Man deported after living in USA for 30 Years

(CNN) Jorge Garcia was born in Mexico City 39 years ago.

Garcia said when he was 10, his aunt brought him — without documentation — to the United States, where he grew up, married an American and raised kids — a daughter, now 15, and a son, 12 — in the Midwest. Then, on Monday, he got deported.
Cindy Garcia Jorge’s wife was understandably upset and frustrated, “These laws need to be changed,” she told CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “They need a pathway to citizenship. I also believe that they need to look at each individual case separately, not as a group, because like in my husband’s case, he is not a criminal and yet we are suffering, and I am a US citizen.”

Sadly it cost money to file for love ones. We don’t know the circumstances but there could be many reasons that prevented this family from filing. The process of filing is very easy ( have done it numerous times) but for some it may be look difficult.

You know most of us Dominicans talk trash because we want to be heard!

What amount of money do you think it cost to apply for citizenship in America. When I apply for my citizenship; it cost me less than a hundred dollars. I went to the Immigration office in Los Angeles, and got the forms,  fill them out myself, sign my name and submit the form along with $65.00 that was about thirty years ago.

In 2017/18 it is less than five hundred five hundred dollars; if somebody lives in America and do not have at least a thousand dollars to to their name they deserve to be deported!

There is something missing in this story as to the real reason that he is being deported.

  3. January 18, 2018

They were just waiting for him to get deported. He did not mention if he made any attempts to get legal status after all he is married to a US Citizen.

Thi’s doesn’t make any sense. If you are illegal and got married to a US citizen the spouse should have file for you. Unless you only got married recently. Spouses can get temporary papers in as little as 6 months if married to a citizen while their green card is being process. There is certainly more to the story. He maybe had issues with the law.

The man was brought here as a child. It’s not his fault. And on top of that he was paying taxes, probably more taxes than some Americans do. He was a beneficiary to America

Despite his wife being a citizen he can’t apply because he came in illegally; he had no port of entry. Yes, we have individuals who ‘got married for papers’. However, they entered the country legally and have the documents to prove it, visa, I-94, passport etc. On another article I read, deportation proceedings started against him when his wife filed for citizenship and he did not have the necessary paperwork. No criminal issues, he wasn’t arrested, he doesn’t have a record, he just didn’t have the paperwork and came in illegally.

If anyone should be blamed for what has happened to this man is himself. Their are numerous of ways the man could be legal in the US. For instance, why didn’t he marry a citizen of the US.

Roy you are always off the rock, didn’t read that the man wife and children are American born?

If this man committed a crime and that is why he was deported, you can bet your dollar CNN will never let us know.Under Obama’s 8 yrs are you saying no one was deported without committing a crime? But that would not be news worthy. But Trump yes.Do you know Obama deported more people in 2016 than Trump in 2017?
I could be wrong, but I don’t believe that this man is in the U.S
for so long, his wife and children are all citizens and you don’t even have a green card? It could be this man has some bad record, that’s why he don’t care to apply for one

Please stop with your assumptions an assumption is not a fact it is just an opinion.
I have resided in the US for 30 years and I never knew that CNN tells anyone who and when anyone gets deported unless it is major news. Please stop spreading false information.
You do not even know the man let alone should you know if he is in the US or not? How do you know the man’s circumstances? and how can you speculate the purpose that his wife never processed his papers?
I cannot stand all this WHO DONE IT MENTALITY.
You are a part of the problem with your FAKE NEWS.
Come on I want to read some factual information not your opinion that has no basis.
By the way we share the same last name. FYI

It makes sense to ask why did not the man after such a long time apply for and become a citizen.

It appears that the problem is, to go from temporary protection under DACA to citizenship is
extremely difficult for the vast majority of DACA residents.

From what I have read, DACA recipients cannot apply for US citizenship because they can’t become permanent residents. They do not have a path to permanent residency because they don’t qualify for that, let alone citizenship. It is not as simple as them not applying for citizenship. They have to qualify first and most of them do not. Otherwise, they would have applied long ago!
It’s complicated as are so many laws regarding immigration.

    • Dan the American
      January 17, 2018

It’s unfortunate none of these DACA people can fill out the appropriate documentation, send it to their relatives in their ‘home’ countries, have their relatives send it all back, and wait for their legal papers to come through.

If you think that is how the American system works it is safe to say that you are not residing here. As a US citizen I can tell you that it is not that simple ok.

  11. January 17, 2018

Yes there are more to follow, those are over seas and forget there mother, father and the rest , don’t even send a barrel, or a few dollars for x mas there time is comeing, then they will want to stay with aunty so and so cus they don’t have pot to piss in, but while they in Amerikka playing saka boy. I know a few but immigration will get them soon. the amnesty program was available but they was to busy, and to proud, missed opptunity come home and plant dasheen.

