His Excellency President of Dominica, Charles Savarin, hopes that the new Indonesian ambassador to Dominica will focus on exploring new and improved bilateral cooperation between the two countries during his tenure.

His Excellency Charles Savarin received the letter of credence from President of the Republic of Indonesia for new ambassador of Indonesia to Dominica, His Excellency Mochammad Luthfie Wittoeng on Monday, 20th June.

His Excellency Savarin expressed with gratitude the commitment of the Republic of Indonesia to maintain the bonds of friendship which exist between the two countries.

He stated his wish for greater efforts to benefit both countries especially in the area of geothermal energy production.

“I note also that Indonesia is the world’s third largest producer of geothermal electricity after the United States of America and the Philippines, and that your development plans call for an expansion of geothermal electricity generation which will make you the world’s largest producer by the year 2025,” he said.

He added, “We in Dominica are currently seeking to develop our proven geothermal resources, firstly for domestic consumption, with the objective making Dominica 100% reliant on renewable energy for electricity generation with a mix of geothermal and hydro, and in the medium term to develop the capacity to export geothermal electricity to our neighbouring islands, particularly our closest neighbours of Martinique and Guadeloupe.”

Dominica’s President also made mention of educational opportunities available for Dominicans in the Republic of Indonesia.

He hopes that in the near future travel to Indonesia can be extended in that regard.

“Your excellency the Republic of Indonesia has offered a number of training courses in areas of great interest to Dominica. We have not always been able to take advantage of these offers of training because of the high cost of air travel between Dominica and the Republic of Indonesia.

Because of the interest of Dominica in these training courses, particularly those related to services, it is our hope that we will be able to discuss with your government the possibility of fully funding a few of the courses, in order to facilitate broader participation.

We welcome the news that Dominican nationals who are holders of ordinary passports who wish to visit the Republic of Indonesia for up to 30 days, will no longer require a visa. It is my sincere hope that during your Excellency’s tenure, the agreement will be extended to facilitate travel to the Republic of Indonesia for Dominica nationals who wish to visit for longer periods.”

His Excellency Charles Savarin pledged the continued support of Dominica to the Republic of Indonesia.

His Excellency Mochammad Luthfie Wittoeng, resident in Venezuela, is also ambassador to Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and Trinidad and Tobago.

    @ Hamil:
You expect a Dominican or another West Indian from another country to be an ambassador to Dominica? You are joking.
Times have changed. Broaden your mind. If his government and himself will be of benefit to Dominica, why not? Did you not read, “Indonesia is the world’s third largest producer of geothermal electricity . . .” Well, there you go. Does this need further explanation? They will also be of expert help to Dominica in this field.

What a joke. It seems that anyone can be an ambassador or president in a third whole country. Just wash your feet and dance to the beat. Where are all the educated men of this underdeveloped country gone? To greener pastures I guess. Our name really suits us Dummy in can..

Educated men understand that the twenty-first century isn’t one where only North America and Europe matter. Indonesia is one of the largest countries in the world. Are you seriously suggesting that Dominica shouldn’t have a relationship with them?
