Pointe Michel native and United Kingdom-based, David Blanchard, has given back to his old school and is encouraging others to do the same.
Blanchard, a past student of St. Luke’s Primary School, said his contribution is towards the further development of the institution.
On Tuesday 30th June 2015, he made a donated a barrel which consisted of clothing, shoes, snacks, books, a coffee grinder, toys and a brand new laptop computer valued over EC$ 4,200 at the school’s assembly.
“I encouraged the students that at some point in their lives they will be like me to help someone in the future,” he told Dominica News Online. “I said to them basically I am seeing before me lawyers, doctors, policemen, and in life you can be whatever you want to be. The only person who can hinder you from being successful is your own self.”
He said one of the reasons for the donation is to “encourage people in the diaspora, Dominicans, past students to encourage them, those who can give they should feel free. God has blessed you.”
He said he intends to continue his donations and expand to other communities around the island.
Dave well done and good that you remember your roots.
Great Job Dave! Blessings to you
Great job Mr. Blanchard.
It would be very helpful if more continues this gesture. Let think more about what we can do for our country and continue what helped build Dominica, sharing.
Well done. But I must point out that so many people do the same privately, i don’t know why this one made the news. It might be an eye opener for some, and probably best to make Dominicans aware of the level of support they have from outside since they sometimes think they don’t need help and have it all, not realising where it comes from. But I personally rather give privately. Mine is going to a different school.
Congratulations Mr Dave Blanchard
Nice, more dominican should do the same
good job mr blanchard . thats a real sls past student. but could someone tell the principal dont sell the stuff for the students .. please give to the needy you know who they are.
pl pass the message to the principal stop raffling
and to the teacher dont select the good things first and sell the no
goods to people
it have people that giving and d govermene playing political with it
Fantastic! Well done. It is encouraging to see people giving back in whatever way god makes possible.
great job Mr. Blanchard.
I pray that one day my fellow Dominicans will give positive and tangible comments on post. It is time my people look beyond the bun, think big, act huge and participate gigantic. Stop the bashing, erase politics and collaborate with the good Samaritans who are giving back and if you cant give materials give good thoughts and positive comments.
good vibes
Congrats to Dave for thinking of his village well done we all should try to contribute no matter how small the amount.
We all give Mr.Blanchard but so many are bribed into the dirty political talking that they forget how many we in the diaspora give back.
You could commence with no more bashing.
