Dominican Dr. Irving André, will receive the Marcus Garvey Award as part of Afroglobal Television’s Excellence Awards 2018 programme.

The gala event is scheduled for October 20th, 2018 at the Royalton Hotel in Toronto, Canada.

According to Afroglobal Television, the programme has “honoured achievers and brought together people of African origin and others of goodwill, to celebrate leadership and excellence” since 2004.

“For over fourteen years, we have focused on the unity and success stories of people of African descent through Planet Africa. The spirit of excellence, which has always powered our progress, has emerged as a powerful global brand, starting off with the magazine and the awards,” Moses A. Mawa, President & CEO of Silvertrust Media and Afroglobal Television, said.

Patricia Bebia Mawa, Executive Vice President of Afroglobal Television, added, “VIPs from all three levels of government, the corporate sector and others guests from around the world have confirmed their attendance.”

He served as an Assistant Crown Attorney before entering private practice as a criminal defence lawyer.

Justice André was appointed Judge in 2002.

He went back to school to obtain a Master of Laws degree in 2006 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 2010 from Osgoode Hall Law School, making him the first sitting judge to earn a doctorate degree.

Marcus Garvey was the only brother who wanted African in the diaspora to return to Africa, their homeland. He left his legacy but how many of us walk in his footsteps? Instead, we have aligned ourselves with those who tortured our fore-parents. Dr. Andre, I take my hat off to you, by continuing to promote the work of this great African, Marcus Garvey. Our history needs to be taught in all schools throughout the island. The powers that be must be vigilant and stop condoning outside History to be taught at our schools. We seem to know more European history than African history. The desire to know who we are as a people must be re-awakened in our spirits. The motivation to fight for what is rightfully ours must be innate else we will continue to diminish and be brought to our knees. Some of us are more interested in obtaining popularity than staying humble and earning what we need to advance ourselves. We need to be an example in society and not be fake about what we do.

This is the kind of role model Domininca needs to be seen and to be heard. A real independent son of the soil, no bobol business nor ductored awards. We in Domininca need more role models like Dr. Andre as a role model to our young people, who are focussed, committed, of sound value and merit and has earned all accolades, achievement on his own merit. This is a real distinguished Domininca who resides overseas and is still achieving that gives us and Dominican young people that visible achievement to want to move higher up in life and profession through merit and not through Bobol.
We do not have any role models within the Labour government as they are not sufficiently disciplined and developed enough to be role models to our young people, not even Skerrit is as such, too many devious activities within that failed corrupt Labour grouping. Therefore Skerrit lacks leadership acumen. Someone says he buys loyalty therefore has lost the value of what it is to be a role model.
    God Bless

Saying Congratulations to this illustrious son of the soil is to me not enough. He has achieved so much with hard work and dedication, love of self, country and family. Young people of Dominica, our children should feel privileged to have this man paving the way to greatness for them. From this son of the soil they can learn what it means to work hard and smart and benefit from dedication and commitment. These achievements are what really draws attention to our beautiful island. Honor is truly due to this humble and
    brilliant man.

Not to long ago, Dominica was a Pillar of Marcus Garvey’ UNIA Africa Consciousness . Dominicans of the past, held high office in this Great International African awareness movement. The true History of Africans in Dominica will show , that their struggle for Freedom and self-determination as a People evolved in the Marcus Garvey UNIA movement. The African man/Woman must continue to rise like the Sun, the philosophy of Marcus Garvey should forever be in our consciousness, it seems to have been lost in Dominica. The new Pan-African movement’s doctrine, is Marcus speaking. AFRICA FOR AFRICANS, AT HOME AND ABROAD.

Absolute rubbish you write there Mr ??. You see, there are more questions than answers, and you said something here that you are unable to develop in a debate constructive enough for us to move. That is why you have taken this thing personally and professionally.

Not all is lost. We have real Dr.’s too, who have actually worked for their degree and have no need to vulgarise it with a populist motorcade. Enough respect Dr. Andre. This is not a Tinseltown award but recognition of solid, measurable achievements and does our country proud.

On another note: Young people do you know who Marcus Garvey is? Google it and find out. Read the books. Watch the documentaries. An award befitting the character, personality and works of Dr. Andre, just like Mr Garvey. Not a NO-Name recognition for things his did not accomplish.

Congratulations Dr. Andre. Now this is the kind of doctorate and caliber of people we can honestly and sincerely be proud of. Well earned and well warranted. I will be there. PROUDLY. This is what calls for a motorcade. I hope the young people of Dominica are reading this and taking note. Again congratulations.

Another Dominican of great distinction, recognized for his leadership, excellence and his sterling contribution to justice and literature.
We may be a small island, but many of our sons and daughters continue to make a bid mark in this world.
