PM Skerrit’s statement on election of Baroness Scotland as Commonwealth SG

Scotland is the first female SG of the Commonwealth
Scotland is the first female SG of the Commonwealth

It was with delight that I received word from H.E. President Charles Savarin, who so expertly and diplomatically piloted Baroness Patricia Scotland’s candidature through the selection process in Malta on our country’s behalf, that Baroness Scotland was today chosen as the 6th Secretary General of the Commonwealth.

I congratulate Patricia Scotland on her achievement of being the first woman to be elected to this position, and for the honour she has brought to Dominica and the Caribbean as a whole.

She follows in the footsteps of worthy holders of the position, including another Caribbean luminary, Sir Shridath Ramphal and we are confident that she will admirably acquit herself of her responsibility to the Commonwealth as it faces the harsh realities of the 21st century.

I remain tremendously proud of Patricia Scotland who throughout her life has shown herself to be a change-maker and an implementor. Her campaign for the past two years has demonstrated her ability to make things happen. With few financial resources and a small team, she has been able to present her vision of a re-vitalised and reformed Commonwealth to governments, civil society and the private sector, and to listen to their aspirations for a more vibrant Commonwealth.”

Once again, on behalf of the blessed Dominica Labour Party, its members, comrades and associates, we extend our most heartfelt congratulations to the new Commonwealth Secretary General, Dominica’s very own, Baroness Patricia Scotland! Congratulations are also in order for the persistence and fortitude of our dear and most precious Supreme Leader, the most loved and respected, His Eminence, Ordained, Anointed and Knighted within the Most Holy Roman Catholic Church, the right and honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Roosevelt M. Skerrit. This resounding victory for Baroness Scotland and our dear Supreme Leader has brought a cloud of shame and embarrassment upon the heads of the “novice leader” and the brain damaged supporters of the Uneducated Wicked People in opposition. I can imagine the screams of frustration vented by the “novice” in the privacy of his bathroom. The despair he felt at being the loser once again and this time…BIG TIME! Such a shame!

    • November 30, 2015

The question now is will the “novice” finally throw in the towel. Labourites are quite sure that at some point this man, although he is not much educated, will realize that he has taken enough blows. The “novice” has never tasted victory in politics since being elected. And, let us be clear, he was not elected because he was the best candidate for the position…he was elected because Marigot does not like Labourites. Point Blank! Now this said “novice” is faced with the most embarrassing and shameful defeat he has ever encountered in his political career. This one trumps even the loss at the Privy Council where he actually believed he could represent himself. With not a single victory to justify and solidify his leadership, the novice has managed to single handedly diminish his party’s support and weaken the party’s relevance and viability. The Uneducated Wicked People can forget about ever being the Government of Dominica! They’re finished!

      • November 30, 2015

Meanwhile, blessed, loyal, faithful and dedicated Labourites are celebrating all around the world! First female and first Dominican born General Secretary of the Commonwealth Nations! Labourites are so proud, so happy, so excited! Some Labourite comrades even felt sorry for the mental and physical health of those on the “other side”. I, for one, do not!!! I relish in the fact that the Uneducated Wicked People in opposition, their members, and brain dead supporters must now run to their holes and lick their wounds like a stray dog in Roseau that just received the beating of its life! I caution my dear Labourite Comrades that these people are extremely violent try not laugh in their faces on the buses, at your workplace or anywhere in the streets. They might lash out! Their party has been dealt a crippling blow which most political insiders doubt they will ever be able to recover from. Our Supreme Leader has secured his position for twenty more years. Tears of joy!!!!

        @LabourOfLove November 30, 2015

I like your advice to us, the Laborites.

We don’t want no physical banter with our own fellow Dominicans; we all have chosen by using our ability of “free will”. Thanks to God for approving our choice.

We have the victory through our God Fearing PM; but let us not provoke any civil war among ourselves. Peace is from God, for everyone who is willing to abide it–let us abide in Peace for the glory of God, who gives us that beautiful enlightenment of His Love.

        Blessings to all

congratulations to the baroness, that’s a big breakthrough for the region and for Dominica. but you’re making moves to legalize or for the acceptance of lgbt rights in the region. and that won’t work with us. sorry about that. we don’t hate gay lesbian bisexual or transgender people, however please don’t ask us to make it legal, or to decriminalize it. the only thing worth decriminalization is marijuana, and the only thing worth accepting is free movement around member states. chapter in book close.

“, a joint statement of Transparency International and Hon. Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of Malta, has pledged to put fighting corruption at the centre of the Commonwealth.”

