Some Dominicans throw support behind Venezuela

Dominicans have thrown their support behind Venezuela in its latest run-in with the US and have thrown their full support behind the South American country.

On the weekend a number of Dominicans showed up at Venezuelan Embassy where they expressed dissatisfaction over the actions of the President of the US, Barack Obama, who described Venezuela as a threat to US national security.

Present were employees of Petrocaribe Dominica Ltd, past scholarship students, students of the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation, the International Cuban Brigade and other Dominican friends of Venezuela, according to a release from the embassy.

The release said the Dominicans highlighted the many contributions that Venezuela has been made to Dominica and the rest of the Caribbean.

Some held placards which read, “Venezuela we support you,” “Venezuela is a free and independent country, we accept no intervention whatsoever,” among others.

Last week Obama issued an executive order declaring Venezuela a national security threat, and slapped sanctions on seven officials.

“Venezuelan officials past and present who violate the human rights of Venezuelan citizens and engage in acts of public corruption will not be welcome here, and we now have the tools to block their assets and their use of US financial systems,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.

The White House also called on Venezuela to release all political prisoners, including “dozens of students.”

Venezuela has responded by saying the US wants to overthrow the government.

Last weekend nearly 100,000 members of the armed forces kicked of ten days of military drills across Venezuela to counter the US “threat.”

To further counter the “threat,” on Monday the Venezuelan parliament approved a law giving President Nicolas Maduro the power to rule by decree for the next nine months.

Critics of the so-called ‘imperialist law’ said the move was a power grab by Maduro.

Hhhhmmmm…… Ask yourselves a question my people!!! Did Maduro and his govt pass a law allowing him to RULE BY DECREE in response to that which was said by Obama???? If so, then why??? Does it mean that Maduro feels that if he had to take a decision to do something drastic such as to ‘defend the state from the imperialists’, that he may not have the support of his population and so must have the legal right to make the decision without parliamentary approval?? Or is this simply an excuse which will give him more legal room to take actions locally to control the populace??? Ask yourself, IS IT RIGHT FOR US TO SUPPORT THE GOVT OF VENEZUELA AGAINST THE US AT THIS TIME WHEN THOSE BEING TARGETTED BY THE US ARE THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR HAVING THE COUNTRY IN THE MESS IN WHICH IT IS AT THIS TIME??? I wonder……… I love and support the people of Venezuela, but I do not support their govt and some of its policies!!! One love….. oh!!! Will we support them in war as well??

DNO,, why hasn’t this article been correct as yet?

“Dominicans have thrown their support behind Venezuela in its latest run-in with the US and have thrown their full support behind the South American country”

When did Dominica decode to throw its “full support” behind Venezuela? stupes. Y’all better pray this article makes it nowhere on the international stage. I hoping it doesn’t get a chance to appear on Caribbean 360 news, and praying to Zeus, Ares, Yahweh, Diana, Jupiter, Shiva, Jehovah, Kali (you get the picture) that I don’t see a hint of this on CNN, FOX or otherwise….Stupes man

You make statements on matters that you are not aware of. Probably you are referring to D/can residents. You should know that there are many D/cans residing in the US, Canada and Europe and elsewhere in the world who travel to the US.
I am a naturalized Canadian. I can travel to the US anytime I so wish. Prior to 9/11, I did not have to use my passport; only my citizenship card.
Many people speak against the US especially the government. I noticed on sympatico.ca/theloop.ca, Obama was smiling at some negative statements which were written about him. As a politician, he must have a thick skin.
People can criticize their governments and other governments just as much as D/cans do. However, they are not to threaten them. D/cans on the other hand are too free with their mouths and fingers to the keyboard, consistently calling the PM and his government corrupt. I do feel they should be arrested and charged. Any other government would bring a charge against them.

They are within their rights to throw their support for Venezuela which has assisted them. This is appreciation and gratitude.
If every West Indian country does this, consider the numbers and support Venezuela will receive to make Obama cringe.
Obama took it upon himself to make such a statement against Venezuela and to sanction its diplomats. Two more years as a president in office for Obama. Time flies.