This is a classic case of application of Darwin’s theory of evolution. The idiot has been living in the US for 30 years, marries a US citizen, has children and his status is still an undocumented immigrant? That is one time I support Trump in cleaning the country of idiots. That man did not deserve to be living in the States. He is too stupid.

    • Dan the American
      January 17, 2018

What about all the other stupid people who live here?
What are we going to do with them?

      • Cathy
        January 17, 2018

        Dan the American
That is a very insensitive statement you just made. I am amazed that you would refer to people that you do not know or interact with as stupid. That does not say much about you. Have you ever hear the saying when you point one finger at somebody else you have four more pointing at you?
Come do the right thing by being respectful to each other.

      January 17, 2018

      Zandoli
You do not know the man’s situation and what transpired prior to him marrying a US citizen. There is no guarantee that because you marry a US citizen that you can get a green card. Personally I know several people who resides in the States are in the same situation whereby they attempted to get married before and went to INS and were denied and facing deportation and they remarried but were not successful because of their prior situation.
Everything is not always black and white especially in the States.
I do not know anyone who lives in the US and wants to remain undocumented because as a High school teacher in the US I see my students struggle and are afraid because they and their parents are undocumented and they may not go to college or they may get deported.
So I learn from my father unless you walk a mile in someone’s shoes you will not know or understand their struggle.
I say that to say let us show empathy let us focus on the positive and wish people well.

The situation may seem sad, but when people do not take care of business, such are likely to happen to them. With the knowledge his aunt brought him here illegal at age ten, he could have done something when he became a man to change his status.

Over the past thirty years; Amnesty was granted to millions of people he could have applied and got amnesty, when he married to his American born wife all he had to do was have her file for his permanent residency, by which he could have obtained a green card, and by now he could have become a citizen!

When we do not do the right thing, we  suffer the consequences!

    • Believer
      January 17, 2018

I see your point Mr. Telemaque, but when Amnesty was granted it did not cover DACA people, otherwise, they would all have applied… it’s complicated

      • Dan the American
        January 17, 2018

        It’s not THAT complicated.

I know a guy living and working here illegally. He got married to an American and had a couple of kids. At any point along the way he could have started the process of becoming naturalized and legal.

His wife fled for divorce. He was concerned he might be deported and wouldn’t be able to see his children. He asked the dozen friends he has here, who are all from the same country, and are all naturalized citizens, what to do. EVERYBODY told him to go to a lawyer and become a citizen.

The lawyer told him the county wanted him paying child support so he wouldn’t be deported.

        Now he doesn’t care again.

      • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque

I am not sure  if the term DACA was used until President Obama tenure, if the majority are less than thirty years old maybe they were not even born then; so they could not have benefited from Reagan’s amnesty program.

It was around 1983 or there about, more than 36 years ago the late president Ronald Reagan granted amnesty to millions of people Maybe some of them were not yet born!

And as in many cases there are many people who did not apply for amnesty, because they fear it was a trick to have caught and deported!

Believe it or not I know people from Wesley, at lease one guy I met in Brooklyn New York about eight years ago, his mother is a citizen of the United States, however, this guy did not have a green card when I met him. There are lot’s of irresponsible people like him all over the place. Tell you what rather than him looking after his business

He arguing with about his government, Skerrit in Dominica

    • January 17, 2018

But again why his us wife did not help him legalize his status?

      • Emerald
        January 17, 2018

His wife couldn’t petition for him because he came in the country illegally and he did not have a port of entry. You need a port of entry to have someone petition for you.

    • glenn
      January 17, 2018

That would have been ideal in a perfect situation
Again all the speculations. You do not know the person situation it may be more complicated that filling for amnesty or marring a US citizen
We never know what someone situation is we always think simplicity but it may not be

  14. Dan the American
    January 17, 2018

There IS a pathway to citizenship. All sorts of nationalities in this country use it everyday. That’s how people become Americans.

This guy didn’t bother himself to apply for citizenship for 30 years and got deported. I don’t have any pity for him.

  15. Observer of returnies
    January 17, 2018

there are a few in DA too. Their presence are general knowledge. Some were deported others returned voluntarily as they say in the USA self deported. As they were being sort. Some used lookalike relatives documents to escape the law. There are more to follow.

    • Delices
      January 20, 2018

You also know that there are people in DA that do not wish to leave in the US. My family is a perfect example. Brothers and mother have green card and still leave in DA. So don’t be quick to judge who was deported or not unless you know the inside story.
