Carbon has been attacked several times in Roseau

A homeless man was reportedly attacked in Roseau and hot water was thrown on him and the police now say they have a suspect in the matter.

The man, Andy Carbon, known as ‘Push Up’ from Boetica, was attacked on Wednesday, according to eyewitnesses.

He has now been hospitalized.

The eyewitnesses said Carbon was standing outside a restaurant in Roseau when an employee came out with a yellow container filled with hot water and threw it on him.

Carbon is now suffering from burns on his back.

Police PRO Pellam Jno Baptiste said there is a suspect in the matter.

He stated that around 5:30 pm on Thursday, June 30, the police responded to information which suggested that Carbon, 32, was burnt with an unknown substance.

“His mother, Agatha Theophile, of High Street in Roseau was issued a medical examination form on his behalf,” Jno Baptiste said. “By that time the police had already secured the assistance of the Fire and Ambulance Services and Carbon was transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was examined by a medical doctor and discharged.”

He said investigations are ongoing.

Many Dominicans have taken to social media to condemn the attack. Many have called on the police to investigate the matter.

This is not the first time Carbon has suffered a similar fate in Roseau.

Last year he was hospitalized with rectal prolapse after he was attacked.

Rectal prolapse occurs when part or all of the wall of the rectum slides out of place, sometimes sticking out of the anus, according to WebMD.

No one is above the Law, this person should be made an example of. I don’t care if their family is part of the cabinet or is in power. If the person was killed would she not be arrested. I would encourage the family to sue. This boys now have scares that can never be removed.

Why not offer him food, or call the police.
I am praying that this business close, the person get arrest and the law prevail. I will not purchase anything in this restaurant.

Two men were walking down Old St. on a sultry day in Roseau as is often the case when they came upon a pitiable being standing in the middle of the road with his hand out stretched and as the man to the left of him passed by saying to himself,” Hum….I wonder if he is a Red”, just as the man to his right passed mumbling under his breath ” looks a little Blue to me” , and as they both avoided him with their noses stuck up in the air the beleaguered man said to them God Bless You as the went about their business. I
have often heard it said, that we must be careful because the person that we meet on our way up just may be the same person that we must pass by on our way down, this is what I have heard. But the one thing that I do know is that we are all Dominicans, and just what does it mean to be Dominican ” all for one, and one for all”, really that is what separates us from everyone else on the planet.

Andy is one of us and we have to accept that. Continued next post.

If you can find it in your hearts to pray for Andy and the others that are less fortunate than us other Dominicans, then do so and when you can, that is when your conditions warrant it will you think about sharing your humanity and your humility with them whenever and wherever that maybe and please pray for Andy’s recovery and the recovery of the others that are as much Dominican as you. So that you will never ever be intimidated by a poor helpless man that can not fend for himself again. Thank you.

MR. Carbon! when the person asked you to leave because you are annoying her customers why did you stay? If you had left this would not have happen to you. IN situation like this one must remain calm, polite and stay in control. loosing your temper and regret afterwards. according to comments ,vagrancy is acceptable, I am saying no, the vagrants can see, hear, walk and understand, so you talk to them in a manner they will understand, make time for them, listen to them, make them feel important and don’t run them down so as to hurt heir feelings. Love concurs all.

No body cares only looking for some one to blame. A man living half his age is at the corner of the street begging. Relatives could have reported the matter to social services, they did not, The police on patrol in the street of Roseau must have seen the man and did nothing.Hey! you loitering with intent if I see you here again I will arrest you and take you to the station, they did nothing. Some claimed he is very demanding and aggressive. SOME cold water could have done the trick. Hot oil was an accident. Relatives suppose to be looking out for each other, Where were they? I remember the article of what occurred to him last year. Thank God he recovered. he perpetrator(s) were not caught.
Now this. It is upsetting to see the burns. The poor man. At least the police knows where it occurred and who burned him. I visualize a law suit is looming. The mother should do so on his behalf. This person should not get away with this.
If he was trespassing or is standing in front of the restaurant, why not call the police to ask him to leave and not return? Why did you have to take it into your hands and throw hot water on him?
This person did not think twice to do something as heartless as that. The one who did this heinous act should not be employed in a restaurant of all places and deserves to be fired. Hope that employee is arrested and charged.
Those who harm others, insult them by also utilizing derogatory words in any manner and try to rob them of their dignity, privilege and right are inhumane and godless.

