Collapsed road in Alaskan earthquake already fixed

Alaskan road before and after 7.0 earthquake, this pic went viral on social media showing that the road was fully repaired just 4 days after collapse.

Alaskan road crews are the envy of folks in the lower 48 (term for the  continental contiguous United States)  because of their lightning fast repair of a road that was ripped apart by Friday’s 7.0-magnitude earthquake according to a CNN report.

Before and after photos shared on Facebook on Tuesday showed just how quickly The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities was able to respond.

All that work took less than four days.
The post went viral as people all over the country wondered why their cities and states can’t fix the “blankety-blank-blank” potholes on their streets.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities says it’s harder to pave roads at this time of year because of the cold temperatures, but they can do it.

Okay; Miss/Mr. Wallace: Note Alaska is the Northern most in the United States, and has the most easterly longitude in the United States because the Aleutian islands extend into the Eastern Hemisphere.

Take it for granted; Alaska is the only non-contiguous U.S State on Continental North America It is located approximately five (500) miles off British Columbia, separating Alaska from the State of Washington. Now the State of Washington boarders British Columbia Canada.

If I want to go there right now to Alaska, all I have to do is get on Interstate five (I-5) head north for 2.5 days connect to the Canadian number 90 at the boarder of Washington State and Canada, and go to  Dawson Creek, connect with Highway 97 and head to Alaska you see!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

For what ever this is worth, hope I am not a pest eh!

Those people realized that this is the road to the airport so we need to get it open ASAP, no messing. How many locals would do the same? And say right let me go and help instead of sitting on their …. and saying “boy me nah go help unless me get $100 a day” or something like that. Its your island your community you are the ones who have to live, eat, drink and breath it.

Meanwhile, in Dominica, roads collapsed in 2015 and are yet to be repaired. that one road to the Roseau Valley i am waiting to finish fall down. the canefield cliff has more to cone down also. Do many areas that have been ignored. To fix a bloody pothole they have to wait for it to reach a certain size first, otherwise they say it is too small. we pay our road maintenance tax, why dont our roads get fixed? Independence pass, notice they stop focus on resurfacing. all the rushing to fix this and that has stopped.

Wow. If Dominica or for that matter, any Caribbean country can fix half of the damage that Alaska experienced l would eat my head with my hat on it. No Sir, the picture that shows Alaska fixed their road in three days is “Fake News.” There is much more roads to be repaired as of today. I flew over the damage area on Tuesday and there is so much to be done despite the money and manpower the country has. Now, Do we expect Dominica to rebuild their country in three days after a devastating earth quake like what Alaska experienced? Give me a break.

There’s something called contingency planning. It means you sit and plan for various scenarios and allocate resources to respond to these situations. While financial resources are part of the equation, it’s not the end all cure all. We run disaster drills at work twice monthly like clockwork, without one added penny of expenditure. While road construction and engineering is somewhat different, the same can be done with contingency planning as well. What’s needed is pragmatic leadership and detailed planning.

Notice they didn’t put a bypass and then years later put a bypass for the bypass. Smart governments plan for disasters big or small despite the odds of it happening.

What I’ve come to realize in most of the Caribbean countries, more particularly Dominica, the ruling administrations are not people oriented, they are more about holding on to the reigns of power to amass as much earthly riches as possible, to set themselves financially for the rest of their lives. To accomplish this, they engage in corruption for no one can become supremely rich from a civil servant salary. While many go hungry and desperate, the politicians enjoy the fruits of their corrupt practices. Every critic of their lavished lifestyle and insatiable greed they see as a threat, and they use the resources of the State to crush them. Corruption takes a heavy toll on the country’s finances. So, the country’s infrastructure suffers, the people’s wages remain stagnant while taxes increase to make up for the shortfall in revenue. If you dare to protest, the court or the military might of the State is used to silence you. People need to wise up, stop giving any party blind…

We are comparing the resources of a continent sized country with our little island………….

      December 6, 2018

If we cut off all the waste and corruption, you would be surprised how much we can accomplish. You need not look to far. There are many Caribbean islands that are doing just fine with the little that they have.