Mandela would weep profusely had he seen such a distasteful action. The DLP and its operatives have used our most precious gifts (children) to further their selfish, greedy and manipulative agenda in supporting the Maduro regime’s terror against its people for handouts. It is shameful and a blatant violation of their innocence. How dare these nincompoops abuse our children in such a distasteful manner? This my people is indeed child abuse and I sincerely hope that the UN, Francis Joseph and the churches are taking note.

America is not asleep and I can assure you the common man is the one who will feel America’ wrath when they can’t even get a visa to go to the USA for medical care. I weep for my country and people

Please don’t hide behind some Dominicans and Petrocaribe workers. It’s really strange that citizens of the Nature Isle would hold up placards showing support to Venezuala. On the books This country may say that they are democratic, but one only need to go there for three hours and you will realize in no uncertain terms that they are not democratic. Not even our beloved country is democratic in my opinion. Why is Cuba so afraid for its people to speak against its DICTATORIAL LEADERS? if a place is democratic, I would expect its citizens to have freedom of speech. We should not be given the illusion that we are a democracy, and if I do not support everything you say or even talk against the Gov’t I am being persecuted and sometimes thrown in jail. If we are not carefull DA might soon be like these rogue countries hiding under the banner of democracy. If we don’t study history it is sure to repeat its self. The problems in Venezuela is caused by the idiotic policies of the Venezuelan regime over the years, has nothing to do with the US, so the bullying excuse that is being propagated is a whole load of BS. The US has a right to defend itself against money launderers and drug traffickers and terrorism financiers. The US have placed restrictions on certain individuals who it determines are posing a threat to their national security.

The Venezuelan government must remove the socialist lunatic that they have masking as leader and get into reforming their economy creating jobs, allowing FDI putting the people back to work instead of masking their incompetence and their smoke and mirrors economic agenda.

Grell says it is a stupid move and they are selling their souls. Well, Grell, what about you? Who and what are you selling your soul to, especially if you do not give God the homage and glory He expects of you? Mortal and spiritual food for thought.

Yoland, if you all like the United States of America, you sure have a very strange way of showing that love!

Of what interest is it to Dominica to side with a rouge country like Venezuela against the United States of America? None, except associating with dictators whom if the had the military power to destroy the United States would have done so already.

If anything Venezuela has taken advantage of our country, and people for more than a hundred years. Ave’s island (Bird island) belongs to us, it is not much, for there are times when the sea overwhelms the island, nevertheless, our fishermen fives has been threatened there for years when Venezuela’s military gunboats open fire on harmless fishermen. My late grandmothers, late husband was a victim of such incidents.

If the Venezuelans wish to help us, they can start by seeding Bird island back to the rightful owners, the people of Dominica, even is to afford us the our privilege of fishing and catching the turtles they…

Foolish statement, our minds are brainwashed, I feel sorry for some of us that put USA so high like is God. Imagine that how comes, USA always thinks it is the world police? they always talking about human right, abuse and freedom of speech, does USA promote human right, everyday black people are killed by white police, USA is the country with most drug lords, drug addicts, prostitution, homosexuals etc. This is what they must fight to eradicate, too long have this country interfere in the affairs of others too long: see Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Libya and look now Venezuela. Tell me one thing these countries have in common? ” great oil reserves” that’s what the USA is fighting for, very greedy people. It is rather unfortunate that Obama is president of this beast. The world expected a better USA when he was elected but alas, this is one of the worst war and power hungry president that have ruled USA. Imagine a black man. USA must fall!!!!!!

I saw a lot of this type of thing during the days of Saddam Hussain, Al Qaeda, ISIS, Gaddafi, and other evil leaders that were wanted. When they knew they were wanted they often used innocent children, women that had nothing to do, and men that directly benefited from the evil system and would either put them in harms way or used them to shield their evils. Is this what I am seeing in this photo above? Somebody definitely well trained by Muammar Gaddafi.

I agree. I guess that most people who are commenting do not know America for who she really is. You people need to do your research before posting your comments. America acts like a bully and will interfere with other countries for their resources: oi,l in particular.
Someone talked about human rights and mentioned the killings of young black men by white policemen. Does the Obama government really care about the rights of these innocent lives being taken? He is like a puppet who moves at every direction . He is just in the forefront and does not control anything.

The U.S falls and so does the rest of the world. China could not survive without America. It needs America to buy its’ crap to survive. America with all its’ faults has given refuge to millions of people who have been persecuted in their own country. America has its’ faults, but it is still the best country in this world of ours.

