without any questions being asked about insurance as was the problems in Brian’s case. Read the stories man and I hope someone ensures this never happens again.

        July 20, 2016

Thanks for posting the facts. You are on point. If he had gotten the proper medical attention in St. Kitts, he would have been alive. The doctors in St. Kitts concealed information from the family. They told family members while they were at the hospital in St. Kitts that they were not allowed to look at the wounds Brian sustained and not to take any pictures. Oh wow!!! Red flags. I could go on and on, but I choose not to. May his soul rest in peace.

Just say RIP to Brian and leave PMH out because IF he was at PMH he would not have lasted 24hrs.

Sadly I just lost two good friends at PMH a week apart who each had a leg amputated ( Former Officer Chris Bannis and Ma Wensley).Like it or not PMH is a hospice or place where people go to die theses days. If you doubt it, just ask all them ministers why they refuse to go there or have their baby born there.

It was a pleasure to be his classmate at the short time we had in Monroe but i do believe his family needs to keep the strength up at this hard and sad time . RIP Brian .

  24. This is sad: My sincere condolences go out to you his surviving relatives. The saying foes “who feels it knows it.” I know the feeling having experienced an identical fate.

Keep in mind that to be absent form the body is to be present with the Lord. Death is only a transition to another, better life, for people who knew, and accepted Jesus while we are alive. My hope is he was a believer in Jesus.

When someone has a surgery there can be complication
In his case the bullet could av touch an artery and damage it. The artery supply the oxygenated blood and if damage some1 can die in a blink.Again i am just speculating just to say 1 simple bullet can be detrimental to some1. He needed blood transfusion so I believed he lost alot of blood from that bullet.

I’m very sadden and tearful by the passing of Officer Pacquette. May his soul rest in peace. Condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. He will be missed enormously. The officer in question the suspect I hope is suspended from all duties whilst a thorough investigation gets on the way. The whole thing sounds a little odd to me anyway and looks to me that it was deliberate. Why have they not named the officer in question and stop covering up for him.
The public needs to know who shot him. Brian has passed away, lost his life on duty, left family and friends behind and out of respect St.Kitts cannot identify the culprit. That is outrageous.

Justice !! my prayers goe’s out to this officer mediate family who were leave to morn.
This new is international .As a jury I work on many cases .like this where a policeofficer was killed in the line of duty. In some of the cases that I represented in the past the suspect or suspect’s were charged base in on the investigation or negligence, offices firefighters they are called first responders. Officers has a port o call which they has to follow when faces in difficult situations . Call backup if those port o calls are not followed. And things happen in a case like this the suspect or suspect’s could face with manslaughter. Or could upgrade. To first degree murder based upon the evidence or if their’s were any eye witness. A person is charged when proven guilty. I was brought up in a military family it’s very hard losing a love one in the line of duty .
My heart goes out to be family , and hope justice will be serve.

I am deeply saddened. His pain and sufferings were too much for his body to bear.
T & T medical profession did their utmost to help him. A special thank you to them. However, this was beyond their scope. God released him of his sufferings.
My heartfelt sympathy to his family. This is difficult for you to bear. In my heart I know that all Dominicans and St. Kitts people are mourning his loss with you.
Our hearts and prayers are with you, including his confreres in the St. Kitts Police Department. We are feeling that we lost a biological brother; of course a brother in Our Lord Jesus Christ. We mourn with you.
God be with you during this time of your sad loss and grief.
The consoling part is everyone was also given time to pray for him and his healing. In a way (what we cannot fully fathom), God heard the prayers and healed him for eternity.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen!

      July 18, 2016

It’s my humble opinion that he mourned the loss of his leg. It could be his blood pressure went up dangerously because of this.

I’ve been saying long ago that when people are going to be amputated, there should be some sort of pre-op psychiatric evaluation and post-op counseling.

You cannot expect a young active man to accept the loss of his leg and livelihood in that short space of time.

      • Ba Yo Bwa

Saul, I think you’ve just revealed a truth that most of us take for granted. Relieving an otherwise vibrant, mobile and vivacious person of a limb is note a simple thing. Serious counselling before and after such operation could best prepare the “victim” for a life that will be changed forever. Having said that heartfelt condolence to all his loved ones. Heaven must hold a place for this young son.

His kidneys/organs packed up. He had dialysis twice in St.Kitts before he was transported to TNT. Wish these hospitals were better equipped and better trained. Canada, UK or American medical so much better and sure one of those could have saved his life.
Bottom line he should have been shipped out straightaway as sure JNF knew it’s something they couldn’t cope or deal with. I’m off too too sad for me. By Brian :-(

Another matter, under the circumstances he may have lost his appetite, not being able to eat and drink as he would have liked to. Who knows? He could have been on intravenous. Of course, he was given sedatives and other mediation. These could have added to it. I am sorry he passed on. However, no more such pain and discomfort. RIP.

Well you do know if the patient is too ill to eat or drink they would do that thru a drip so the fact that he passes away wasn’t because of not eating but because he encountered many complications from his injury. Think Brian was left too long at the scene without help, bleeding profusely and that contributed to his death. So much to this story, I hope the truth comes out. The family if you are reading. Please get a good lawyer. The head of the St.Kitts police force is covering up a lot. I wish you all the best.

Yes it’s true the head of the St.kitts police Department are covering up the real fact of what actually happen as a jury work on many cases . In a murder case the suspect or suspect’s are charged when proven guilty. I red many of these comments , some of them are base facts i really don’t think that island are equipt to handle situation like what happened to that officer some of the predections saying he was shot in his leg were that officer who were on duty didn’t know what to do . By putting pressure on that area . Sometimes depending on how the incident happen the bullet probably passes out some were else. Think about if the bullet was laced in his head why he was in a coma. There’s a lot of possibilities. I would like to ask if the parents look at his injury’s if you want to know that truth get a trial attorney . And call for autopsy them you’ll know if he’s really died from the leg injuries. Sorry for your loss and may justice…
