Linton clashes with Talking Point host; walks out of interview

Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, abruptly ended an interview with the host of DBS Radio’s Talking Point, Kamala Jno Baptiste Aaron on Monday morning, after he accused her of being a “rabid political animal.”

Based on what Linton said on the program, he was invited to speak about the National Budget which was presented to parliament recently and he accused the host of not sticking to the script.

The interview began with Jno Baptiste Aaron questioning Linton on his rise to the leadership of what she described as the “somewhat embattled” United Workers Party, matters dealing with the just contested Soufriere by-election and the very public booting of Deputy Leader of the UWP recently.

But things began going down hill when Jno Baptiste questioned Linton on what has been his biggest surprise in his new position as leader of the UWP.

Linton responded, “The biggest surprise to my mind has to do with the nature of the challenge of opposing the seating government that is bent on utilizing every public resource available, every trick in the book to ensure that it builds the paramountcy of the party, that it makes the party, the ruling party, the be all and the end all of everything in Dominica. And it creates out of the leader, a person who believes the state is mine, the state belongs to me, the resource of the state are mine, and so I can do as I please with them.”

Jno Baptiste Aaron demanded an explanation.

“Explain what you just said,” she stated. “Break it down for me. Explain what you mean by the party in government using the state resources, the leader acting as if the state is mine. Explain those things to me.”

Linton responded by saying that there is a leader in Dominica who believes that it is heresy or treason to criticize the way he carries out his public function.

Jno Baptiste Aaron asked for evidence of Linton’s claim.

He responded by saying, “By the way, you are the press secretary of Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit. Right?”

“I am the press secretary of the government but here is the thing that is happening this morning, you are not the one in studio two, I am the one asking the questions,” Jno Baptiste stated.

Linton interrupted and said the invitation that he received indicated that he was to discuss the 2016 budget.

“You’ve opened up this interview in a sort of interrogatory kind of way about what I did, what I did in 2013, what I have been doing since, whether I have had any disappointments…” he stated. “And I have tolerated that but I would like us now to come to the discussion of the budget which I came here for.”

But Jno Baptiste Aaron countered by saying as a seasoned broadcaster, Linton knows that the person being interviewed does not dictate what the line of questioning is.

Linton stated that he was not trying to dictate anything but was asking the host to follow the protocol that “was established by the content of the letter that I received.”

Jno Baptiste Aaron would hear none of it.

“You will not raise your voice to me,” she told Linton. “I have been very respectful. The people of Dominica are listening and I think you, as a former broadcaster would know that you do not dictate the line of questioning.”

However, Linton kept interrupting her, asking when the budget was going to be discussed.

“Are we going to talk about the budget?” he asked. “I have been invited here to talk about the 2016 budget.”

Jno Baptiste Aaron replied by asking Linton if he was going to back up what he was saying with facts.

Linton replied by saying he will back up what he was saying with facts when they discuss the budget.

Jno Baptiste Aaron responded, “I guarantee you that you know that I am not one of the people that you talk to in any which way. I guarantee you that you know that….”

To this Linton asked, “Kamala Aaron, what is this about? What is this about really? You don’t dictate the way I speak. I don’t tell you what questions to ask, I don’t dictate your line of questioning. I simply ask you to follow the protocol established by the letter of invitation I received to come here this morning. That is all. What I came prepared for is a discussion on the budget of 2016. You have all sorts of excursions into other things of which I have been tolerant but I am asking now, are we going to have a conversation about the budget, and can that conversation about the budget commence now. If you don’t have the tolerance, if you don’t have the respect for the position that I represent, I am here this morning at the invitation of DBS Radio, excuse yourself, let somebody else do the interview. You seem to be here with some sort of agenda which I don’t particularly appreciate.”

She responded, “You always dictate what people agenda is when you have a difficulty backing up your accusation..”

“This is absolutely rubbish,” Linton replied. “I am saying to you that whatever facts and evidence you want, I will back it up in the conversation about the budget which I came prepared for.”