        December 6, 2018

Absolutely spot on, zandoli. This has nothing to do with rich and poor but all to do with the effective, efficient and honest management of government. Rampant corruption and greed is the albatross of these governments, especially in Dominica, the most underdeveloped state in the sub region. Look at Skerrit’s assets before he got into government and compare them to present. How can a civil servant lawfully accumulate such massive wealth from his wages? I have never seen a rotten rich civil servant unless he inherited his wealth from a family member or he is engaged in several other business enterprises. Let’s not forget the garbage bins and fertilizer scandals, no bid public contracts, selling of passports with no transparency or accountability. Naked corruption and bad governance have Dominica in this underdeveloped state.

So is anybody going to suggest that the road was built in three days that’s why it collapsed? Easy come easy go easy come back. So Alaska has potholes?

Alaska is on the American Continent; it is a state within the United States of America; it is America, just like New York, or California!

The State have its own money to be taken out of the local Treasury, or the Federal Treasury.

The State Government of Alaska, is not looking for handouts from outside of the United States from any nation, or people contributing money in nickle and dimes; nor do the State Government of Alaska have to sell passports to get money to reconstruct any damage in that State!

    • December 8, 2018

Sorry Francisco Alaska is not a state within the USA there is a difference New York & California is in the USA but Alaska is not Alaska is off the main land like Puerto Rico know your facts before you talk you don’t know a thing about Alaska and also look well have seen a mountain close by or a river there are no big stones like the ones we have here just pure gumbo soil pure dirt so please don’t compare. also know your facts Alaska is not a state in the USA it is a state off the USA in meaning connected to off meaning
not attached to the mainland thank you.

        December 9, 2018

Really Wallace? You typed all this gibberish to explain nothing? Francisco is right to state that Alaska is within the USA, meaning it is part of the Union. There is nothing wrong with that statement, and most who read his statement understood what he meant. Of course, there are always those who will contradict for the sole purpose of peddling their alleged superior intellect. Go sell elsewhere Sir, we’re not buying. today.

        December 9, 2018

Wallace I can drive to Alaska from Los Angeles where I live; whereas I cannot drive to Puerto Rico! Getting to Alaska, by driving can be challenging if you are not prepared!

I would have to drive at least two and a half days North to British Columbia Canada, and cross the boarder into Canada, and get on Highway 97, which would take me back into the United States: So right here that tells me that somewhere geographically, Alaska is connected to the mainland of America.

Because Alaska is so large the roads do not necessary connect, if you are not careful one could well end up in Russia, because Alaska is boarded with Russia!

Guy if is one thing I do not do: debate a matter if I do not know what I am talking about. Alaska have Senate representative in the United States congress, whereas Puerto Rico do not.

The reason is Alaska is a State, Puerto Rico is basically a colony! Alaska is within the United States!

3rd world countries, their economic situation, how do you/we contribute?

      • zandoli
        December 6, 2018

It is not always a matter of how we contribute. This government wastes a lot of money on white elephants and can’t or is unwilling to do what is necessary to move the country forward. Perhaps it is just fresh eyes looking at the country. But I have seen many instances where with little effort the roads can be fixed and year in year out we see poor road conditions and it seems as though the people in charge who drive on those roads ignore the poor condition of the roads. In the meantime, they have spent millions on a coffee processing plant, an abattoir, a thermal energy generator which is yet to come on stream, and the list goes on.

@Zandoli… Sensible response, eye opening. I like the part of ‘fresh eyes looking at the country’ my sentiments exactly, I just wish we had a smart electorate…..but then again, a ‘smart’ electorate gave the U.S Trump….oh boy

I do not even know why you ask a question like that?

Have you read anywhere in any Newspaper, or on Television where the people and government are begging for handouts.

Could it be that you simply want to be heard?

There are people from Dominica living in Alaska; anyone called Dominica begging you and Roosevelt for help? If you believe I don’t know Dominicans resides in Alaska there are people from Marigot living their; I do not know if a relative of mine still lives there, but as far as I know he was a senator in the UWP government, joined the military and believe to be stationed  their!