I do not know where you obtained your information from. I only hope you are not an agent of the Venezuelans planted here to lie and spread false political propaganda. The fact that you say the United States has destroyed the whole of the Middle East, and then you talk about prophecy is an indication that you do not have any clue of what you are talking about.

If you are talking about prophecy, that means the false information you put there came form the Bible. Well, I personally learnt from the Bible how the Middle Eastern wars, and confusion starts more than three thousand years ago, and surly the United States was not yet born, and I an sure you cannot finger where the name United States are mentioned prophetically in prophecy. There is a book called Mystery Of The Ages, by Herbert Armstrong where he spoke about the United States & Britin in prophecy he said nothing about America destroying the Middle East.

I don’t agree with DNO headlines,” Dominicans throw support behind Venezuela”. In my opinion , the headlines should read, “a section of the Dominican public specifically DLP supporters and workers of Petrocaribe show support behind Venezuela. Those poor Dominicans being shown with placards doesn’t realize they are being used. For instance, why hasn’t the Prime Minister or his Government publicly condemn or even write an official letter to Mr. Obama indicating his concern. Why isn’t Dr. Aaron standing with his postcard in solidarity with Venezuela. The man is Dominica’s Ambassador to Venezuela. Once again, in my opinion, should the Americans were to read the headlines of DNO, the Prime Minister, by being quiet, could hide away from any criticisms coming from the Americans.

You ignorant people are talking against Obama, and the United States, a place where many of us has found refuge, our life is much better off than if we remained in “Daminica.” It is ironic that our people crave immigrating to the United States, rather than Venezuela, yet you hate this country and its people so much!

Nevertheless, the same clowns who are out there, talking about they are supporting Venezuela they are preparing to sneak into America. It is all about talk in Dominica, and carrying of placards, by the time the camera is turned off, those same miserable idiots out there goes home and dive into the barrel of food they received from some soul in the US for their survival. Dominicans always takes the wrong side, they always hold on to the short end of the stick.

The immigration and naturalization service of America, and the U. S., Virgin islands should now commence
rounding up the many illegal Dominicans and ship them back to Dominica via Venezuela, let’s see how…

Steve the ignorant thing about the few is that they have their children involved into that crap!

Do they believe the placards they are carrying has any effect on Obama, and America? If there is a showdown between Venezuela and the United States what sort of help can Dominica give to Venezuela that will have an effect on America? Dominicans should be ashamed to be out there talking crap about Venezuela is a free country.

How cares; Dominica is a free country too, but it is a free country that unable to feed it people, so to keep the handouts coming from Venezuela, they must put on a show; by the time they put down their placards they go out on their feet warring down push-in enquiring how they can get to sneak into America. If I had my way, and had any say, I would advise the U. S. Embassy in Barbados to stop issuing entry visas to any Dominica hoping to travel to America. Someone need to teach our people a hard lesson!

Venezuela is sinking. We better accept that. The rally should be a protest about restoring some emergency assistance and dignity to the Venezuelans themselves and not about US pronouncements!! Maduro is using the US announcement (which is not a threat of any physical or military nature) as an opportunity to be diverted from the real issue, which is the economy is in tatters and the government is not prioritizing assistance to its own people. There is nothing Dominicans can do about that predicament. Sooner or later Venezuela will have no choice but withdraw and scale back its development support to Dominica and others. Meanwhile its population is starving and experiencing shortages on every level. If Dominica was supporting Haiti and some calamity came and wiped out that source of income would Dominicans still be happy about supporting Haiti? Probably not. So you can gauge the true feelings of Venezuelans. But I suppose most people are not really concerned about that.

Wow! It is nice to see and know that DEMOCRACY still exists in Dominica, though for a select few when it pleases their agenda. This time I did not see no armed police officers, no guns, no one dressed in army uniform, though it was done at the Venezuelan Embassy, and for something foreign. Can you imagine what would have happened if a few of us on the other side of politics were to stand with our placards in front of Parliament building to show support to the USA? This handful of laborites and innocent children that do not know anything about life and politics are just being used as scape goats. There are more of us in Dominica that are opposed to the manner in which innocent Venezuelans are being treated by their corrupt government than the handfool of standing here today. Is just that we are scared of being victimized or attacked by the police.