Oh! Now I understand why Skerrit pushed so hard to ensure Baroness Scottland wins the election. Assuming Skerrit already knew fighting transparency and corruption would be on the top burner of the Commonwealth Heads of Government, who on earth do you think would be a better candidate to help Skerrit fight corruption and transparency?

On the basis of having a true Caribbean candidate to better serve the entire Caribbean I support the one and only Caribbean candidate, Sir Ronald Sanders . But considering the quote below, Scottland is the ideal candidate for Skerrit, so I support her.

“Unchecked, corruption can choke off development, rob people of faith in their governments and sow the seeds of instability and conflict. But against this challenge, the Commonwealth has a tremendous opportunity to lead”

If corruption is your agenda ,we’ll stop make a fool of yourself. .you need to check Ron sanders record as a servant of the island label the most corrupt island in the region ANTIGUA /BARBUDA under the labor party governance. If your novice leader hates corruption he would never support Ron Sanders..His reason he supports Sanders is because he hates everything Dominica prime minister support local, regional, and international. .He really loves opposing just for opposing sake..

As the Baroness is congratulated for the win and Skerritt for nomination of the right cnadidate spare a thought for two Caribbean countries that backed Skerrit’s choice from the start. Barbados and Jamaica supported the Baroness without hesitation. The OECS breddrin of Skerritt led by Browne of Antigua and Mitchell of Grenada ranted and raved for Sanders and were joined by Guyana and Trinidad in the latter stages. Antigua and Grenada to a lesser degree are known for corruption at all levels. So it proved when Antigua nominee Sanders was the subject of a corruption scandal . The man never got past the first round. Is Browne of Antigua capable of understanding embarrassment? Were it not for the level headiness of Skeritt and Stuart of Barbados the Caribbean would have again looked like a bunch of corrupt third worlders trying to force a man with a spotty record into one of the world’s top diplomatic posts. Congrats to Skeritt and the Baroness

Reading about Linton and his indifferent attitude, it caused me to form my opinion about him. Nevertheless, I could not believe it that he actually demanded, bold as he is, that the PM withdrew his nomination of the Baroness. He thinks he is more brilliant than the PM. That man is something else. The shame, embarrassment and loss are on him.

        @The Real Facts November 30, 2015

        Why can’t you believe it?

Linton has been trying to order Prime Minister Skerrit around from the day he became Opposition Leader–that he must do this, do that, and do the other thing immediately!

I still cannot understand why he thought or think that he had the right to speak so rudely to the Prime Minister

But what was more disgusting was recently when he ordered PM Skerrit to step down from Leadership–and to make his order even more despicable, he says the PM must do what he called for in 30 days–this is even more than rudeness!

But thanks to God for the wisdom and prestige that He has blessed PM Skerrit with–to show Lennox the he is not in control and he never will be,

Come down here to Dominica and see the corruption and high level of poverty and child sexual abuse we have. How on earth is the Commonwealth going to help us.
If I recall the British government had to intervene in Cayman Islands some time ago re some corruption in government high places. Is this true.
It seems the more people in government in Dominica and UK (ask Baroness Scotland why she resigned as AG in UK)engage in breaking state laws, devious corrupt means they are promoted , elevated and nominated to high high office, while the poor people are caught and off to prison.
Please pray for Dominica, we are in deep trouble.
As long as we have these corrupt leaders in the Caribbean, especially Dominica, we will never see meaning full development in our islands. Good luck on your £163,000.00 a year.

Great. Congratulations to Baroness Patricia Scotland. However, she should also focus on the grave problems confronting the Very Small States of the Commonwealth and the issue of Good Governance in these Very Small States. The governments of the United Kingdom and Dominica must also be congratulated for mounting a hard and strategic campaign .The use of the British mass media on the eve of the elections ,including the DAILY TELEGRAPH,effectively demolished H.E.Ambassador Saunders of Antigua. Hopes she proves herself equal to the tasks and cause the special needs of these Very Small States ,including integrity and transparency in public management,to remain high on the agenda.

It is indeed strange that the PM who showed testicular fortitude seeks to place Savarin as the process and executor when he was the one the one who fought even with his OECS HEADS OF STATE to keep the lady in the race
Kudos should be to Skerrit for his political stalwart and invincible stance against the political will of his caribbean colleagues and not the ceremonial and merely formal presentation by Savarin.
Is skerritt attempting to build the profile of Savarin who he appointed against the political will of dominicans which he thrusted upon us ?
Does the PM feel that he has enough goodwill to grant his own achievement to someone else in order to shore up the image of a President who but for Skerritt would be languishing with dishonor as a former leader of Freedom who destroyed his party whilst playing sycophancy to this PM for his won personal survival ?
Let us be frank it is the image of the Baroness and the balls of Skerritt which did this .
    Great job PM!

