Russian government endorses visa waiver agreement with Dominica – report

The Russian government has endorsed a visa waiver agreement with Dominica, the Russian news agency TASS has reported.

According to TASS, the agreement was drafted by the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Cabinet expects it to boost ties between the two countries.

“The draft agreement waives visas for holders of Russian passports valid abroad, including diplomatic and service passports, and citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica who hold diplomatic, service and regular passports, provided their stay does not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period,” an explanatory note of the agreement reads,” according to TASS.

It means that Russian citizens can visit Dominica and Dominican can visit Russia without visas for up to 90 days, according to the report.

Speaking at a panel discussion at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June 2017, Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, had floated the idea of a visa-free regime between the region and Russia.

He said such a regime must be advanced if the two regions were to gain from relationships that were being built.

“We have to advance the visa-free access to our countries, for us to see the benefits of this type of integration, this type of cooperation, we must advance visa-free access,” he stated. “We must have the ease of movement in order for us to advance our economic cooperation. So from the Caribbean standpoint, we are prepared to engage in this visa-free regime that would enhance our relationship and enhance our business opportunities.”

In April, 2018 the government announced that it had appointed Mr. Nuri Katz as Dominica’s Resident Ambassador to the Russian Federation.

Last year, Grenada and St. Kitts & Nevis signed a visa-waiver agreement with Russia.

    FYI:

Russians are already visa free to Dominica according to the unilateral visa exemption by Dominican government. Therefore the agreement affects only Dominicans who wiil not need visas to Russia in the future.

And those that go there have diplomatic passports anyway and do not have to pay for their own ticket.

What Projects has the USA done in Dominica rather than Kill our Bannana exports in the WTO trade rulings for their Chiquita and Dole bananas to be exported to the UK? Do you realise that the racist countries you claim who are racist are the biggest contributors to our development?

This is an opportunity to give access to Dominica. Dominicans are not going to Russia and if a few go a year it may never be more than 100. On the other hand it is a possibility for more Russians to come to Dominica. They have deeper pockets and is another destination away from the cold. I can see more Russians coming to Dominica on vacation, spending money thus increasing tourist revenue, they seeing room for investment and making Dominica a home.

In the long run we as Dominica will benefit from it thus we should try not to be too closed minded. If we want DLP out this is not a means. When UWP come in they will try their best to get Russian investors to come to Dominica. We have lost a lot and we need to find ways to grow our country.

I do not see that that in the quote has to do with the ordinary Dominican! I wonder how many Dominicans would be anxious to go to live in Russia?

Maybe Roosevelt Melisa and their American born Children eh!

My younger daughter is married to a Russian, not even him is eager to return to Russia on a vacation, mind you there are Dominicans living in Russia you know; and guess what? They are related to kid Francisco, they from Marigot, don’t look for them they are out of Telemaque, but their surnames are not Telemaque.

As for my daughter she is not going to live in Russia, maybe  Dominica, though she is  Antiguan born.

Kuddos, I think this is great for our long term growth.

When Skerrit is pursuing one or two things for the advancement of the nation give him his props or shut up. We too backward and partisan in this nation.

That said, hopefully we can get visa free entry to most African states, particularly the English speaking ones like South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana etc. Also the Ethiopia which has been called the ‘China’ of Africa for its blistering growth rates since 2000. Getting visa free entry to Indonesia, Thailand, and the rest of the Russian Commonwealth states like Kazakhstan will be good too. These are fast growing countries who within 50 odd years can rival the EU countries in overall GDP.

Or we can be good lil negs, only wanting to maintain contact with white Western Countries and fight among ourselves.

“Kuddos, I think this is great for our long term growth. ”

Stop being silly; great for what long term growth? Name one country on earth you know Russia or in the days when Russia annex all of Eastern Europe forced them int communism, in the seventy years when they were known as the Soviet Union you know grew into a progressive and wealthy country.

For your information Cuba was a satellite state of the Soviet Union (Russia), can you show me the long term growth Russia created in Cuba.

