Commonwealth Secretary-General Designate, Baroness Patricia Scotland has told The Royal Commonwealth Society that she wants to put the “wealth” back into The Commonwealth, through collaboration and working in partnership to tackle corruption, gender inequality and violence against women.

The Baroness says it will be one of her greatest priorities to collaborate across the 53 nations to end corruption in the Commonwealth:

“We didn’t understand how big it was, how much it corroded our democracy and undermined what we wanted to do. I think now all of us understand it’s non- negotiable, we have to address it together.”

The Baroness also acknowledged the work that The Royal Commonwealth Society has done in promoting gender equality and raising awareness of violence against women and says she is looking forward to working in partnerships to tackle these challenges:

“When I look at all the things I’ve been able to achieve in the past, it has always been in collaboration with others; an important partner is civil society.”

Baroness Scotland is committed to seeing the Commonwealth grow and to strengthen:

“I’m saying to everyone, please don’t leave, stay and fight and make our world the world we want for our children, as opposed to the world we have now.”

The first Secretary-General says she is thrilled about the representation of women at high levels in the Commonwealth and is honoured to be the first female Secretary General for the Commonwealth family.

“I’m the first Secretary-General who’s a woman, but I certainly hope I won’t be the last.”

If she is really serious about ending corruption, I think she should start by resigning from this position.

What is the agenda of this new Commonwealth secretary general? She was only elected this past week and the ink on the paper she signed to take up her new post is barely dried yet and her first priority is to help buttress the gay and lesbian cause. Instead of giving a speech to thank the people and member states who helped her on her way she is going on about something which has very little interest in the Commonwealth. The Homosexual lobby have hijacked the agenda to serve their own purpose. They do not care about the Commonwealth or what it purports to do for it’s over 1 billion citizens.

The Commonwealth secretary general have been elected to serve and to look after the interests of the people of this ancient dinosaur. She should not allow nor be making statements and pronouncements which seem to favour the rights of only a few. The Homosexual lobby in the UK is very powerful. Whatever the gays wants the gays gets. Although they were not the ones who voted her into her new…

Lady, come to your country of birth and you find rich pickings there. But than again I doubt you’ll bite the hand that feeds you. Lip service at its best, nothing is gonna change unless we change the status quo ourselves!

I have always held that Patricia Scotland is first and foremost British, she is a peer of the Realm no less, Baroness Scotland a member of the House of Lords! That is her choice and nothing wrong with that but it does mean that the U.K. got their candidate for this prestigious post after all.

She really is because she was brought up in England and obviously has a British accent. However, having been born in Dominica, she has ties to Dominica be it on a small scale.
I heard her father had returned to Dominica and she visited there when he was ailing.
She must have also got a lot of support from UK and from other countries.
The PM did well in nominating her. Were it not primarily for him, she would not be Commonwealth SG. She agreed to be a nominee. I am certain she appreciated it.

Hey, hey, hey! Look what I see….. This lady’s got some balls!!! Hear what she said: “Commonwealth Secretary-General Designate, Baroness Patricia Scotland has told The Royal Commonwealth Society that she wants to put the “wealth” back into The Commonwealth, through collaboration and working in partnership to tackle corruption, gender inequality and violence against women.” So, she said she is going to work in “PARTNERSHIP TO TACKLE CORRUPTION” etc., But she failed to say with whom she will be partnering. Does that make any sense at all? Look out for more COVER-UPS.

I’m very proud to know that there are person in Dominica or in the diaspora who really look at the facts and comment on that instead of braking down someone else. The good lady have the education and is well qualified for the position but one cant help but wonder why would she leave the top job she have in Government in London England to be come the Secretary General .
I hope she will start with Dominica on the investigation into corruption because we deep in it for sure.

Again DNO You and your cohorts will always be holding the donkey tail. You quickly published your sentiment about corruption in DA. is there corruption when LL could call boycott or demonstrate at anytime? Why was LL not arrested when he tried to smuggle illegal good out. Is there corruption when LL went overseas and distasteful lambasted Dominicans. Is there corruption when OUR beloved PM nominated one of his own who is overwhelming qualified? Is there corruption when you have called for the over throw , munity or boots on the ground? Is there corruption when the airport instruments in Marigot was burned down.? We the abiding citizens have had enough. Mr. PM our country is under siege by a few hoodlums. Stop the corruption PM by cleaning Q 95.

