A Dominican serving in the police force in St. Kitts was shot in the line of duty and is now fighting for his life in Trinidad, where he was airlifted for treatment.

Brian Pacquette is in urgent need of blood in Trinidad and relatives are appealing for assistance from those in that country who can assist.

Anyone in Trinidad who wishes to donate blood should go to the blood bank on Charlotte Street, Port of Spain and indicate they are giving blood for Brian Pacquette at West Shore Hospital.

According to WINN FM in St. Kitts, Pacquette was shot just before 1:00 am on Thursday last week during an early morning larceny investigation by himself and a fellow police officer. A person of interest was searched and a knife recovered. A struggle then ensued between the man and the two police officers.

WINN FM went on to say there are conflicting reports as to how Pacquette was injured. Some say the man reached for the officers’ weapons and when he grabbed it, the gun discharged, while other reports suggest that in the struggle, Pacquette’s fellow officer withdrew his weapon and discharged it, hitting him.

If you would like to understand the blood bank situation in Trinidad please read abstract from ‪#‎uwiblood‬
~ Welcome to the UWI Blood Donor Foundation Web Centre ~
Blood donation in Trinidad and Tobago is done mostly by family members or friends of patients in an emergency or to prevent one. Blood is rarely donated unless there is an emergency.
As a result, there is always a limited stock of blood for day to day use. As a safeguard, citizens who wish to give blood for general use are given the right to claim their blood if a family contact needs it.
Countries that collect blood in this way have a smaller blood supply than those in which all blood is collected from healthy community members with no link to specific patients.
The supply is larger and available to any patient in need. For this reason, our citizens who have surgery or complex treatment in the USA, England or Canada are not called upon to provide blood donors.
About 20,000 units of blood are collected annually in…

How sad. I pray he will get ample blood to help his survival. It is now a few days. I am wondering if this news was broadcasted in T&T. However, I will inform those I know in Trinidad. They also have relatives and friends in Trinidad.
Lord, please help him to recover.

Isn’t St. Kitts & Trinidad part of caricom? What kind of cooperation is this? All that to get some blood to save somebody’s life? A policeman at that?
Where are our intelligent people when they need to speak up?
Where is the blood Trinidad has in their blood bank?
No cooperation among heads of states.

Pray for our Brother, and son of the soil, a speedy recovery is hope for by the grace of God we know he will pull thru, As a servant protecting persons and property, sadly thats the unfortunate thing usually all those charged with this responsibility, fear the most. We have to realize how much of a danger those who are charged to protect us. our prayers are with him and his Family and friends.

It would be helpful and save time if it could be specified what blood group type is required.

Prayers for his survival and recovery are also sought. The family is seriously pleading for help. If you have any family member in Trinidad, please ask them to go and donate blood at the blood bank on Charlotte Street, then take a slip to the ICU on the second floor at West Shore Medical which will notify them that he/she has donated blood.

Thank you. We need your generosity.

Thank you very much for your concern. He needs a lot of blood products to help in his recovery and healing. He has a team of super fantastic doctors and others working with him. The doctors are really devoted to providing excellent care. He has received blood but there needs to be a supply to replenish what he has received and to have some ready for immediate use (from my understanding). Thank you for your offer to inform those you know in Trinidad to seek others to donate to Officer Brian Pacquette at the Charlotte Blood Bank. They must say they are donating for him. They must then receive a slip which they must take to the be ICU unit on the second floor of the West Shore Hospital. Thank you to the surgeons, doctors and their team for their dedication, interest in his recovery and hard work. Thank you to all who have donated blood. God’s blessings.