A break followed after which Jno Baptiste Aaron came back on air saying that she will be asking the questions that she wants to ask “even in the context of a budget discussion.”

She stated that all of the questions that she asked were relevant and if Linton did not want to answer them, he may choose not to.

“That’s how it is going to work this morning,” she noted.

The interview resumed with Jno Baptiste Aaron asking Linton why he walked out of parliament during the budget debate, which she described as “the most important calendar event in the lives of the people of Dominica.”

Linton had left parliament to attend a protest rally of the UWP.

“Explain to the people of Dominica how your business ended up in the streets in protest action during the 2016-2017 budget debate,” she said.

“What do you mean by business ended up in protest action,” Linton replied. “I don’t understand that.”

“The 2016-2017 budget debate was going on in the parliament of Dominica, at that same time your party planned to have protest action,” Jno Baptiste Aaron responded. “Your business is in the House of Assembly. I am wondering how it is, especially with what you said in order to build the party, how your party plans for protest action during the most significant calendar event in the country.”

Linton stated that the UWP’s protest was planned during the week of the 22nd of June 2016.

“At that time the party had no idea when the budget presentation was going to be,” he said. “The budget year ended on the 3oth of June 2106. We had no indications as parliamentarians when the budget presentation would be. Last year it was earlier in the month of July, the year before that it was a little earlier. This year it came towards the end of the month. We decided when we were notified of the meeting of the parliament that we would go ahead with protest action as planned.”

He stated that the protest action did not prevent him from responding to the budget within 24 hours.

“I was not in the parliament for certain periods during the ensuing debate but I was not the only individual in the parliament who was absent during the sitting, the Prime Minister himself was absent, there were others who were absent. And it is normal behavior, customary in the parliament that parliamentarians come and go,” Linton said.

Jno Baptiste Aaron interjected by saying there is a difference between coming and going, taking a break or walking outside and being in a planned protest action on the streets.

She wondered whether it was prudent to continue with the protest action even after the UWP became aware of the date of the budget debate.

“Yes, it was,” Linton responded.

Jno Baptiste Aaron then asked Linton how would he describe the budget in a nutshell.

Linton stated that the budget was “an old talk budget” to which an explanation was demanded by Jno Baptiste Aaron.

“I said it is an old talk budget. One sentence,” Linton said.

“What is the old talk?” Jno Baptiste Aaron asked.

“The same old talk, we’ve heard over and over again in 16 years,” Linton responded.

“OK, do you consider the facility for the tourist sector of $15-million in the AID Bank same old talk?” Jno Baptiste Aaron asked.

“We’ve seen those initiatives before,” was the response and Jno Baptiste Aaron asked where.

“In Dominica. There has been money available to be lent through the AID Bank for productive sector purposes,” Linton stated.

“There is a difference between the money being put in the bank, I specifically mentioned the tourism sector,” she responded, to which Linton interjected, “sounds similar to me.”

But Jno Baptiste Aaron said this has never happened before “that the private sector meets with the public sector, specifically, the ministry of finance and the minister for finance, tells the minister of finance what its difficulties are, asked for terms and conditions, those terms and conditions provided for the tourism sector. That has never happened before. Tell me again what is old.”

Linton went on to say that there are two tracks in the budget. One is the maintenance track where the government provides for things that normally happen for providing services to the people and the other is what action the government is going to take to improve the economic situation of the country.

“That is where the growth of the economy comes in,” he stated.

He went on to say the working class of the country has been devastated and the middle class is in a downward spiral and properties are escalating.

“You will have to explain to me those things,” Jno Baptiste Aaron interjected. “And again I hope it does not end up in a tirade because I am going to ask you to explain, explain to me how the working class is worst off, explain to me how the middle class is spiraling, explain to me those things.”

Linton explained the working class is facing limited employment, underemployment and income are depressed. He said the middle class is also facing limited opportunities to grow, limited opportunities to earn more money.

Jno Baptiste Aaron interrupted.