I would respectfully suggest she starts by investigating and report what happened to the £500,000 gift to the Govt. of Dominica she brought with her when she signed, on behalf of the U.K. government the Agreement of the Transfer of Prisoners in Roseau, in May 2006 with Hon. Ian Douglas, our A.G. at the time:
    – why was a it necessary to bring that amount of money, if it was not an inducement for acquiescence by the U.K. government?
    – how was the money accounted for?

Enslaved again and again and again. From chattel slavery to mental slavery. The chains have entwined the minds of many, many, many. How sad. It’s that new colonial psyche. a new kind of Slavery that have people like Zombies.

The former colonial countries continue to divide and rule. They would not allow CARICOM, the Caribbean to speak with one voice and to decide unanimously on the one candidate of choice. Poor Dominica was used big time. The UK could not nominate Scotland as their UK rep. ,given that she has ‘Dominant British nationality.’ Through the back door, laughing at Caribbean division.

Privy Council in UK. Scotland former UK Attorney General who must have worked with Privy Council. members. Remember the excuse for joining CCJ.

Skerritt win what????? Remember the famous BVI case with David Hsui, Felix Chen and Skerritt as witness? Remember, DLP boasting Skerritt win? Bombshell!!! US$20 million gone? NG Lap Seng known then?

    Time will tell.

And exactly how does she intend to end corruption? She is asking people who stand to gain from corrupt practices to give up what they would get through corruption. What is she giving them in return for reduced corruption?

Corrupt people know they are doing wrong, yet they do it anyway. Moral suasion will not do it because in the end, they have nothing to gain from that. You don’t have to convince honest people that corruption is bad because they get into politics to serve. The same cannot be said of people who enter politics for reasons of personal gain.

Are you really saying that corruption is the norm in Dominica? If that’s your sentiment I am calling for a vote of no confidence in the Administration! Is there still a psychiatric ward in DA? Where all the UWP belong! All the name calling on Q95 and illegal demonstration you guys are getting away with? Where in the world such despicable behavior is accepted? Apparently, You are more LOCO than first anticipated. A few days ago tanto called for a demonstration! DNO, literally took pride in putting a single person up against a wall to get a single picture of a demonstrator disrespecting a WOMAN, house speaker! How can you call for investigation when your are disrespecting your MAMA! Captain CROOK examine your horns. May God continue to guide and bless our PM. Support your own, she is well qualified to handle her job, she has degrees and you are a high school drop out. She don’t need you advice.

I wish her every success in this: she certainly isn’t shying away from a daunting challenge. Fighting this in many of the larger Commonwealth countries will require as much cultural change as legal change, so it will be difficult, but worth it to attempt.

Wow, she is on a campaign to end corruption in the commonwealth eh? According to her corruption takes bread away from the people, and therefore she wants to bring back bread by tackling corruption, gender inequality and violence against women. very bold statement I must say eh.

I guess as a Caribbean person she should start her campaign against the corruption within the Caribbean, and to ensure she gets MAXIMUM success, she should seek advice from Prime Minister Skerrit, since he is a very clean man, with no trace of corruption whatsoever, and like Ms. Scottlan he hates corruption because he understands corruption takes money from the people

Lady your are truly a professional person. The clouds of yesterday are gone and you are looking towards the future by stating your goals and aspiration. As a nation let us forget the past and look towards the future. Ms. Scotland is in the position to help her native birth place. The innuendoes of the government is absurd and unproven don’t ask her to investigate that is pure nonsense. The fight now is for the women, children and elderly who are being abuse. Enough dirt has already been spread regarding the character of Ms. Pattie. Her sin is PM Skeritte. she sailed wonderfully through the storm, words hurt, Ms. Patty we the people of St. Joe embrace you from the beginning.

Good and correct focus . You must help the fledging anti-corruption initiatives by governments and non- govt organisations within the Commonwealth to fight corruption at all levels. IMPROVED ANTI-CORRUPTION LAWS ARE NEEDED. EXISTING LAWS MUST BE IMPLEMENTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT. Everybody, including the President and the Speaker must comply with the law.
