Manning died last Saturday

The Government of Dominica has afforded two days of national mourning to the late Patrick Manning, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The two days of national mourning are meant to show respect, admiration and to celebrate the life of the former Prime Minister and regional leader.

In keeping with protocol to mark the period of mourning, the flag of the Commonwealth of Dominica will be flown at half-staff on all public buildings in the State on Friday, July 08, and Saturday, July 09, 2016.

Patrick Augustus Mervyn Manning was Leader of the People’s National Movement and became Prime Minster of the twin island nation from December 1991 to November 1995 and again from December 2001 to May 2010. Mr. Manning died of acute myeloid leukemia on Saturday July 02, 2016 in San Fernando, where he was born. He was 69.

In remembering his former colleague Prime Minister, Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit called Manning “a sincere advocate for regional integration,” and told Heads of Government at the 37th Regular Meeting of CARICOM being held in Guyana this week that he would rely on Manning’s wisdom for important regional matters.

According to information from the Office of the Prime Minister in Trinidad and Tobago, the funeral service for Mr. Manning will be held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port of Spain from 10:00am on Saturday, July 09, 2016 following which his family will hold a private burial.

Note how serene he looks. People’s feature tell a lot about them and what is contained in their inner core. The face is the mirror of the heart. He aged graciously. This tells much about him and his overall traits.
Some years ago I recall reading in a Toronto Caribbean newspaper that Manning, as PM informed and warned T & T calypsonians to tone down their scandalous lyrics. This also meant to avoid calling names of what they sang about. I clipped out the article. Will have to look for it to state exactly what he told them.
This informed me that he was a moral man.
I thought Dominica and other islands should follow suit.

Former PM Manning, may your soul rest in peace.
As a Christian Catholic we are to pray for departed souls. Hopefully they are in Purgatory making atonement for sins not expiated but for which God forgave them, souls which are not yet ready, perfected for Heaven and are not bad enough for Hell. Therefore, you will be remembered in my prayers.
We leave it up to our God who is the Judge.
The month of November is especially dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. If the Good Lord wills, this is, health and strength permitting, I will write your name in the Book of Life as I do others whom I know who passed on in the current year.
Our God is a loving, compassionate, merciful and forgiving God. Thanks be to God also for his patience with us pitiful, sinful mortals as He sees us, some, more so than others.

Why is that when the leaders who aspire for closer integration in the Caribbean passes on, that is the only time you hear how great they were? We need a united Caribbean, lets get on with it.

It is right that we mourn the passing of Patrick Manning. Dominica directly benefitted from his initiatives, especially the CARICOM Petroleum Fund when he was Prime Minister. Mr. Manning was a great supporter of regional integration and shared Trinidad and Tobago’s oil wealth with other CARICOM countries. May his soul rest in peace.

Dominicans tooo too hypocrite. We salute the gesture for or flag to fly half mast in respect and recognition of the passing of one of our former CARICOM heads. I support and tap Johnathan St. Jean’s back for his commentary on the hypocrisy of this divisive Prime Minister of Dominica. We have heard from his party and the great Roosey Douglas that anything goes during campaigning and election and that after it is all over we are one in unity again taking the country forward. Maipuis he said is only for the campaign platform, things get back to normal after. But for this man… Skrit that does not exist. He probably was not yet born when Patrick John was Prime Minister, Patrick has no qualms with him, yet Skrit’s behavior and treatment of the ailing Prime Minister indicates hate for Patrick John the former Prime Minister. If you cannot appreciate your own, how can you appreciate someone else. After all Patrick WAS THE FORMER PRIME MINISTER!! CANNOT ERASE HISTORY

The day before his funeral and the day of his funeral. It makes good sense.

I hope we honour the two days of mourning knowing how disrespectful this government is. Least we forget this is the same government that declared two days of mourning for the late First Chief Minister of Dominica and former ambassador his Excellency Frank Baron and in the middle of the official State mourning Skerrit and his cabinot had a blockorama in the middle of Roseau for the ground breaking for the start of corrupt works on the West bridge. So don’t be surprise if those shameless people in the Cabinot don’t do the same thing to Patrick Manning.

Patrick John lay in a hospital bed in Goodwill,Dominica, and this Labour Party administration didn’t move a finger to assist him until Q95 started a fund raising event to assist him and his family.Skerritt was shamed into assisting the first Prime Minister of Dominica.Oh these hypocrites. Two days of mourning for the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. These hypocrites cover themselves with ashes and sack cloth

So what? He was assisted. I do not want to bring back what occurred in Patrick John’s tenure. However, since it is history you should know what occurred then. Therefore, as the proverb, “Let sleeping dogs lie.”
Patrick has not yet passed on. I do not see why you would bring this up. It is irrelevant to the article. Furthermore, when Patrick John’s time comes, you should expect that he will receive similar honor, if not more for one who was a former D/can PM and as he is referred to, the first D/can PM. As with people as you and to be expected, some will approve it and others will not.

@Tell the facts,by your reasoning and value system people should only receive assistance and recognition after they have passed away.I defer as I want them to get their flowers whilst they are alive. Our own past Prime Minister, who was the leader of the Labour party was treated so badly, that the Labour government was shamed into assisting him,and you just want to sweep this under the rug like it doesn’t merit remembering or mentioning. My value and merit system is different from yours sir.I respect your right to think as you wish and say what you want to,but I disagree with your point of view on this one.The Labour government, and PM were negligent in not reaching out to PJ sooner.

All you had respect for the first Chief Minister Frank Baron. Although you all declared Friday and Saturday as days of mourning with flags flying at half staff all you had a a big sewo with swinging stars in Roseau for the ground breaking ceremony for the West Bridge. All you forget we were in mourning so I hope you know who doh have respect now. That was a big shame will go down in history. So if all you can do all you own that is Patrick Manning all you will respect. Anyway Honourable Manning R.I.P.

Excellent initiative of our Prime Minister to declare two days of mourning for the passing of former Prime Minister Patrick Manning – Trinidad and Tobago. This is a well deserving gesture of the Government of Dominica. Mr Manning was a strong Caribbean integrationist in the likes of Mr P. J Patterson. Mr Manning served with a clear vision of Caribbean unity as the only means to navigate the global challenges. His life was dedicated to Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean region. May he find perfect peace in God!

I liked Patrick Manning but this is, pure bull. Skerrit scoring cheap and absurd points. Maybe he is, ooking for cheap fuel from Trinidad in case his deal with Venezuela goes belly flop?
