Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has commended Russia for its efforts in negotiating a ceasefire in the Syria, which is presently in the grip of a five-year civil war.

During a meeting with the Ambassador of the Russia Federation to Dominica, Vladimir Nikolaevich Vinokurov, on Thursday, Skerrit said he hopes the cease sustain itself and he recognizes the efforts of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I wish to express our gratitude to your President and your country for negotiating the ceasefire in Syria,” he said. “We do hope the ceasefire will sustain itself and that the nation of Syria can settle down and this place can be settled and become prosperous again.”

The Prime Minister gave the assurance of Dominica’s solidarity with Russia.

“As I said on our bilateral relations, rest assured of our continued solidarity with the Russian Federation, the Government of Russia. Whatever we can do to work on mutually beneficial matters in the international arena, Dominica is more than willing to cooperate in those matters,” Skerrit said.

The ceasefire was hammered between Russia and the US in a bid to halt the violence between the Syrian regime and rebel forces and to bring humanitarian relief to those in need. However, it does not cover militant groups considered terrorists, such as ISIS and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly known as al Nusra Front.

The ceasefire came in effect on September 12, but both Russia and the US, who support opposing sides in the conflict, have accused each other of violating it.

According to one estimate, the Syrian civil war has killed 430,000 people and touched off an unprecedented international refugee crisis.

There is nothing wrong in supporting peace and since the PM was having a meeting with Russian Ambassador, it was also ok to praise Putin for his efforts. Solidarity in this sense may be taken as camaraderie so that too is ok.
Now this is where the problem lies. “As I said on our bilateral relations, rest assured of our continued solidarity with the Russian Federation, the Government of Russia. Whatever we can do to work on mutually beneficial matters in the international arena, Dominica is more than willing to cooperate in those matters,” Skerrit said.
What are our bilateral relations? What do we trade with Russia? What benefits ..direct or indirect do we receive from Russia? How much is Dominica willing to cooperate with Russia?
This is where I disagree! If for any reason the sale of passports to Russian citizens is forthcoming and the United States and Russia grow into deeper conflict, we may very well be on the black list!

And if we continue to be on the blacklist with American and Canadian funded medical schools which contribute substantially to our economy then we are headed in the wrong direction! God forbid that these institutions pull out our economy will plunge below ‘Rock bottom’.
Should Russia and the U.S engage in physical conflict are we going to harbor their ships like Venezuela did a few years back? This is the international arena! When the economy drowns in our bad decisions what happens to the banks which funded the housing industry, taxi operators, business personnel, farmers, fishermen, craft and souvenir vendors, restaurants, students of affiliated persons studying abroad, families of those who can no longer support themselves………Then the private and public sectors start releasing employees because they can no longer sustain……. Now you understand the domino effect!

  7. This is where it is said “we separate the men from the boys;” look at Skerrit body language, he looks like a scared boy; look at the way he crossed his feet like a frightened child, who is trying to focus and can’t grasp what is conveyed to him.

Look at the body language of the other individual, he sits like a dignitary should sit, looking all competent, with confidence; he looks like a States Man, while the Dominica dictator sits like a typical child begging for something. I suppose that is part of hectic schedule, where he is trying to sell a few passports.

Interestingly, he commends Russia, but mentioned nothing about the United Stats; I suspect that waste of time has to take side with another rouge nation, where the leader Puttin is a tyrant; Skerrit always choices the wrong people to associate with.

Skerrit is a guy, who hate the United States of America; no question in my mind about it, nevertheless, he ensures all of his children are born Americans. What happen to…

    • Continue:

What happen to Cuba Venezuela, China, or Russia, Why the United States? Why do you not allow your children to be born in one of those communist country? You and them might be better off in Venezuela, at least you would be close to Bird island, where you could go and visit so that the Aves could defecate in your face!

It is because life is better in the U. S. than any place where you Skerrit like to honor and praise dictators. Without the United States there could be meting to broker a cease fire, the United States lead all else follow!

Finally Skerrit, when a Statesman sits his dirty shoe and socks should not be featured, that may work in Dominica, where you believe you are well dressed, but when a dignitary sits in conference, his trousers should be full length over the rim of his shoe. You are poorly dressed let someone select a wardrobe for you

      • September 20, 2016

I do not think that Skerrit looks like a scared boy, or whatever. The Russian Ambassador looks bored and condescending. Just look at his face and that blank stare. This leads me to believe that he is bored and cannot wait to get pout of there. I can only imagine what he is saying in his head. ” Get out of here n$##@gga with you stupid words and your poor country. We doh need/want you for friend.

