Former England striker Jermain Defoe is amongst the line up of celebrities hoping to drum up additional funds for the Caribbean island of Dominica following the devastation of Tropical Storm Erika last month.

The premiership star, whose father hails from the Caribbean island, will be present at the relief event ‘Doing it for Dominica’ at London’s Jazz Café next month (Oct 11).

In an effort to raise much-needed funds and further awareness to the plight of the Dominican people the ‘Doing It For Dominica’ campaign is a grassroots initiative started by UK music industry insiders, many of who have links to the island.

Musician and actor Bashy, real name Ashley Thomas, will also be in attendance, it has been revealed. The east London performer, who is half Ghanaian and half Dominican, has been particularly vocal on the crisis, describing the island as “close to his heart”.

His mum is St. Lucian and the guy is always in St. Lucia. He even founded a school or some sort in St. Lucia. On the UK documentary all he talked about was St. Lucia. So, stop spreading lies. I am half Lucian and Dominican like Jermaine and well proud of both islands.
