UPDATE: Kelver out..for personal reasons he says

Darroux has been MP for the St. Joseph constituency for over nine years

It’s now official that the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) will have a new candidate contesting in the St. Joseph constituency.

Kelver Darroux, the current Member of Parliament for that constituency, who first contested and won that seat for the DLP in 2009 replacing Vince Henderson. has decided to call it a day.

Recently, there has been much speculation over Darroux’s future as a candidate but today December 3, 2018 for the first time, Darroux went public with the matter.

“I have taken a personal decision to not contest the next general elections in Dominica as a candidate and that decision has been solely based on me taking the decision to further myself within my personal and educational life,” he said.

He said it was not an easy decision to make because of the love he has for his people particularly those of the St. Joseph constituency.

“However, I believe at this time, it is the right decision for me and a few months ago, I informed the Prime Minister of my decision and also discussed it with my family and also the constituency branch,” Darroux stated.

He continued, “At this time, the DLP continues to remain the best party of choice for Dominica and I have the utmost respect and confidence for the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. I want to thank the Almighty Father for giving me the opportunity for the past 9 to ten years for being the MP for St. Joseph and giving me the knowledge and wisdom at the helm to effect my job to the best of my family. I want to thank my family for allowing me to be part of the electoral process. Also the residents of St. Joseph, Layou, and Belles…I take that job seriously.”

Darroux said he remains committed to the DLP and will serve the rest of his term and will also champion the cause of whoever the candidate is, to ensure that the DLP wins back that seat.

“After all is said and done and I am gone…who knows, if the Lord wills I may just be back but the Lord will decide. We have done a lot in the constituency and it has been difficult with the storms and hurricane and also the Matthieu dam collapse, but we have persevered as a people and for this I am grateful to God,” he said.

Asked who his replacement will be, he said, “The process has begun and a few people have expressed an interest. Whoever it is, I will be with them side by side to regain this seat for the DLP,” Darroux remarked.

Of course is for personal reasons. How would you feel that after nine year you are told by your boss man that you must make way for someone else but they calculated they can not win that constituency again with you there but must parachute in a buddy to save the day. Maybe boss man offered him a package to soften the blow and make him sign a non-disc;losure or give a grant to study abroad to have you safely out of the way? Who knows.

Yes sir, a mind is a terrible thing to waste. You are showing a good example . You are now a model for young people to follow. Every one knows the value and importance of a good education except for the opposition forces. Unbelievable ! Opposition forces do not have education on their bucket list. Margwaysa. So shameful.

Are we still living in a democracy ? Opposition forces are operation with dictatorship leverage. They think that all decisions must meet their approval. People are right if they say its right.
Every adult has the constitutional, political and human right to decide their future within the law.
When one opposition forces member decide not to continue in the house after this term, there was no backlash, when the deputy leader of a party decided to jump the political fence ,no problem. But when a member of theirs decided to cross the floor all hell broke loose. Now a member of a party decided not to contest next election ,all hell is breaking loose again. Give me a break. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Opposition forces like to assume dictatorship authority to give us our opinion. They love to exercise power that they do not have. Can you imagine if they had power and influence……… I am afraid to say. Mr Darroux , You are doing the right thing.

Some people can’t make up there minds. First they say parliamentarians stay in office too long, now they have all kinds of conspiracy theories when one decides to leave. Politics is not the be all end all. The man is young and wants to further his education, something most of us should do to try and tackle ignorance.

You have lauded the MP lavishly with praise for the good he has done for his constituents and that should be a good thing. What are some of these significant developments in the St. Joseph constituency that occurred under his watch? Are the constituents’ lives much better today as a result of his stewardship? Did he look out for all the people of St. Joseph or just his supporters? Did he frequently walk through the constituency to converse one on one with the people to listen to their grievances and concerns? Did he deliver for these needy people? If he did all these things and more then he deserves commendations. If he didn’t then he is undeserving of such lavished praise.

When the road seemed rocky you were there, now that you want to start a new chapter, we the people of St. Joseph would like to wish you good luck 🍀 and God’s Blessings. Thanks Again

You are correct in a way; the greatest problem is the shallow mind of our people who are easily fooled by just about anybody who say to them I can; I will do this for you if  you vote for me! Our shallow minded people never asks how are you going  to do it?

Anybody who appear out of nowhere talking nonsense can become government minister in Dominica, since the criteria  for electing people are not based on the issues affecting the country, and how to resolve them; it is not about industries; developing local industries, and encouraging foreign investments.

The emphasis is always “somebody want to help us; we have investors out there just waiting for us to win, so that the can come. So, they won: eighteen years plus elapsed nothing came since they were elected, instead business pulled out  in droves, over the past twenty years.

I know a dunce in Wesley because she lived in Canada she thinks it’s her right to be in government!

Not even your own families, nonetheless all the people who are currently critical of another person, couldn’t even do things for themselves.
Get a life and do something different. Be nice for a change. Circumstances will change and you people will not be able to see the changes you want.

So, may I asks what form of linguists, or linguists is that:  “to further myself within my personal educational life.”