Thanks Russia for supporting the murderous Assad, thanks Russia for invading Crimea, thanks Russia for supplying the missile that shot down an airliner of civilians, Thanks Russia for your killing in Urkraine and thanks for showing us how to shut down the free press. So says our PM.
We the people might have something else to say.

  9. September 15, 2016

Skerrit, a little fish in a little poddel, that drying up, so he is splashing around to make some noise :-D :-D

  10. September 15, 2016

The U S A should also be commended for their role and efforts in helping to secure this cease fire.

    • Don’t bother with the crap Skerrit is running off his mouth talking about he commends Russia!

Without the United States there could be no cease fire. The Russians have a military base in Syria, from which they operate killing women and children, the United States supported the Freedom Fighters from the air. The fire power, and skills of the American Military suppasses that of Russia.

So, it was in the interest of the Russians to submit themselves, before they were humiliated by the power of the strength of America, for the world to witness. But as usual Skerrit that Mountain Chicken Mentality, don’t know, so trying to be important runs off his mouth not knowing when he has stock his foot in his mouth!

Each time that guy leaves Dominica, he pulls thousands of dollars from the treasury, I doubt any is ever brought back and turn to the government treasury, we know it goes into a politician pocket. Meanwhile, Skerrit trips never brings anything back into the country! It is…

From the comments below this will tell the world how sick and malicious workers supporters along with their leaders really are just a bunch of losers.

    • El Dog, you are the stupidest person alive: Take a look at the leader of your labor party, sitting like a child begging for food dressed in his stupid looking cloths, the color, which dose not fit the occasion.

Normally an intelligent prime minister would know darker colors would be a much better choice. Anyway, some of us country (village boys) knows how dress, but country boo-bee like Skerrit who has no class is happy to dress up in his fertilizer bag suit, believing he can out dress Lennox.

You may never see Lennox dressed up in any such stupid color, he must have got someone to sow some 100 lb sugar bag together in a hurry so that he can go out like a clown. The only stores I know they sell such color of suites are in (dem aunty-man) stores in San Francisco.

Could it be a certain person is wan aunty-man? I know but I doh talking eh!

That FET is too funny. I agree about the light colored suit though. He should have dressed in a dark suit, but, oh well, it’s not like he is Obama and has people pick out his clothes. For all I care he could come out wearing a SACK MAHYOL, same difference.

On the flip side of things I wonder when is Mr. Vladimir Putin ever going to commend Dr. Punjab Skeritt for ceasing local fire on Dominica’s people? There has been a secrete civil war going on for quite some time now in this country. War does not necessarily mean that you’re using fire arms. War comes in different forms for example government manipulation where he has been constantly fighting hard to keep us poor while he sucks Dominica dry then opening his unaccounted for wallet to give out public funds for votes. Punishing the salibury and Marigot people by withholding help from them because they didn’t vote for him. Hail king Skeritt, the sexiest dimpled oil pimpled prime minister of all time

Skerrit, we need you to be in Dominica and cease all these ridiculous travels and stay here to fight the poverty and Bobol war you and corrupt government started 15 years ago. Many of the children and their families you have left deprived in war torn poverty ramsacked villages around Dominica.

Stop preaching to others and come clean up the dirty poverty backyard you all have created. You are not and will never be this international crusader you appear to want to be as waving and shaking hands on the international stage, when your own backyard stage is messy, dirty, corrupt and battered with a war torn looking inept leader and bind loyalists.

You will never cease your criticisms. Be broadminded, considerate and comprehend that he is the PM. If he has diplomatic relations with Russia and vice versa, he must speak up and out. This is to be expected. It should not be unusual for you that you oppose his stance on this matter. Briefly, you need to grow up, become matured and broaden your mind.

      • Facts, can you name how many sane nations in the Caribbean, or any place in the world which has diplomatic relations with Russia! As far as we know perhaps Syria alone.

Now, I could be wrong, but as far I know ever nation in the former Soviet Union, Russia which the Russians invaded, and forced them into communism and holding them hostage, are now enemies of Russia. Skerrit is simply trying to prove to his dumb supports he has diplomatic relationship with every country, on earth; I even here he has a Ambassador in Tijuana Mexico, which is a hundred fifty miles from Los Angeles, a place where people still sleeps on dirt floors.
