A young entrepreneur, Callister Sango, will be launching a business venture, AgriVertise, which she said will seek to solve the majority of the issues faced by the agricultural sector in Dominica.
She stated that it is her desire to see Agriculture rise again in Dominica and so she created AgriVertise in an effort to facilitate trade between food suppliers and consumers.
According to her, the agency will fulfill its mission of increasing the profitability of businesses and individuals actively involved in the food and agri-business sector through its advertising, branding and marketing solutions. The main objective is to connect suppliers to customers and vice versa.
“I couldn’t help but notice the lack of advertising and branding where the farmers, fishermen, herbalists, seedling propagators are concerned. It’s as though they’ve yet to realize that stuff like farming and fishing is a business. A name is important. Labelling and packaging is equally as important. I am here, AgriVertise is here to change that,” she explained. “I am going to do everything in my power, through AgriVertise to ensure that our farmers and fishermen make real money from their work. If it means that we have to teach them how to use the Internet, so be it. With the internet, everything becomes easier because that is where majority of people spend their time. Our solution is simple. We create the sales, and pass it unto our suppliers or we source the product and deliver it to our customers.”
Sango also stated that she created a simple website which will aid business transactions for suppliers as well as customers.
“It’s really easy to send your orders for eggs, fresh produce, broilers etc…. as a customer or to send us information as it relates to the supply that you have available if you’re a supplier. We handle the nitty gritty of things,” she noted.
She said that a lot of research has gone into the concept and she believes that volunteers will be needed to assist the less tech and Internet savvy persons, especially the farmers, with updating their information electronically on a daily or weekly basis.
Sango was the Agriculture student of the year of the graduating class 2014 at the Dominica State College. She also received training from the Dominica Youth Trust in 2015 where she received 2nd place for the Business Innovation Award.
The official launching for AgriVertise is scheduled for October 2016.