“Saying that there are limited opportunities in and of itself is not an explanation,” she said. “Where are there limited opportunities? The middle class in Dominica, for the information of the general public, the middle class consists of the teachers, doctors, nurses, people providing mostly in the service industry. The teachers, for example, of Dominica have never had more opportunities for growth in education than right now. Study opportunity, which means greater opportunity in various ways.”

But Linton said she had answered the question and asked that she move on to another.

And that is where things started getting really bad.

“Kamala Jno Baptiste, you are not going to correct my views, my views are my views,” Linton stated when he was told again to substantiate his position. “I am speaking to you and you are interrupting me to tell me what the correct interpretation of a downward spiral of the middle class is in Dominica. That is my view. There is a downward spiral, the middle class, in terms of economic advancement opportunities, are having it difficult …”

But Jno Baptiste Aaron kept demanding that Linton explain what he was saying.

Linton explained that the middle class, such as nurses and teachers, are living in circumstances where their incomes are not rising at the same rate that the cost of living is rising.

“And they are having more difficulties in making ends meet than they had in years gone by,” he stated. “That is my view, that is my understanding, that is my perception based on talking with people and knowing real life circumstances in Dominica. If you see it differently, that’s fine.”

The host then tried to explain how she sees it differently because she said Linton is interested in spreading propaganda without evidence but Linton said he was not interested in her views.

Then Linton asked, “Hold on, am I entitled to a view this morning that you are not going to try to correct?”

Jno Baptiste responded, “You are entitled to bring in the truth to power, as you like to say it, to the public, that is what you are entitled to do. I am asking you to simply back up what you are saying with evidence.”

Linton replied, “Ok, so as far as you are concerned, the middle class in Dominica is better of than off now than it ever was, so that is your view. My view is different. So let’s move on to another question.”

But Jno Baptiste Aaron would have none of it.

“You have not substantiated …” she began but was interrupted by Linton.

“I am not going to substantiate any further,” he stated. “You are not interested in substantiation. If you do not know, and you cannot appreciate that middle class people in Dominica are under pressure, then you cannot understand….”

Linton was interrupted to explain how the middle class is under pressure and he said he explained how their income is not keeping step with costs of living and so on.

But Jno Baptiste Aaron explained that the civil servants of Dominica have opportunities to get a mortgage that they never had before.

But she was interrupted.

“Why don’t you interview yourself,” Linton told her. “I am out of here. Have a conversation with yourself about the budget of Dominica, about the middle class, about the working class. Ask the questions to yourself, answer them. I am not going to subject myself to this absolute garbage.”

Jno Baptiste Aaron insisted that Linton substantiate his view but Linton said she was not allowing him to do so.

“You want to correct my views …. listen to my views and appreciate them,” he stated. “I am trying to talk to you but you are trying to tell me what I should think, what I should say.”

He insisted that she stick to the protocol of the letter of which he was invited to speak.

“Your modus operandi is always the same,” she told him. “People ask you to back up your views with facts, you get upset.”

Linton responded, “It is not a question of backing up ….it is a question of you stop behaving like the rabid political animal that you are, trying to hide under the cover of media practice. You are the press secretary of the government, hosting a conversation where the radio station has invited me to come here to talk about the budget and you are on an excursion all of your own talking about this, talking about that. Your whole purpose here this morning is not to try to listen to me and to let the public hear what I have to say. Your whole purpose is trying to embarrass me, to try to set your agenda to score one for the Roosevelt Skerrit administration. So you have just done that.”

With that, the interview ended.

If the PM was being inteviewed by Matt on Q95 he would not leave. What would happen is that Matt would have to make sure he has is facts correction which most of the times he does not have and he would end up looking like a reporter rather than a journalist. This is always what happens when leaders are hand picked and they are not fit for the job. They choose the easy way out. THEY QUIT LIKE LINTON. Doh tell me a woman of about 125 lbs have more guts than a 200lbs near retiree. Kamala you have physcologically defeated Lenox Linton the leader of the lame duck opposition.