Is skerritt attempting to build the profile of Savarin who he appointed against the political will of dominicans which he thrusted upon us?—–@observer November 28, 2015

Prime Minister Skerrit is a humble man, a virtue of Love which gives us exaltation. Humility cause us not to think in the terms of Me, Myself, and I; humility is the virtue in Love which causes us to give others more honor than accept for our self–just as it is said by the apostle Paul in the scripture below, @Phillipians 2: 3-4

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness (humility) of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others”

Humility in Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, is the reason he will continue to have victory; those who think they can win against him are fighting a losing battle; for they cannot apply humility, which a blessing from God..

Dominicans, Man, People, I laughed at this statement below from the script above….and I quote:

“It was with delight that I received word from H.E. President Charles Savarin, who so expertly and diplomatically piloted Baroness Patricia Scotland’s candidature..”

This is the same Charles Savarin who upon the death of Pierre Charles says …so expertly and diplomatically and personally piloted that under no certain terms that Roosevelt Skerrit should become Prime Minister. Indicated that He is too young and inexperience and will damage the country`s development and I should be Prime Minister. LOL…LOL…Political language to the meaning.
Show me your friends and company in political crime, I tell you who you are.
Dominicans wake up please, the country is in bad and dangerous hand, only interested in themselves and their friends

    • November 29, 2015

      “views expreesed November 28, 2015”

You are laughing at yourself–here is why!

First of all Charles Savarin’s denunciation against PM Skerrit proved to be wrong up to 15 years today; but it seem that Mr. Skerrit held nothing against him, up to today–but why?

God planted Mr. Skerrit to lead our Dominica, and that Leadership is being guided by God, Himself all along.

“Love” in a person controls his way of Life, for Love is from God, who gives us Life–Mr. Skerrit is doing his work by the Will of Love, this is proven to be true right into this day.

That is the reason he does not hold any grievance against Charles Savarin or anyone else for that matter–he can’t; even if he wants to–for the authority behind him, is the Principles of Love from the first day up to today

PM Skerrit is like Bible King Solomon–he was a young man, when he was appointed as Israel’s King, by God’s Will. Solomon made it –especially through great wisdom– until old age

    Read again my people:

“she has been able to present her vision of a re-vitalised and reformed Commonwealth to governments, civil society and the private sector, and to listen to their aspirations for a more vibrant Commonwealth.”

….Now you read, what is being left out. Nothing to address fundamental issues of poverty that affects people families that keeps them poor. Dominica almost 40 years “Independent” competing with Haiti who has most fluent poverty and open corrupt government ably assisted by religious leaders from all faiths with retired politicians.
YOu want vibrant – then clean Dominica and get rid of this DLP corrupt government

No focus on monitoring corrupt, devious bobol governments who take the poor and deprived for granted. No mention of cleaning up corrupt leaders, Prime Ministers and government. No mention of decent transparent and governments`…

Yes she is a Dominican by birth but left Dominica when she was 2 years old, which means she did not attend pre-school, primary school, high school or college in Dominica. So she is not known to us. She is British and knows absolutely nothing about life in Dominica or the Caribbean.

    Illuminatis at work?

Who has won? The former colonial country for which Baroness Scotland works is having the last laugh. It’s not easy to understand the machinations and agenda of those countries, in the global scheme of things, in this new colonial era.

The wealth of the Third World states are being depleted by corruption, environmental disasters, man-made ones too, bad governance, Africa, the pacific, Asia, Middle East Latin America and the Caribbean are seeing their economies decline and their people becoming poorer and poorer. A few are bathing in wealth obtained by dubious means, on the backs of the people and its getting worse.

People’s rights are being curtailed and its getting worse.

Remember even as the appointee of international co-coordinator of relief for Dominica, after hurricane Erika, Dominicans are still waiting for her report, her success in mobilising much needed financial or/and other assistance to this day. Gov’t has told us nothing

    Dear God,
Thank you for the blessings of Liberty and domestic Peace. Thank you for the unalienable rights that you bestow upon us, the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Thank you for the Constitution, which prevents the rise of Tyrannical Regimes and Dictatorships and which also protects free speech, freedom of the press, the right to assemble and the right to freely exercise our religious faith without restraint or molestation by the Government or anyone else.
Thank you for the second amendment, which exists to enable WE THE PEOPLE to keep Rogue Government in Check.
Thank you for your grace and for your providence, which guides peoples and nations and gives them the victory over the devil.
Thank you for securing the ultimate triumph of the Good, which is our daily consolation and impels us to daily join in the battle and combat those evils and social inequities that lead to suffering and cultural disintegration.