Here is what needs to happen:
    – first and foremost medical care for Andy
    – arrest and charge the person who did this
    – immediately terminate this employee
    – if the employee is not terminated, boycott the restaurant

Too much talking……………..action speaks louder than words

It is a real shame and disgrace. Dominicans should boycott that particular restaurant as a sign of protest and civil society and its leaders should stage a protest outside that particular restaurant for at least one morning to cry out the injustice meted out to the individual and to bring urgency to the vagrancy crisis that government – one man – will do something. I for one would be willing to be there. The facts are already beginning to be contorted. The proprietor…. now an employer. Who ever Mr. CID, at least let us see that justice seems to be done.

  14. anonymous
    July 1, 2016

God help us …..it is not because he’s a vagrant or an addict . He is a person like everyone else. This person would not treat a dog in that manner so why do this to him. Full payment of the medical bills should be made by the proprietor of the business. Whether it’s Mr or Mrs So and So is no reason for this to go unpunished. What we don’t want for ourselves we shouldn’t do to another .

Some rehabilitation center should be erected to house these people. It’s not just for government to do but everyone who has a stake…..the government officials of the different ministries as well as the Parl Rep: come up with a viable plan and do something and stop talking. Now is time for action.

But God will judge that proprietor, the employee which ever one if the law of this land does nothing. Punishment is for everyone who has done wrong and not just some but ALL no matter the social status.
You can do the crime, you can do the time.

This issue of vagrancy harassment needs to be dealt with. Not supporting the person who committed the offense, but people are frustrated with these eyesores harassing everyone. The other day Mabel take my cocoa tea and drink as i turn my back to pick up a coin that fall. thankfully the place i bought it from gave me another one after shooing her from the place like an unwanted pet. everyone laughed but it was a matter of concern for the owner of the business. Last night i watched a paro get knocked out and dragged to the entrance of a bar for harassing customers at a bar in the Roseau Market. Mister PM and Minister of Tourism and Minister of National Security, yes they have rights, they are people too, but these people are not contributing to society, not paying taxes, not doing any social services or justices to the Dominican Society. we need to address the situation for their safety as well as ours.

For further information, someone recently told me of a St. Lucian lady who had some bags of groceries and was waiting on the side of the street for her husband to pick her up. A man came along and grabbed one of them, saying to her, “It is not fair that you should have so many grocery bags. He walked away with it.
This occurred in Toronto some years ago. I was informed the lady has since passed away.
I was shocked that someone would have done that. Some people are bold and non-caring.
The lady came from work and went to the grocery, purchased her items for her, her husband and family and this occurred. You can imagine how shocked she was. This goes to show every country has such problems or similar ones. The stories are many.

Remember they were babies and probably were loved and were lovable ones at that. What happened to cause them to live such a lifestyle? It must be looked into, their life as youths and older, getting down to the depth and source of it.
How were they nurtured? How did this happen to them? Did they ever attend school? As that woman, Mabel, it is obvious she does not know better. Otherwise she would not have done that.
Education is the key to hopefully acquiring common sense and consideration for others and utilizing them. If they do not possess them, they are not able to practice them. This is the problem.

What goes around comes around. People need to stop abusing the homeless and mentally ill on the streets. I wonder if the person who did that have any children.

If he did something wrong, there are many other ways that you could have dealt with the situation than burning him. I am sure that evil person would not want someone to do that to his/her child.

I think the police need to do a psychiatric evaluation on that person because that person must be mentally ill or just plain evil.

There are people who could tighten their belts and do something to help Mr. Carbon. The government is weighed in the balance and found wanting. In the great judgment day Christ is going to say “… inasmuch as you have not done it unto one the least of these may brothers ye have not done it unto me.” You don’t have to believe the Protestant evangelist. Ask your own parish priest. It is what your church teaches. It is the Word of God You are a fool to ignore it.

  30. One can understand the manager of the restaurant not wanting a homeless man “loitering” outside their
front door. Sad! This is how the world thinks. But there are better ways to handle the “problem” than this.

The man may have been hungry. I tell you the truth before God. Had I been there and knew he was hungry I would have bought him a meal. Remember who it was who said “…….. Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one the least of these my brethren ye have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25:40)

Charges should be laid against the employee and the business should be closed until full restitution is made to Mr. Carbon.

The individual who committed such inhumane act should be fired. If the employer fails to fire this individual then Dominicans should call for a total boycott of this establishment. 39. July 1, 2016

Instead of burning him with hot water ,why couldn’t you offer him a plate of food? Does the owner condem the employee actions? Did he/ she fired that employee ? If not Your business will never prosper GOD don’t like ugly. I ask all Dominican who frequent this establishment should boycot this place.

    • YES :!:

He should have been given a plate of food.

      The place should be boycotted.

Very few things bring tears to my eyes. But this made me weep.

i just read…DNO has been reliably informed the police is investigating the matter, what are you all people really reading and commenting on…hearsay or researchable information,it right before your eyes, but right away you making the police look bad.