I hope all of allu hearing or rather reading who is asking for respect for the position he holds?A man whop does not respect the office of the Prime minister is asking for respect. This is how it is going to play out on tyhepolitical landscape of Dominica. The UWP will be getting a dose of its own medicine it has prescribed for this Government. If and when the UWP gets into office which I doubt because this new hospital will be completed by the next election and will on its own taking nothing else into account will blow the sails of the UWP away. They will not attend the comissioning of that facility which will be the final nail in their coffin.

The two most politically biased journalists in the history of Dominica sat down for an interview. Saw this coming because none of them can be objective in their work. I know Lennox wasn’t acting in the capacity of a journalist here but serve him right because he would have done the same thing. As for kamala she is a joke. Seems like Lennox was bugging her with his responses.

Hello and good morning my people. First I must say that I don’t vote or take sides in Dominica politics but I do respect which party our people elect. Now Ms Aaron isn’t a journalist rather he is a Political hack who is there to give her party views. If one sent a letter to invite someone to come and discuss a particular issue which both agreed that they will strict to the subject then you should be professional enough to do so. Based on my reading of the article I would have to believed that she came in to ambushed Mr Linton but some blame should go to him because he should have walked out much earlier than he did. Mr Linton acted in a professional manner to the host but she continue to stray from the pre determined boundaries which was agreed to although he answered her off topic questions but she didn’t like his answers. One can’t asked a question and think you going to get an answer you like because things don’t work like that. Unprofessional .

Well Well so call workers supporters like to give bad medicine but they themselves all two face lots would not take their own medicine mr could not answer Ms Kamala questions so he walked out what is the big deal? Only a fool would have an interview with Kamala without any evidence the woman is a professional at her job, some people in Dominica would like to have little Hitlers running around destroying the Island but it will not happen again.

Rabid = unreasoning, headstrong, fanatical, This is one explanation given by the concise Oxford dictionary. Does this really describe Kamala? I leave it to the readers of this blog to decide. Meanwhile I think it is a valid question to ask if Cecil Joseph is really in charge of DBS or does he simply do his master’s bidding?

I read most of the comments here, and most seem on parr.
What I noticed from Mr. Linton was a man with Patience, you could clearly see that he was just trying to pacify Kamala, until she went over board, and he had to put her in her place.
Kamala was rude and disrespectful, however, Lennox handled her well.
She should have known better to try to go toe to toe with Lennox, after all Skerrit refused to debate him for the same reason, because he knew Lennox would chew him up and spit him out.

In the first place, one has to say, why did Mr Linton choose to waste his time on a run away radio station like Dbs. Dbs is state owned but it’s obvious that the Labour Party calls the shots.
Secondly, what else does one expect from this lady? Imagine, who is press secretaty? Having been sacked by q95, guess she got an upgrade based on affiliation.
All those so called journalists are just singing Skerritt’s tunes…..
If they ever loved Dominica, one would have expected them asking questions to the PM.

The interview was an exposition of how an irrational, inconsistent and fundamentally foolish woman can be easily baited into becoming emotional and losing lucidity due to her strong preference for emotive reasoning. She’s riding on a tidal wave of emotion, so the role of press secretary will be like a ‘bucking bronco’ for her. But, ho-ho-ho! Think of the fun we’ll have with her in the saddle!

Kamala has received many hits for this latest piece of gossip masquerading as an interview. I would like to ask Kamala one question. Where are the jobs that the Prime Minister spoke about, before he introduced the budget? He stated that, “Dominicans who reside abroad will soon be moving back home to secure the abundance of jobs that the budget will create?” I rest my case.

This opposition party is not ready for anything which would move the island forward. The present govt is crappy, but way craftier than the clowns in the opposition. We need a third party with honest down to earth people who will put the needs of the island before everything else. Misery loves company !

Ulterior Motive is what its called.
Its clear that Ms. JnoBaptiste had ulterior motive, which Hon. Linton picked up rather a second too late. Because he was adamant on sticking to the “talking point” he lingered on, but the point was to end this thing earlier than was done.

