IN PICTURES: Wet working conditions at the Post Office

Containers lined up to collect the water falling from the ceiling

Employees at the General Post Office in Roseau are silently crying out for help to alleviate working conditions at the post office building, especially when it rains.

The torrential rain of the past few days has left behind a less than desirable work environment at the post office building which is located on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard.

Although the heavy rainfall has stopped and the sun has begun to dry up the city, water continues to fall from the ceiling above onto the floor of the Sorting Section on the ground floor of the building.

Efforts to reach management at the post office as well as the DPSU which DNO understands, represents post office workers, have so far been unsuccessful.

Below are some videos which depict the condition of the sorting area at the post office earlier today.

Boy Boy Boy, Those people working in the Post Office wicked eh pal! So they rather get sick than to protect their working conditions?

The people who working at the post office are expected to be at work. The heads of those people are the ones who should be ashamed. The post office has been an eyesore for years now. The new section being build is inhabited by homeless paros who are making the site even worse. I do not blame the workers as they have a job to do and are expected to be at work so they report. I blame the officials who insist that they continue to work in these conditions.

    “Silently Crying” … hmmm
All the money the country putting towards sewo should’ve been put towards patching minor problems like this. Put in the work now, there is always time to party later. Then again that is just the tip of the iceberg.. the root of major problems start at the head, this is just a domino effect. STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHT!!!!

Fella i telling you. Look they going and pay some gospel singer how much money to come and sing gospel songs for those church goers. That is their festival that the government make for them. Millions on creole festival just to say we had it for our 40th. Elections coming up soon and i know every rally will be a huge sewo with popular bands and dj’s etc. meanwhile as a nation we continue to suffer with mediocre infrastructure and the lack of maintenance of everything public. I say let the whole country fall down. Let it go to rubble under these people. When it is all said and done we will pick up the pieces and build it back. Politics and greed is Dominica’s worst disaster. Not Erica, Not Maria.

The post office employees should walk out in protest and the citizens of Dominica should take to the streets in protest and force a useless regime out of office. No money to even do the most basic repairs on public buildings, bridges and roads. But money is splashed out to donate to certain Hotel projects and finance Skerrits expensive world travels. This man and his government need to be shown the door. It’s five to twelve for DA.

Right on point. Your remarks have captured the exact happenings in the country and the malfunctioning of the government. How can one individual get millions from CBI funds to build a hotel resort but so many public buildings, roads and bridges remain in such an awful state of disrepair? Why doesn’t the PM cut back on his exorbitant overseas trips that cost the tax payers hundreds of thousands?
This is the most puzzling question to me. Why do Dominicans at home and abroad see it fit to vote this uncaring, unconcerned misleader and his proven inadequate party back in office again and again and again? Not this time around, they haven’t earned it.

This Skerrit-led government is clueless and most uncaring. No caring government would have its employees working under such deplorable and dangerous conditions. Civil servants are so afraid to lose their jobs that they are willing to sacrifice their health, in this case, their lives. Where is the DPSU? Are you going to stand idly by while your members suffer such indignity and risks to their health and person? Everything in the country is decaying, disintegrating, crumbling, deteriorating , the country is literally falling apart. The ship needs a change of course. Throw the captain and crew overboard with your votes. Enough is enough.

Rename your country “Commonwealth of Resilient”””..
I don’t know what it will take to let Dominicans know that this Skerrit cabal has failed Dominica .
Just before election Skerrit will come as Lord and Savior and working conditions will slightly improve, because he needs you all votes.I know one GPO worker who had a red flag as wide as a bed sheet,on a pole behind his house, and yelling Labar Kar Twavye. He should be drenched everyday by rain.No sympathy for him!!!
    Skerrit Must Go
    Skerrit Must Go
    LAZY Skerrit Must Go Now

This is unacceptable & dangerous. The electric plugs & wires this could become a nightmare really quick. Most times ppl say everything in Dca is politics.. who is responsible for a public institution like post office? No dca person in foreign would want to work in conditions like these. The individual who filmed probably loves his country & the job but not the working conditions Salute to the post men/women who continue to wrk even in dangerous working conditions.. Hoping this could be rectified quickly .

Cool, I vehemently disagree with you when you commend the employees of the post office for working under such nightmarish and life threatening conditions. No human beings should subject themselves to this. The workers should have refused to enter this sickening place of work. Before entering this building, one would have to wear a raincoat and equip oneself with an umbrella, on the inside, to prevent getting soaked with a deluge from the ceiling.
Only in Dominica. Dominica is a unique place.
