Bishop Fernando Bargallo at a beach in Argentina reportedly with the woman

The pope has accepted the resignation of an Argentine bishop photographed frolicking on a Mexican beach with a woman, one of several personnel changes announced yesterday by the Vatican before the pontiff heads off for summer vacation.

Monsignor Fernando Maria Bargallo, bishop of Merlo-Moreno outside Buenos Aires, initially denied having had any improper relationship with the woman, whom he described as a childhood friend. But the 57-year-old Bargallo later decided to step down under the church rule that lets bishops retire before age 75 if they’re found to be unfit for office.

The Catholic church must go back to the drawing board and review that law. I follow the Catholic doctrine to some extent but that business of priest not getting married has always been a born of contention for me.
The Church could have saved the millions of dollars it paid out for compensation to boys that were abused by priests. Over $500million !!!
    Sa cest largent!

Nothing is hidden nowadays! Today we have to pay Peters Pence every Sunday, and Bishop appeal Fund to get money to fix Cathedral.

The church needs an overhaul. Corruption in the vatican is now public knowledge, so when Bishop know Pope corrupt you think it easy to hold a stand !!!
Allyou not seeing who bishop have by his side? He think he smart, he go right Mexico! People still see. I think is Dominicans alone dat mette vayer!!!!
Catholic church step up and move with the times!!

      @ Come Out clean

Are you a Catholic? Have you ever prayed for the Bishops and Priests as Catholics are expected to do? What has or is your personal lifestyle like? Many of you criticize but your lifestyle has been and is nothing but un-Christian-like and so you are in no position to criticize. If you go through Holy Scriptures especially from Romans to Jude you will note how you have failed God. Conform yourself in every respect to the Will of God and only then you will be able to criticize. I do know that you will never achieve this in your lifetime.

Thank God it is a woman and not a man or a child. He has not broken a commandment of God and the church is not bigger than GOD.

Only God knows. If he really has been frolicking with this woman as is reported, he has broken his vows. It does not reflect well on him. Bishops and Priests are to refrain from such.

The priests have feelings like any man; that’s the way God made them. So, celibacy is just stifling what God has designed.

I agree with you; I’ll take it one step further. Although he may have taken the Oath of Celibacy, I much rather hear that he’s frolicking with a woman, than to be accused of violating innocent young boys. You see how quickly this Bishop is stepping down after being caught with a woman? then why is it that priest who molest young boys are shuffield around from parish to parish and the matter swept under the rug?

This is nothing new. This been going on since catholosiom became a religion. Read some of the history of this religion. They were all at it. Even the pope. They had wives, girlfriends, and children.

What do you know? Catholicism was always a religion.
Think of the numerous men who married women down through the ages to today and who did not honor their vows to the point of having mistresses and outside children. Are you one of those, man or woman? Or did it happen with your parents? Were they married? There are many more people who were married and divorced; some men and women have met their death. Have you overlooked that or pretend that you never heard it or do not remember?

You think temptation easy? Nature made man attracted to woman and the Catholic church wants to deny man his natural tendencies. Pas la.

And this is yet another reason to be against religion: so often, it tries to make the unnatural natural. We are sexual creatures (except for those few of us who are genuinely asexual). Forced celibacy is absurd, unnatural, and the indirect cause of sexual crimes in the church.

There are many natural urges that we resist. If mankind were to give in to every natural urge, we would be no better than the other animals in the jungle.

Samantha I agree with you totally. The bishop, as a man is only doing what is natural!!! The institution
Called church is creating all the problems. That celibacy thing is a joke.

Why is is celibacy forced on anyone? Thay have a choice and going into it knowing full well they have to be celibate – so tell me how is it forced?

If I am not mistaken, according to English Law any contract that requires a person to take this unnatural life position is void.

Just about two years ago there was a similar scan with Father Alberto Cutie (on a beach in Miami with his woman). He eventually left the church and married the woman. This has happened so many times and it’s just so unfortunate.

I’m not going to blast the church and its teachings but if, as a man, you know your fing does always scratch you, then DON’T become a priest! Celibacy is not for any and everyone.

    • Like or Dislike: Thumb up 3 Thumb down 1 Delicious June 27, 2012

@ Reader – taking the Oath of Celibacy does not mean that priests and Nuns don’t HAVE SEXUAL FEELINGS. We were created sexual beings; take a baby boy, for example, after a few months of life they get erections. The male specie often times wake up with an erection. They have a calling to serve in that capacity, and I guess as priests, they are supposed to ignore and/or suppress these feelings and urges that come naturally. Tough one, I surmise.

i agree with the man he fed up with that nonesence .who ever put the rule that a priest should not get married or date or have kids.Is that in the Bible?

1 Corinthians 7: 32 -33 says the unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord but the married man is anxious about the affairs of the world. and therefore his interest is divided.

You cannot be married and be fully involve in the work of the Lord. Thou you may try there will always come a time when you will be caught between the mountain and the rock and you will you choose GOD OR MAN?

    • Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 9 Thumb down 0 NatureBoy June 27, 2012

You’re right – that law is not found in the Bible.
The apostle Peter and the other apostles were married – 1Corinthians 9:5 (At John 1:42, Peter is identified as Cephas), Matthew 8:14.

And 1Timothy 3:2 reads ‘A Bishop (overseer)must be…the husband of one wife)’. Not that he MUST be married, but he can be married if he wants to, but then must only have ONE wife if he does marry.

Religions that don’t stick by the Bible give the Bible and religion a bad name. God will hold them accountable for this.

    • Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0 krumb June 28, 2012

1 Timothy 3:2 of course not…a bishop must have a good reputation. He must have only one wife, be sober, use good judgment, be respectable, be hospitable, and be able to teach.

    • Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0 Kali June 28, 2012

@ the voice you are correct, nothing in the Bible forbids the Catholic clergy from marrying. For that matter, much of the doctrine of the Catholic church is not found in the Bible, but I digress.

In the early days, priests and other clergy men were allowed to marry, but their actions caused concern for a variety of reasons, ranging from adultery to accusations of using Church funds to support their families. In the mid 11th century, it was decreed that clergy men should be celibate. It was largely a political move, but hey, it stuck. Read up on the history of the church, it’s all in there.
