Former Registrar of the Dominica State College (DSC), Dr. Helen Francis-Seaman, has died.
She has been battling with Cancer and passed away in New York on Saturday 31st January 2015.
President of the DSC, Dr. Donald Peters, described her passing as very sad.
“It is a very sad day for us at the College and we want to send out our deepest sympathy to her family and friends,” he told DNO on Monday.
He said Dr. Francis-Seaman served the DSC well.
“Her early work here will always be remembered,” Dr. Peters said. “It is very sad that death has occurred and taken her away from her family.”
Dr. Francis-Seaman was employed at the DSC since the institution was established in 2002 and she also served as Vice President for Academic Affairs.
She was very instrumental in the transition of the DSC from the Clifton Dupigny Community College.
I recently found out about the news.
It was so shocking and so sad. Rest in peace beautiful Helen,.
You taught me at school and later a few years later we became work colleagues and friends. You were always so amazing and wonderful.
My condolences to Mrs Francis, Diane and Erin.
We the family of Helen (Dr. Seaman) thank you all for your condolences at the untimely passing of our dear Helen, and for your acknowledgements and appreciation of her sterling and unwavering contributions to the education system, in Dominica often at her own personal and financial sacrifice. The family and friends will be saying our final public farewell to her at a Memorial Mass on Friday 20 February at 3pm at the Soufriere RC Church, then retreating for private family time.
Deepest Sympathy to Dr Helen Francis-Seaman Family and Loved One’s. In God we Trust, May he give you the strength to deal with what you are going thought right know. May her soul rest in peace.
Although I continued contact with her professionally into adulthood, I will always remember her simply as Ms Francis, my no-nonsense Economics teacher in fifth form at CHS. Believe me, she was very frank, strict and would always “say it like it is”. No water in her mouth.
Fondly remembered
Rest in peace Ms Francis.
May her soul rest in eternal peace. Thank you for your contribution to the education field in Dominica, starting at CHS.
My sincere sympathy to her family. May the love of God comfort you now and always.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen!
It is with great sadness and very good memories that I read about Dr Helen’s death. She was a dear ad close colleague of mine at S I F O C O L during the period 1979 – 1981 and we remained good friends, As a matter of fact, I was having difficulty with a transcript from SIXTH FORM COLLEGE about 3 years ago and she was the one I spoke to directly and she expedited the process. WOW……..I am very sad and shocked.
My prayers go out to Helen’s family, friends, loved ones and close college and Academic associates. I will always remember her brilliance, her love and expertise in the field of HISTORY and just her warm and friendly personality.
R.I.P
Rest in peace……Lord touch the family……this amazing woman will be missed
My deepest condolences to her family and friends. Rest in peace Dr. Seaman.
Accept my deepest condolences to Dr.Seamen’s family and friends. May her words, actions and memories of wisdom always be with us :
Accept my sympathies to the family of the passing of the later Dr. Seamen may she always be with us in our hearts forever.
But I don’t understand how the President says “she has been so instrumental in the college and can’t be replaced”, but you FIRED her. this just doesn’t add up #NoHate just trying to add 1+1 together this just seems like hypocritical public gimmick to be true.
Okay Mr/Ms. Wow, before responding you should learn to read clearly. Don’t attempt to put words in peoples mouth. You cannot take the writer’s thoughts and state that they were the words of the DSC President. This is exactly how propergander starts.
Why was she fired?
i was wondering the same thing….. he fired seaman……. he press other great stalwarts at the college and he talking his crap now……
RIP Seaman
RIP miss. Loved you dearly. One of my favourite teachers ever. Geography was wonderful because of you and loved it because of you….May God hold you closely
Former Vice President of the Dominica State College has passed on. She will be remembered for her professionalism and dedication.
Her exit from the Dominica State College of which she helped established was controversial, meaning we asked questions, albeit it is thought she left, kicked, exited with a sour heart. Her last years as Vice President appears not to have been a memorable one.
She was also a candidate for the then vacant position of President of the State College when it was allegedly given to the current President. It is alleged that she was the one nominated to and her name was referred, as choice to fill in the Presidency position, to the Minister of Education who then ( well for sure) referred it to the Prime Minister where his choice was invoked. The rest is history.
God Bless you Helen………..May you Rest In Peace. Blessings
I am indeed saddened by Dr.Seaman’s death. She was my caribbean history lecturer at Sifocol and her daughter , Renee and I were among a handful of Dominicans at our university in the United States. My condolences to all her family. You are in my thoughts and prayers Rens.
RIP DEAR. IN THE NAME OF JESUS
My Condolences. RIP
I am saddened by death of Helen. my deepest sympathy to the Francis and Seaman family especially Diane, and Erin. I remembered you all in King George V street
My deepest sympathy to her family. Helen was a former High School colleague and dear friend. She knew what she wanted and went after it. Her scholastic educational achievements, even whilst raising a family speaks volumes for the go-get-it person that she was. She will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace My dear friend. My condolences to her siblings whom I know very well – Erin and Dianne Francis – Dianne is a former Miss Dominica.
Deepest sympathies to her loved ones.
She was a great lady, gone to soon. She put forward yeoman service to get the DSC started and going. It was because of her that that mess of an idea had a chance. Rest in peace Helen.
So very sad and shocked to read this. This wonderful lady taught me at CHS. Her classes were memorable. Deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
My condolences to the Francis and Seaman families and staff of DSC on the passing of Dr Seaman.
To the DNO reporter, I think the headline should have highlighted the highest (and most recent) position she held at the college – that of Vice President.
Deepest sympathies to all who loved/knew her. May the good Lord comfort your broken hearts at this difficult hour!
We all in DA are very saddened by her passing, may she rest in peace and the good Lord above continue to look over her family. I pray that her children get the strength to go through that sad period in their lives.