I cant understand how people allow professionalism to be dragged to the gutter. This was utter disrespect for the Opposition Leader and an apology should be given. These nonsense must be stopped as it is really dragging the name of the country Dominica to the dogs. I cannot but state that a once peaceful and loving island is turning into a politically divided country and will one day lead to utter chaos and disruption. Already the Salisbury matter is still lingering and has reached the courts. This is definitely not all but it is not good for the country.

I agree that this interview should never have happened. Why is the Government’s Press Secretary hosting Talking Point? why is this person interviewing the Opposition Leader? What a tragedy! Or is it a comedy? A host known for her arrogant, know-it-all, talking down style, interviewing an arrogant, angry, Opposition Leader, given to the platitudinous and vacuous, whose foreign policy, we might remember, is “based on enlightened global citizenship” Kamla seemed to have no real interest in discussing the budget; and Lennox was right to demand that she stick to the subject stated in his letter of invitation. And to repeat: the Government’s Press Secretary hosting Talking Point or interviewing the Opposition Leader anywhere at all. It is also shocking that Lennox agreed to do an interview with the Government’s Press Secretary, especially if he knew who that person was.

At 11:00PM last night I listened to a repeat of Talking Point. My question to the majority of the posters here on DNO did those trying to blame the host of the program listened to the interview? If you did most of the postings on this board would not be posted. I would even go further and say all who think the host of the program was in the wrong, did not listen to the show. And even after reading the DNO article I cannot see where the Leader of the Opposition walking out, any blame can be seen as that of the host of the program. No way, no how.

On another note but keeping with the mantra of the UWP and something positive happening in Dominica for Dominicans that members of parliament in the opposition UWP did not attend the Ground Breaking Ceremony of Dominica New National Hospital, except I understand the Parl Rep. of the Roseau South Constituency.

Thank God for this Government and our Chinese true friends. God Bless both countries because you show us you care.

:( It was a “bad idea” and UNPROFESSIONAL from the start to have a ruling government representative interview an opposing party representative. This “epic fail” should have been expected and is a failure on the part of the management of the state radio station (DBS).

As ignorant as the opposition leader may be, the actions of the politically motivated wanna-be “moderator” only made him a “martyr” and a victim of bias and discrimination.

The reverse happened where the Press Secretary now showed to the world that she CANNOT be neutral and made herself a very “hostile” interviewer which alone disqualifies her from that function.

She should have opted out from taking up that questionable role (to interview her party’s opponent) which would have eventually made her look unethical and unpopular in the international community.

A lot of commenters are criticising Kamala’s looks and say she lacks professionalism and that this was all a trap for Linton. I believe they are missing the point. This is not about Kamala.

The fact is that Linton is a journalist, a seasoned journalist who has interviewed numerous people including politicians. Linton very well should have EXPECTED and PREPARED himself for a grilling and for questions coming from all directions. Instead, he insisted that the interviewer stick to a script and ask and behave exactly as he wished. As a journalist he should have KNOWN to expect unexpected questions.

So I am very disapponted at Linton’s behaviour and how he handled the interview. This was his moment to reach a lot of listeners who don’t usually get to hear him. Now was his time to explain his position and he got plenty opportunities.

This was an ill prepared for interview by the host of the programme who failed to, from what I heard, the property courtesies and Protocal afforded to a member of parliament and the Country`s principle Opposition Leader. This is about the position and that must be respected. Also, “the budget” was the principle topic for discussion and unlike Hon Linton`s preparedness to accommodate and participate the host clearly was far from the issue at hand. I am still waiting to hear questions on the budget from this so called host. This is despicable and this lady should not be allowed to host such a programme of this magnitude anymore. I wonder why is it she is no longer working at Kairi FM, from where I heard the worse morning Hot Seat patronising Programme. As a leader vying for such a position Mr. Linton need to will and come again. One don’t go into battle unprepared. To whom much is given, much is required. Mr. Linton represents the people of Dominica and much more is expected of him if he is to become the Prime Minister of Dominica. Do you go out to battle and cry wolf when confronted by the enemy? This is very lame and unprofessional. Since the enemy ‘s job is to attack from all angles, it is your job to be prepared . Mr. Linton permit me to say that you were unprepared and as a result you allowed your emotions to take the better of you. The interviewer bowled and the responsibility was on you as a skilled cricketer to bat the ball skillfully hitting fours, sixes and even eights left, right and center. I agree with you; there was no form of unprofessionalism from the Lady Kamala, according to the News Article.

