Student of St. Luke’s primary school, Jarret Jean Jacques, has won the 2014 DBS reading competition.
The competition is an annual event which is organized by DBS Radio in collaboration with Courts and the Ministry of Education.
Jean Jacques outperformed nine other finalists to take the top spot in the final which was held at the Arawak House of Culture on Friday afternoon.

Congrats Jarret and by extension St. Luke’s School. Well done parents, Sister Anita, Ms. Anthea Felix and all the other teachers who helped prepare this intelligent, articulate, and confident young guy for this victory. Best of luck in Grenada. We will be listening.

We all kno who the winner is. We need judges who can judge properly. Not judges who just come and dnt kno anything about the competition. last year we were given the points so give us our points as soon as possible!!
Wait! So you figure the competition belongs to Light House every year now? Westay la!
Get over yourself!
No it doesn’t. However it would only be fair if the judges had done their judging properly! I wish him best of luck in the OECS competition.
Seriously??? Lighthouse was not the best this year. Deal with it!
But let’s not take this to the gutter please. We are talking about an EDUCATIONAL activity for CHILDREN! I hope you are not poisoning the minds of the Lighthouse Christian children- they are our Dominican children and the future of our country. Rather, teach them that fair is fair. It was not theirs this year- however little Miss Laurent represented her school very very well and that should be the focus. Grow up parent, and realize that.
well done.
I would like to congratulate you Jean Jacques and your teachers on your wonderful achievement .
I wish you the best for the next stage in the competition.
Great to read such amazing news from the beautiful island. Thanks DNO for making this possible.
welldone
Congratulations young man.
It seems to me matters of this magnitude don’t get major response at an alarming rate. We need to give support to this rising star. What they hear the most is how we push other down. Let’s do our best to support our leaders of tomorrow.CONGRATULATIONS JARRET AND ALL WHO PARTICIPATED IN NTHE READING COMPETITION..
Great job young man. I am just glad a boy made it. This, I hope is the beginning of a new trend for our boys and Dominica as a whole. Our boys can- they can read, they can excel, they can grow up to be excellent leaders and good fathers and husbands- they can; only, we need to push and encourage them. It’s time our society get back to what it ought to be. CONGRATULTIONS Jarrett!!! Marlene and Norman(yes I know you both), you guys must be very, very proud. Congratulations to the other finalists too, you all were impressive and the other children who read this year did well too. Keep reading children, just keep reading but don’t forget to read the bible too.
Sorry ‘CONGRATULATIONS’- wrong spelling the first time.
Good job. It is good to see that this young star has done well. It is sometimes sad to see that the boys have taken a rest. Congratulations to all the participants in this activity. You are our futureso continue to work hard

You go my student!!! Proud of you!
I agree with Wow. DNO the students worked too hard.Give them what is due to them. Make mention where mentuon is due.If they selected five why make mention of three?
DNo if five students were selected from the ten where are the others? I think I heard Paix Bouche in the fourth place and St johns in thee fifth place.
Dont let the children think the are failures give them what is due to them.
you did very good and we want you to go out there and bring back the trophy to dominica
