Fans worldwide remember Bob Marley

Bob Marley

Today would have been the 68th birthday of Nesta Robert Marley, better known to the masses as Bob Marley, and fans worldwide are taking time out to observe the day.

Marley died of cancer on May 11, 1981, but his notoriety continues unabated.

Marley is remembered as a figurehead and immortal iconic image to not only the sounds and sights of Reggae music, which he helped pioneer and make more accessible to the planet, but also as a metaphoric, literal, approachable, and tangible symbol of hope and peace, of positive energy, of having one reach into one’s self and soul and try to pull out all the greatness that one can muster up, with his music and timeless messages.

Many of his classic songs, “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Could You Be Loved,” “Is This Love,” “One Love,” “Caution,” “Buffalo Solidier,” “Jamming,” and “No Woman, No Cry,” are reggae classics and remain world classics.

His anthology record, the extremely aptly named ‘Legend,’ has been the opening musical salvo for many listeners who were green when it came to reggae, and it remains one of that genre’s most popular releases and finest hours.

In 2012 Marley made the Forbes annual rich list with a sum of $17million – meaning he earned far more in death than he ever did when he was alive.

Marley’s music has been and continues to be an inspiration to numerous artists and therapeutic to his fans and followers.

Long lives the memory of brother Bob. My favorite line is “EMANCIPATE YOURSELF FROM MENTAL SLAVERY, NONE BUT OURSELVES CAN FREE OUR MINDS.” His music lives on in our hearts forever.

reggae music is one of the elements that brought the caribbean together.non of the religions we know ever united the caribbean this way.you don’t need to smoke to overstand simple but powerful words.all caribbean gov’ts were fighting reggae because european and americans wanted to block the MISSILE.many songs were banned from airplay!the music of bob is there to stay.after 32 years the music is more than actual!he remains a genius from the caribbean!

Sorry 4 a late response.I only now return to my computer.
Last week while conversing with a few Jamaican coworkers about Bob Marley songs. I made the same statement, and of course I was asked in what way?.
There are many young men and women who have paid thousands of $ in the courts, some are presently in the prisons, because of smoking marijuana or trafficking in the same. You will also agree with me from marijuana to other hard drugs (they go hands in gloves)The young ones always craved for role models and because of his celebrity status they idolized him,and got hooked up in smoking marijuana.

Who was the one who promotes the smoking of MARIJUANA IN HIS SONGS?.
I can name many great citizens from JA in the north to Guyana in the south, but surely not Lester. He has done more harm to our world the good. This is my take.

I have listened to and love Bob Marley’s song from since I was a child and I have never and was never tempted to use ganja.

I find his music to be deep and profound…..so foolishness you talking there.

You obviously do not know Bob’s history. I have lived in Jamaica and in the 70’s there was a lot of political violence. He asked for the parties to unite and he was able to bring Manley and Siaga together on stage to symbolize unity despite differing political views. He never preached violence. And really, what is wrong with marijuana? Alcohol destroys more lives daily! Have you not ever considered that it is illegal because the West Indies were the suppliers? Read the news. Now that the Americans grow it, a few states have legalized it.

My people never cease to amaze me.While Dominicans are preparing to celebrate the observance to Bob Marley’s birth day ,are they are aware that next week will be fifty years since three Dominicans lost their lives in a monday carnival fire.I have not heard nothing from the people organizing carnival.I wish to ask all Domincans who were participating in Carnival on that dreadful day to observe TWO MINUTES of silence at 2.30pm on Carnival Monday.

“He who has no sin, cast the first stone”. Bob Marley was human but he had a net positive influence on the human race.

From the Apostle Paul, King Solomon, Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson who screwed their slaves, Bill Clinton, bishops and priests involved in rape and “bug-her-wii” (boggery); all have fallen short. Even Jesus was accused of performing miracles on the sabbath. So blow your horn J.J. By the way, do you drink alcohol?

His songs are very profound.Jamaicans appreciate love their own.
when will Dominica appreciate Lazo’s songs. He too has some great songs.
The organisers of the W C M Festival will not even give him a chance to display his talent in his own country. It is time that we bring him on.
