The host of the Miss Universe has apologised after mistakenly naming the wrong woman as winner, leaving Miss Colombia empty-handed.
After the error, Ariadna Gutierrez was instead declared runner-up and surrendered her crown to Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
#MissUniverse2015 became Twitter’s biggest trend of the night as social media users expressed their disbelief.
Ms Wurtzbach has since told reporters that she wishes Ms Gutierrez well.
“I’m very sorry, I did not take the crown away from her and I wish her well in whatever she wants to pursue after this pageant,” she said.
Ms Gutierrez also addressed fans in a backstage video that has been shared on the pageant’s official page.
The world is abuzz! What a shock to the world. This is the first time I have known this to happen. Was this man intoxicated or asleep?

The trend these days. firstly i think its an unfortunate mistake, nonethless an embrassment to the Host, i think he had a senior moment. Alex told us earlier during the almost same incident during our R.C. U. show, so its the new trend, lets move on. In my opinion, I would declear both winners.

Obviously he failed to read the damn information on the card.. It was like a nightmare to bith girls and embarrassing especially to miss Columbia. What an aweful way to end the show.. Thats Steve’s problem he talks too much
First of all I always thought that those shows happened in the summer months–I hope that I have not been sleeping for that long.
Now I do not understand how Steve Harvey could mistake a word which starts with an (F) for one which starts with a (C) with the pronunciation being so different–did he not have to read that announcement from the envelope which he was holding?
How could he make such a dreadful mistake? Just look at the real Miss Universe walking back to the stage with her hand covering her face as if she was seeing the devil–this is an awful way to end a show like the Miss Universe show

I agree with you it should not have happened because Steve is good at his stuff, but I knew something was wrong because he didn’t say who was the Ist Runner Up he only said the second runner up USA , my bet was on the currant Miss Universe Pia Alonzo . Any way the mistake was corrected and the sadness will blow over in time.
They announce it like that sometimes, if they call one you can assume who is the other
