Brazil has formally nominated Dr. José Graziano da Silva, currently serving as Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Latin America and the Caribbean, for the office of Director-General of the FAO.
The nomination is supported by Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff, and marks Brazil’s first nomination in history to the FAO.
Dr. Graziano da Silva, a native of Brazil who is currently based in Santiago, Chile, has devoted his 34-year professional and academic career to issues related to food security, agriculture and rural development.
Since 2006, he has served as the FAO Assistant Director-General and regional representative for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The appointment of the Director-General of the FAO for 2012-2015 will take place during the 37th session of the FAO conference, to be held in Rome from June 25 – July 2, 2011.
His platform for the FAO nomination includes promoting universal access to food and nutritional security through joint efforts of nations and international organizations; strengthening family farming and rural development as a path to eradicating hunger and bolstering sustainable development; and building inclusive processes into FAO’S policy formulation and management systems.
Meantime, new Brazilian Ambassador to Dominica, His Excellency Jose Viana, in a press statement issued this week, said this candidacy reflects the five pillars under which Brazil has decided to construct its fight against hunger.
According to the release “the first pillar is the ‘zero hunger program’, organised under the administration of former President Lula.
The second pillar is the need to boost food production and to put in place measures to increase resilience to temporary imbalances between food supply and demand caused by climate and market adverse conditions”.
The Government of Dominica has decided to support the Brazilian candidacy and had pledged to work with Brazil in its hunger eradication effort through a profitable cooperation program in agriculture.

Why can’t my government take this approach in the candidacy of Mr. Tyannie Behanzin when it relates to his place in the magistracy in his eradication efforts in significantly reducing crime on island through governments kind cooperation? WHAT A SHAME we go for everything foreign at the expense of our own. Mr. PM and your cabinet colleagues, charity begins at home, secure DA’s streets before you do anything for anybody else!
wat is wrong with u nigger?
HOPE IT WORKS FOR DOMINICA.
