IN PICTURES: Opening parade of Carnival 2017

The Real Mas 2017 officially kicked off in Dominica with the Carnival opening parade through the streets of Roseau on Saturday.

The parade consists of all the contestants of the various pageants and competitions which will be held during the Carnival season, as well as floats from various businesses, lapeau kabwit bands, bwa bwa and much more.

An official ceremony followed the parade at the Carnival City in Pottersville.

On Saturday Roseau was alive with carnival bands and music – people of course  Many beautiful pictures. It looks cloudy. At least it did not rain. Dominicans appear to be all-set for Carnival. The time is fast approaching. How time flies. Enjoy yourself and safely so.

Mardi gras is February 28. The first day of a 12 day carnival should be th 17th.

The indecency is okay for carnival, then Ash Wednesday, we go and receive some ashes then all is well with the Lord. Christianity my ,,,,,,,

    • February 6, 2017

This indecency is not O.K. at carnival or anyplace else. It shows what the participants are. This type of vulgarity excites lust. Coupled with the alcohol that is flowing freely it results in sin, the bitter results of which linger long after the festivities end.

The ashes do not atone. Sorry, this is not Christianity. Common sense would tell you any religion that condones this kind of revelry is not the church of the living God founded by Christ. The true church (which is a body of believers of which Christ is the risen Head not an organization) does not give people any reason to think they can practice immorality and be absolved by such religious hocus-pocus.

What is needed is the clear preaching of the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) (Romans 1:16) by which people are regenerated and made new in Christ (as in 2 Corinthians 5:17) followed by the balanced uncompromised teaching of the Bible (Matthew 28,19,20) to produce holiness of heart and life.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

How many parents, doctors, and priests have heard the sad words *It happened during carnival* :?: But you have governments condoning and supporting these activities. The poorer the countries and the more problems they have with alcohol, drugs, illegitimacy, and crime the bigger their annual bash. Something to be celebrated :!:

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. 8)

Reverend. Hill, there was a time I participated in Carnival; even played “mass” as we called it then. I also did in Toronto. I have pictures to show for it. We get a good laugh out of viewing those pictures.
We know, as we grow older, there is a time for everything. Some of us say, “Gone are the days.”
Carnival is a tradition and cannot be stopped. People at whatever age love their carnival. Know that, as some grow older, they may not participate. They probably will view it, if they can.
I recall those days in D/ca,most elderly preferred to view the bands passing, from their balcony. When they were young some also played. It really is a happy time to get together, socialize and entertain.
We do know that some people could overdo it.
I have not lost my taste for carnival and the music. As we get older, we feel, some of the lyrics could be toned down. However, I do not think some of the costumes will change. People expect that. We keep an open mind.

You are joking. Not so. While most nationals enjoy carnival, we must not take God for granted. I recognize it is difficult to resist a tradition which stems from hundreds of years ago except it is much improved.
You must ask his forgiveness and make restitution in the form of penance and sacrifice. Pray and ask forgiveness for those who are immodestly dressed and who also conduct themselves in a disorderly manner, drinking, getting drunk, etc.

I love the enthusiasm and spirit of our people. Carnival is a people’s thing and must be free of political interference. That ceremony at Pottersville was a shambles, so amateurish I switched off the live coverage on my screen.

The pictures are very lovely and festive and to see so many children and seniors is welcoming , I pray that every one will have a trouble free carnival season.
I know that the country is on edge but we all want to have an enjoyable carnival .
I know a lot of you will disagree but I will say it why so many revelers are covering up their faces we should be able to see every one face maybe the organizers should address that matter because we don’t want any trouble at all.

Brillan , Dominica at its best. A opportunity to build up Dominica as cultural destination, but this government so enaged in passport scams rather than buikding up the reosurces of our cuktural identity.

How beautiful and resourceful our people are

How corrupt and deceitful our inept Labour government is, creating lots of distractions as if something is happening.
Look what is happening – our dear, artistes, planners, band leaders, our designers, young people engaged in design, arts and positive show case.

    Good luck all
