Interim injunction granted in St. Kitts barring use of new boundaries pending appeal

gavel2The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court has granted an interim injunction barring any action from being taken on new constituency boundaries, pending an appeal of a High Court ruling on Tuesday.

That ruling by High Court Justice Marlene Carter found that the signing of the proclamation changing boundaries and its subsequent gazetting on January 16th was in order.

    Thank God that there is a court system to keep this Prime Minister in check. Just a pity it could not address the vote of no confidence issue which remained unattended for over 2 years. It is sad that all other regional leaders just turned a blind eye. Guess they all expect the same favor when they engage in wrongdoing.

    Some people are so desperate to maintain- or gain power they resort to gerrymandering.
    If for no other reason I prefer a a system of proportional representation rather than our first-past-the-post one, which we inherited from Westminster, which I deem outdated and can leave a large proportion of the population unrepresented.