Questions were asked and answers were given. As the host, and depending on the answer from the guest, she had the right to ask for specification or substantiation to show the CONCRETE TRUTH or credibility of the answers given–especially that those answers pertained to the well being of Dominica and her people.

But quite a few times Linton tried to brush off from substantiating his answers, by simply saying you have your views and I have mine, \”lets move on to the next question\”. That is not classy; it is rude, it is not a response that should be uttered by the a leader in government; it is just not professional–Linton is just not qualified for the role which he holds; that is definite!

The great Dame Eugenia Charles once told a journalist during an interview ” good question, next question please”, without answering. The point is the interviewee is your guest not your adversary; secondly it is an interview and not a debate. Thirdly it is not a contest to see who is right and who is wrong. In the civilized world that does not happen. what happens in the civilized world after a high profile interview the News media house would assembly a team to do a post mortem or a critic and there and only there pronouncements are scrutinized and clarified by the panel or a critic of the individual who was interviewed. So I mean Lennox was in his right to disassociate himself with that carp that was being disguised as an interview.

Ask the same people who works for a measly fifteen hundred dollars per month, which is approximately fifty dollars per day, how much more the ruling political party politicians pay themselves per month.

They kill for Skerrit, yet Skerrit’s honest salary range in the thousands of dollars, I hear some of his puppets who can barely read more than sixty, or near eighty thousand dollars per year, I do not know if that is true. Nevertheless, $60,000.00/12 = $5,000.00 per month, they are not civil servants; they are political appointees.

The civil servants only earn $18,000.00 per year; approximately US$6,666.67 per year…

Dear Student, for this analysis you receive an “Insufficient” mark, that is below 30% meaning difficult to mark. The topic for the one being interviewed was the budget speech, the first and opening question expected from us journalists will be on the subject matter and as Linton as a politician gets comfortable on this matter, the hosts uses this opportunity to inject supplementary questions obviously on political and party matters relating to and relevant to the theme on the “Budget” . Kamala came prepared to kill and not educate the public. She disrespected her audience and the issue of the Budget. So Linton was correct, refer to the budget and then compare with other matters of the UWP activities, that is its relevance. Never attempt to kill your host, you, the interview will make, as was demonstrated, a fool of yourself. ….and Madam Kamala you did a good job of this. I am still LOL…lol….lol. Lennox was invited by DBS to talk about the 2016 budget. If you actually listen to the interview, you will see that Lennox was very tolerant of Kamala’s questions and he said over and over again that he was very willing to provide all the evidence she wants–but–in the context of the talking about the budget- which is why he was there. This interview was based on specific protocols and parameters. Kamala ignored all protocols and tried to make this a personal “lynching”/ interview. Given the limited time, I understand why Lennox did not want to stray too far off topic and every time he tried to bring the conversation back on track- Kamala was condescending and rude!! Everyone in Dominica heard Skerrit tell his followers to call UWP followers traitors wherever they meet them. Yet, Kamala pretending she didn’t hear that and she asking Lennox for evidence about that? The evidence came from Skerrit own mouth! Skerrit himself will not answer questions if they were not pre-vetted…

The people of Dominica were listening so that should have made him rethink of his actions, Linton came from that kind of back ground/work so he know what was expected of the interviewer of at lease had an idea, I don’t think he represented his party nor his followers to the highest level.

Kamala is simply a mouthpiece of the Government, we all know that. She does nothing except praise everything Labour, she is not an intelligent independent person that she thinks she is. However Lennox should have handled her better, she would not be difficult for him to out debate if he kept his cool.
The biggest question is WHO made the decision to have her conduct this interview because that was a hit job against Lennox.

