Permanent Secretary (Ag.) in the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr. Gerard Jean-Jacques, has been recognized by the Université Laval in Quebec, Canada.
Dr. Jean-Jacques received two honours. First, the Department of Political Science honoured him for producing the top doctoral thesis in the Department in the 2016- 2017 academic period. The thesis is entitled “Power Relations and Good Governance: A social network analysis of the evolution of the Integrity in Public Office Act in the Commonwealth of Dominica.” It focuses on power relations among actors during the development phases of the Act.
Then, second, at a “Gala of Excellence” in Quebec City, Dr. Jean-Jacques was named among five other doctoral graduates of the university for being the top six doctoral graduates of 2017 in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Université Laval.
In recognizing the graduates, the University considered the strength of their academic scores, the analytical rigor of their doctoral theses, their commitment and perseverance to their studies, and their post-studies career profile.
Dr. Jean-Jacques’ areas of specialization are public policy, public administration, governance, and public management with research interests in democracy, governance, and power. Until August 2016, Dr. Jean-Jacques was the Permanent Secretary (Ag.) in the Ministry of Tourism and Urban Renewal.
PS Jean-Jacques used the University’s recognition as a platform for spotlighting the “Nature Isle of the Caribbean”, Dominica’s, commitment to becoming the first climate resilient nation in the world. While in Quebec, he made a 45-minute presentation to the university community on the role of Dominica’s public administration in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
Dr. Jean-Jacques has since returned to office as Permanent Secretary (Ag.) in the Office of the Prime Minister.
God Bless Dominica
Yes We can do
proud Dominican
Congrats. We are better for all of our educated folks, even though it does not seem that way sometimes. The constraints of natural resources, small populations and other macro factors do limit our potential and growth.
you mean…all studies and worked sooooooooo hard and all you have a PM with little or no academics treating all u like his LITTLE BOYS AND GIRLS…………so what is all that loudest about………..why people like you with all knowledge and skills CANNOT STAND UP to him???????? and PUT HIM STRAIGHT….it’s a SHAME…isn’t KNOWLEDGE POWER?????????
Waiting on God and you want to give us another PM with NO ACADEMICS like Linton? ARe you serious.
Congrates Doc.
All the best.
Doc.
Congrats.
All the best.
At least that one studied for his doctorate.
Congratulations and best wishes Doc
Congratulations to the Dr. it’s good when Dominicans perform well academically. The question however is, with so many qualified in the DA why are we not feeling the Country moving forward?
With a Theses like that, what implication does this have for policy formulation in making good governance safeguard institutions in our Country?
The government in Dominica is terribly corrupt. No question!! And with the new Dr. in the PMs office, makes one wonder is this an Oxymoron, or are we only creating an Academic Elitist society?
What really is your point? You just talking and maybe feeling left out so vent your jealousy my friend.
Not at all..I respect and admire personal sacrifices and it’s not only in academics. I’m sure the doc. is well deserving. My issue is not personal, It has to do with the collective impact of all the Phds and the MBAs etc. in Dominica. We should be seeing more, they need to make more impact, their voices should be heard, get into the communities, stand up for the right thing and so on..Peace and Love!!
Dominica should be #1 in the OECS, with all these high qualified people in Government, WTH are the doing?
Congratulations.
