Damaging wind gusts, a fresh doping controversy and the robbery of a visiting government minister presented the Rio Games with a perfect storm of problems on Sunday, forcing organizers to scramble to keep the world’s biggest sporting event rolling on.

Winds wreaked havoc on the second full day of competition, forcing the cancellation of rowing races and delays to tennis and kayaking, while spectators ran for cover from flying signs, cafe umbrellas and other debris torn from their moorings.

Games organizers, who were already looking to fix the long queues at security checkpoints that marred the first day, also faced new security scares. Portugal’s education minister was robbed at knifepoint on Saturday at the Olympic lake. He escaped unharmed and the assailant was arrested, Brazilian authorities said.

It is astonishing to see how the interest in the Olympics and the support for the games has increased in recent years. Or is it only my perspective?

What is not just my perspective is how doping has become a pox on the Olympics, and is abhorred by all who love the games. In recent years there has been the scandal of nations offering substantial bribes to members of the Olympic Committee to get the games for their countries. Now robbery, even VIP robbery, leaves us hoping this is not a new Olympic trend.

Apart from the pure spectator pleasure enjoyed by millions one thing is sure. Money and the desire for financial gain drives the Olympics. It is not a bad thing that people can make money doing what they enjoy and brings pleasure to so many people world wide. But when it becomes an obsession taking the hearts of the people away from something of greater value it can become a disaster.

      Continuation:

Just before the ancient Roman Empire collapsed due to its own internal corruption it reach the peak of its
obsession with sports. The “games” occupied a place of importance that was rarely seen in the ancient world. People lived for money and pleasure. Few had any concern for eternal things. So it is today.

Don’t forget Jesus Christ is coming. Now is the time to get SAVED! Be ready to meet Him so you will not be left behind. 1 Thessalonians 4: 16-17. Only those who have BELIEVED in Him, and RECEIVED Him as their Savior will be taken. “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.” (Matthew 24:21)

      Please read: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 1:16, John 1:11,12, Revelation 3:20.

Aylas!! Poor Brazil….They really were not ready to host a sporting event of this magnitude, truth be told. The Olympic Committee was just trying to pump a little money into the economy.

One of the poorest nations of earth, all volehs trying their luck….smh.

Actually reports have shown that most host nations do not benefit financially from hosting the Olympics or World Cup.

Really? So what about the trickle down effects such as the rise in hotel occupancy, food vendors etc?

      Brazil :!:

People in the dumps looking for something they can sell or trade for food.

Homeless near naked children in the streets being abused.

      Witchcraft, spiritualism, and occultism everywhere.

“Churches” with a form of godliness but without God’s power to deliver, set people free, and change lives.

And now – Oh my – Brazil is being honored with the Olympics.

What Brazil needs is the gospel: the saving grace and healing power of Jesus Christ; evangelists who preach the gospel, cast out demons, and pray for sick.

We have not forgot you Brazil.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