I also noticed that the report said that he has a mother living on High street. Not sure why he is homeless then. Perhaps mentally ill or something? Just asking! Sorry he got treated that way!

Relatives tend to surface in times like these right!

      • Give the police a chance.

However, the people want to know what the police have done.

As a former licensed Private Investigator under the Province of Ontario in Canada (license number 142306) just after reading the DNO story I can tell you there does not seem to be much to investigate. If somebody did this to a dog in Canada the person would already be in jail or waiting at home under orders not to go anywhere.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

Barbara, the man is an adult. He is over 30 years old. Politicians let him vote but do not take care of him. His mother has no obligation to look after him, the law says so. When he commits a crime it is his responsibility, not his mother’s. Yes, he is a nuisance and there is something not right in his head, so make the Govt. look after him and others like him. They built a stadium that does not pay its way, a State Palace, fisheries complexes that are a waste and cost us money. But there is a Grotto Home behind the State College, sprouting weeds and standing empty. I prefer my tax going tom help these people rather than white elephants.

We always boasting that we are the friendliest and kindest people in the Caribbean but I think we have dark hearts and are very callous and selfish inside. I hope Andy recovers and that Govt. finally make provision for these pitiful homeless. Don’t tell me again they can not do it on their own when they have no problem building a palace for one man and have the lights burning there all night. You think visitors do not notice that huge difference in our attitude? Today I am embarrass to be Dominican.

    • Be proud to be Dominican.

The commentators are speaking with one voice. They are angry. Whoever did this wicked deed has the whole nation against her (or him). This was not Dominica.

To most of us this type of behavior is deplorable and difficult to comprehend. There are those among us who appear normal in their ways, they’re usually the one’s pointing the finger at others yet deep down there is hatred in their hearts for themselves so they express it towards others.

Demons have definitely taken over this country.

How can anyone do this to a child of God? We are made in His image and likeness, no one deserves this inhumane treatment.

I assume that the police are waiting for ‘orders’ to investigate but would not hesitate to arrest a mourner in the cemetery. What have we come to?????

    • July 1, 2016

Was a report made? Given his unfortunate situation he might not have made a report and if no report is made there is nothing for the police to investigate and prefer charges. Again we will use this unfortunate incident for political gain paying little attention to the victim. Once the matter no longer has political value he will be forgotten.

      • Face the Facts
        July 2, 2016

The police knew what happened. They saw the burns. If they know who burnt him with hot water, the police should lay charges for it is a crime.
Even though he is incapable of personally lodging a complaint; making a report, it is known what occurred to him. The medical report indicates the extent of his injuries. If his injuries are not properly treated, he could develop gangrene..
Using politics again! If you are a Dominican resident, you can do something about it and help this man.

      Yes
That’s what we have come to as I predicted several years ago when I heard what was coming over the airwaves. In case we have forgotten, we are all children of God even those that we call all those filthy names here on this site and on the radio and other media.

All the curses from our filthy mouths are taking root in our country. When we walk around, let us take a good look at the faces we meet on the street many are tied up in angry knots for no good reason that we can see. Perhaps they are just coming from a dose of mepuis giving on the radio station which is the daily coffee and the evening night cap.

We shall all suffer, I keep saying and moreso our children. You see people have already started screaming hell when they begin to get a dose of their own medicine? You are not supposed to do to them on social media and on radio what they have been doing to so many others for so many years.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you people who were busy giving me thumbs down.

Dominica is FAR gone as we continue to reap the harvest of the “No law no constitution ” speech that only seems to work for some. Last week we saw how a female was arrested at the cemetery, while burying hee mother for a simple thing. But today we read of a restaurant pouring hot water on a human being, since Wednesday, and yet, the police force of some, is yet to arrest anyone? Dominica is far gone, gone, gone.

    • Face the Facts
      July 2, 2016

Dominica is not far gone. It is all in your mind. You place the blame always on the back of the PM.
Setting aside what occurred in the cemetery, the issue is what occurred to the man which was atrocious and a crime.
Some nationals must also blame themselves. What have they done, are doing and plan to do to help their country and the poor? It should not always be talk, talk, talk and criticisms. These contribute to nothing.

Horrible to hear. It can be a nuisance to have deprived homeless persons lurking outside the premises but this is a completely unacceptable and criminally inhumane behavior – to intentionally burn and injure people. I remember this guy, as well as Nick and “Gravity” and have spared him a few coins. His most likely has serious mental issues and should be under the care of trained professionals, not wandering the streets. Not a good publicity stunt for the restaurant I must say and without a doubt a police matter. This is a life threatening attack and if the victim had been a “respectable citizen” the police would not think twice if to charge the attacker.