No wonder, with people like this guy and Roosevelt in government, Dominica shall remain an underdeveloped place, with language like that, if this man had to represent Dominica, in a forum where there are academically educated people, and he express himself in such a kindergarten language, they would have asks him if English is not part of our education curriculum.

He is the same guy who told Dominicans, and in particular the red devils in St. Joseph he was going to build a high-speed Rail to accommodate trains running from Liou Valley to St. Joseph, and the clowns voted for him based on that stupid lying promise.

This is just another of Roosevelt tactics; once he find that the people do not favor his puppet anymore, he drops them for another more favorable. He did the same to my cousin Gloria, and others! This guy is only covering his shame!

Francisco Telemaque not forgetting he also promise sen.joe people a Boulevard with trees planted along side and a few more Cliche to go with it. These people need to be held accountable for the millions of empty promises they have fooled the Dominican people over and over.

      • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
        December 4, 2018

Penny, the problem with most Dominica politicians is that they view getting into politics only as a way of making a living.

To them it is only a job, get paid and that’s it!

They talk about all they can and will do without realizing it is not as simple as they perceive it; and lie to people convincingly that they have a true dream that will materialize; so they get elected and are unable to deliver nothing of what the promised; nothing comes to fruition.

There is a similar situation, where twice in a row, Blackmoore got elected making the same lying promises that he was going to build a Hotel on Rodney’s Rock, claiming that tourist will flocked to Dominica to go and stay on Rodney Rock simply to see the foramen’s (holes) in the rock which were caused by cannon balls in the fourteen hundreds.

During a war between the British & the French for Dominica, in the dark of night Rodney thought he fired a ship….

The LABOUR PAINS are becoming unbearable even for some Ministers of Cabinet. Skerrit, with his docile devotees, has brought a once proud country to its knees. Instead of using his position to empower and inspire the people, he has used his power to amass wealth for himself, his Cabinet and a few diehard loyalists. Life has progressively worsened for the majority of citizens since Skerrit’s ascension to the helm of government. The country needs a welcome break from 18 consecutive years of hardships, misery and decadence. Dominicans are in need of a government that is people oriented, one that works for everybody and not just a tiny few.

Like the saying goes, better late than never but Kelver didn’t have to allow himself to stay in that war against Dominica for so long. I am happy the young man finally calls it a day but at the same time very sad that he stayed so long in that mess, since he saw the writing on the wall for so long. What we have in Dominica is not Labor or Freedom but rather, a dlp party that was hijacked by a very greed, selfish, corrupt and EVIL Roosevelt Skerrit. Those of us that are truly labor MUST come together and do what we have to do to ensure Dominica becomes free again.

Shaka, why do you think his action is smart? Politicians never tell the whole truth. It’s always blatant lies, half-truths or even a tiny percent of the truth, it’s never the unvarnished truth. Don’t you think there were some extenuating circumstances that forced him to make this announcement? Did he fall out of favor with his with the LEADER or did he see the writing on the proverbial wall? No person of good conscience will ever want to be a part of a severely corrupt administration as this current one. It’s not an exaggeration to describe this maladministration as evil, abysmal, god-awful, sadistic and monstrous. Let me finally add, everything this regime does is masterfully calculated for maximum selfish and political aggrandizement.

Ibo France if you have read my criticism of this chap i have always advised him to get an education. Kelvar was President of the National Youth Council and for any young person to take that position shows promise and potential. By all accounts he was well likes and did a good job. People like him should have gone on to educate themselves get some real worl experience so he can be a well informed leader. The problem is because of his position as youth President the labour leadership brought him in to get the youth. Imagine a young kid like him getting the promise of being a minister. It is a nice carrot being dangled. Sure Skerrit took him under his wings like a drug dealer does to the fatherless kids. Skerrit liked him uneducated so he could control him. I think this uoung guy have alot of potential but he was in a position over his head and needed to be enlighten. I truley believe when he gets there he will realize how much he was just an object occupying a position. Hope he clean.

      December 4, 2018

Actually, Labour is indeed the best thing for Dominica in its present history. No other party is as organized and as networked as the DLP. No other party has the experience as the DLP. None. You may hate these facts, but you can take them to the bank. The DLP remains the only choice for Dominica today. This might change in 5 or 10 years, but at this juncture in our history the DLP is the only choice.

If you think the DLP is koshonie then, you can only imagine how badly off the other parties are.

      • Ibo France
        December 4, 2018

Peeping Tom, you are so correct when you stated that no other party has the experience as the DLP. They have too much experience in carrying out victimization, too much in corruption, too much in political division, much too much in enriching only themselves, family and a few diehard supporters. Conversely, they lack experience in good governance as the country has only experienced poor and utterly deplorable governance, particularly, for the last fourteen (14) years. This administration has been nothing but an abysmal failure. The irrefutable proof is plain to see. Look at the grossly underdeveloped state of the island especially in comparison to its neighbors. No other country in the OECS has gotten more outside assistance than Dominica. Yet, it’s light years behind all the others. Ask the ordinary man or eoman if they are presently satisfied with their quality of life. The answer is a resounding “NO”. Even the Labor supporters will concur.