They tried to dominate all of Africa, by spreading communism, when the Africans discover their only goal was to spread communism, the the kicked the Russians out of Africa. No this the Russians dislike and hate black people!

It was Putin who said Black people should not be on Television in America reading and anchoring the news, he said only white should do that. the had a commercial in Russia with a black:

If this is posted I will finish it!

    • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
      August 29, 2018

“the the kicked the Russians out of Africa. No this the Russians dislike and hate black people! ”

I need to correct this too” They kicked the Russians out of Africa. Know this; the Russians dislike and hate black people.

      Now the conclusion!

They took some Africans to Russia they claimed to study; what the did to the Africans were inhumane, they segregated them from the Russian people. In the eighties (80″), they ran a propaganda commercial in Russia directed at people wanting to immigrate to America.

So what they did in that commercial was show a Black Man looking poor in the streets, with an apple, he took a bite off the apple, and dropped it and walked away; then they showed a Russian who had already immigrated to America looking poor and old picked up the bit of apple and eat it!

If you hope that Russia is going to cause progress in Dominica, is not only your bad dream; it is a myth!

    August 29, 2018

The problem with Dominica is that the intellectuals there do not want to go into politics. So we have some KAKA Rat ruling things here.

As the saying goes, “when a leader has no vision the people will perish.”

Just as in the case of the international airport, Ralph Gonslaves saw that Skerrit is a novice so he easily fooled him , and Mia mortley saw the same thing in Skerrit’s inability to speak and negotiate on an international level , so again he was easily crooked into letting Ross go.

Skerrit needs to go so Dominica can breathe in some new air.

    • Peeping Tom
      August 29, 2018

Lol! And that “new air” is the learned Linton and his gang of misfits? Wow!!!

You will be singing “skerrit must go ” for some more years. I suggest you make a CD out of this chorus. Too much singing can trigger laryngitis.

    • d-a born
      August 29, 2018

The big question is would the people accept the intellectuals. The biggest issue with Dominica and it’s leadership is that a lot of the people are small minded or ignorant and do not demand more from our politicians or hold them accountable. So many of them go to rallies to hear politicians throw maypwee and entertain them, instead of hearing their plans to move the country forward through investments, jobs, education, etc. A lot of them seem content in their ignorance, then bawl when things continue to go downhill. Every time I’ve tried to say something like this to either a UWP or Labour supporter, I get ridiculed.

Look at America, sure, a lot of people voted for Trump because of racism but there are a lot in the swing states that voted for him because he told them he was going to bring jobs back and improve the economy and they believed him – unlike Hillary who sat on her high horse and didn’t properly communicate her policy.

      • A_DAMassive
        August 29, 2018

And to add a little something to the intellectual take. Henry Kissinger, Una Clarke, and Zbigniew Brzezinski were foreign born individuals who played a major role in shaping American politics.

Why on earth can’t a Dominican who migrated, returned and built a home in DA, sent so much money to help stabilize family, and country by default but cannot run for political office to provide the skills we developed to our country? I have heard that foolishness repeated by so many when I visit Dominica: “you diaspora cannot come here and tell us how to run the country,” as if there is something so special and different about running Dominica, than other countries.

That is a game being played by the uneducated intellectuals on the uneducated who gobble up that nonsense and not realizing it is all a ploy to keep them oppressed and poor. If one returns and ran for election, the individual do not have to beg, then can speak freely to effect change, with no fear of retaliation.

Whenever an authoritarian government in this world looks for ‘friends’, Skerrit is the first one to shout, yes please. Dominica would be well advised to stay well clear of Russia and double and triple check everyone that wants to enter Dominica. Russia is a Mafia state and these guys don’t joke. They do everything for money. Sounds familiar??

Don’t say you didn’t know because the writing has been on the for years now and because much clearer when Skerrit came from Russia last year and started to talk about Dominica and Russia building bridge. Just now all you will be banned from visiting the US Embassy in Barbados, let alone entering the United States

    • Young Struggler
      August 29, 2018

Why should we care about being banned from the U.S. We have a much higher U.S – Dominica traffic and they won’t even consider a VISA waiver. Allu need to stop acting like U.S.A is the world.
