North Carolina passes ban on gay marriage

Voters in North Carolina on Tuesday approved Amendment One, a fiercely debated and highly restrictive amendment to the state constitution that defines marriage as the legal union of a man and a woman.

The amendment not only outlaws same-sex marriage — already illegal in the state — but bans civil unions and domestic partnerships for gay or straight couples. Family law experts say it will threaten domestic partnership health benefits for local government workers and strip unmarried couples, both gay and straight, of their rights to make financial or emergency medical decisions for an incapacitated partner.

Those who push a gay agenda accuse Bible believing Christians and other people of faith who oppose their vile lifestyle of being narrow minded biggots. So when I hear a howl of protest going up because they have lost a round in some country or state that refused to decriminalize buggery or legalize same sex marriage I rush in to see what happened. What I usually find is that whatever anti-gay decision was made was based upon a fair and square democratic vote. The people have spoken! On the contrary I have found places where militant homosexual lobby groups have worked long and hard enough to influence governments and have won victories. But when this has happened so far what I`ve seen is that the decision was made by liberal left wing governments over ruling the wishes of the majority and a true democratic process was not followed. Some of my readers may know of places where this was not the case. I don`t yet have the full international picture. But I thank God for God fearing people who have spoken out at the pollst and cast their vote in favour of righteousness! And I praise God for polititians who understand the issue and have the strength of character not to be intimidated by the subculture of Sodom and Gomorrah. For those who are honest and have the objectivity to to be guided by the truth the facts about homosexuality are available. I will continue to recommend that everybody, especially those at the decision making levels of government, read the book HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE POLITICS OF TRUTH by Dr. Jeffrey Satinover, M.D. Dr. Satinover has practiced psychiatry for over 20 years. He has taught in Yale University and Harvard University. This book can be ordered from AMAZON, the world`s largest online bookseller. Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

It truly is hard to imagine greater idiocy. Not only is homophobia intellectually unsustainable and foolish, but you claim to “love” the president (do you know any of his policies, or do you just vaguely like him for some vague reason) and yet you would vote for Mitt Romney instead of Obama. Mitt Romney, who has yet to show himself qualified for the presidency. Well, I sincerely hope you find yourself unable to vote on voting day, since unthinking overly emotional morons should not be allowed within a mile of any voting booth.

What an utterly moronic statement. You would vote for a man utterly divorced from the reality of the poor and middle-classes, Mitt Romney, merely because his opponent supports gay marriage? Where is the political sophistication? Are we really this emotional and stupid in d/a?

my sweet dominica…… may be you write too fast.Obama just cleared the air on ABC news in an interview by saying
I believe man should marry man and a woman should have the right to marry a woman.
Saturday august 16th 2008 candidate Obama was asked this question by pastor Rick Warren.
“Do you believe in same sex marriage?”
He said, marriage is between a man and a woman. After he became president he said I am evolving.

FYI I am in N.C. this very minute. And the comments I am reading are by far the most ignorant I have seen since the girl in Pointe Michell vomited creatures. Go back and read the news again, Obama supports Gay marriage and has very close Gay friends and family and in his admin.FYI N.C. is full of racists and Homophobics. The same group of people that would have kept Obama in Slavery! Oh and did I mention the hanging tree down the street? Trust me!

@??????, I’m not sure if you’re aware or not but, when you log onto the Internet it is the world wide web. Nothing wrong in DNO reporting news from NC. I’m Dominican and reside in NC. There isn’t that much news going in DA to keep the website entertained every day. In order to prevent repetitive stories, DNO does have to venture out. I’m so sick and tired of the small-minded people and their comments.

    BREAKING NEWS

President Obama endorsed the right of same-sex couples to marry on Wednesday, a landmark pronouncement made in light of mounting pressure from gay right advocates.

Obama became the first U.S. president to back the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry, a reversal from his own views as stated in the 2008 campaign, when he said he opposed same-sex marriage but favored civil unions as an alternative.

Obama told ABC News that, after reflection, he had “concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

Obama does not support gay marriage , he said that he believes that marriage should and will be between a man and a woman , but he thinks that if you choose love who you ever same sex or not then you should have the right for the two of you to make personal decisions like , who you list as your next of keen , bank accounts , emergency , etc. i Personal do not support gay marriage , i think it’s really agaist the word of god and the whole cycle of life period.

Yes same-sex marriage was already illegal in N.C.What they voted for yesterday was to define marriage as ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN

Every state which had the opportunity to vote on this issue, always vote against same sex marriage.
In California twice the people voted and made it abundantly clear in 2006 and 2010 they do not want this abomination to be legalized in their state. But A few judges and the DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR Jerry.Brown imposed it on them.
Here in New Jersey the democratic led senate, is at war with governor Chris Christie. He said let the people decide. The democrats said no, just impose it on them.Of course they fear the citizens of N.J might vote no.

Do you really think that if we always allow the majority to decide for the minority, the minority well ever get what they want?

Black, minority, would we have gotten to where we are today if the majority had to collectively decide for us?

Let the Gays Marry and live there lives! You are living yours aren’t you?

It’s obvious that none of you read the full article.

Same-sex marriage was already illegal in NC. What the amendment did was ban civil partnerships and common law relationships for gay AND straight couples.

The repercussions of this amendment will be far-reaching and will affect heterosexual couples and their gay counterparts. So please, don’t be so quick to rejoice because another battle has been won against the gay community.

I’ll say this… I chose to comment on this article not because I’m gay (I’m actually not :D ) or an activist, but because the owners of the previous comments and most certainly the constituents of NC suffer from the same “I don’t wanna read” syndrome. Both groups failed to read the finer details of this amendment.

God don’t bless north carolina who still say its legal to marry your first cousin. It’s funny how so many uninformed Dominicans will say I support Obama but have no idea what democratic issues he supports like gay marriage. BTW I have no problems with.