Entertaining? Yes. But was Dominica benefited by this planned political circus?

Any new markets for our farmers?
    Any more visitors & tourists?
    Any improvements in our roads?
Any more lives saved in our healthcare system?

It’s time to get beyond the distractions and focus on what the people really need. Dominica can do better.

I think it was a stalemate on both sides.

Lennox Linton getting riled up too easily. He should have requested politely that somebody else interview him, since Kamala could not really be impartial. They already have a court case between them, so I didn’t think anything good would have come out of the fact that Kamala would be the one doing the interview.

Secondly, Kamala seems to have taken a very combative position from the get-go. I felt like the frequent pauses was her picking her words carefully so that she not get another lawsuit slapped on her. However, as a seasoned journalist, she ought to know that her opinions don’t count. You are there to do an interview. You can play devil’s advocate and ask a pointed, probing question. But her questioning amounted to harassment and belaboring of a point.

Thirdly, I feel that whoever set up this interview knew jolly well it was going to be a battle royale. (More ratings to boost up a third-rate radio station).

This looked like a ploy! From the onset she did not sound friendly and professional, but rather like someone who came to battle, and her phrasing is found wanting! She did not follow protocol as it relates to the purpose of the interview. I’m not trying to say that Mr.Linton should have handled it differently, as i’m confident he has the ability to prove his points.I am in no way close to Mr.Linton’s ability to have given the young lady the proof that she wanted, but i can give multiple examples as many other people of the island can, much more Mr.Linton,as to the accusations of the manner in which the rogue prime mistake handles the country. You hit the nail right on the head. Lennox is too concerned about Dominicans who are truly better off than in those days.
I am being fair. If Lennox did something good in Dominica I will compliment him and encourage him.
All what is occurring in Dominica did not exist then. If it keeps up and proceeding to the point of additional progress, many who reside abroad, will definitely consider returning home. It is still our country. Our bodies left home but not our hearts.
Lennox attitude is much ado about nothing; making a mountain out of a molehill. If only he would relax and allow the PM to perform his elected job. He, in turn should do what he can for the people of Marigot who elected him because of James who relinquished his position to give him this opportunity.

As a patriotic Dominican and in all fairness; I believe that Kamala should have been more professional than this. She should have allowed Mr. Linton to speak about the budget and then ask questions from his remarks. The manner in which she commenced was uncalled for; you don’t start to throw questions at the gentleman as he comes. On the other hand the manner in which the questions where phrased and posed could have gotten anyone upset. I guess that she already had her questions prepared so she went right into it. Kamala should have put aside her party color and acted in a more professional manner as a talk show host. I have been listening to “the talking point” program whilst on vacation and I believe that if she has to continue on this program she is only going to bring it to disrepute. My reason being, she never listens when someone is speaking, she needs to listen to others opinion, stop butting in when someone is speaking, because this is only going to stir up an argument.

All hosts of programs are different. They ask certain questions and the invitees could be ill-prepared to respond. This is what surprises them.
When the late Mandela visited the US, I recall when a US TV host asked Mandela a question and he responded, how shocked he was at Mandela’s reply. It was the talk internationally. I clipped out that article from the newspapers.
Therefore, they must be prepared to be asked some out-of-the-way questions and to promptly answer them, both ways. It is normal.
Lennox is always critical and on the defensive. He is thin-skinned. He must also develop a sense of humor, be broad-minded and be prepared for whatever question is asked. This is why it is called an interview.

I am unable to comprehend that whatever the PM says and does including his ministers, they are so consistently criticized. This is abnormal that nothing they do in general is acceptable.
Lennox must resign himself that he is not the PM. He is the Opposition Leader.
Lennox must pray to God to assist him, to release the hatred and critical attitude which he harbors and projects and to grace him with complacency, peace of heart and mind. He is badly in need of these godly virtues.
He must also pray the Serenity Prayer which everyone should know:

The point is everyone in Dominica already knows that Kamala is a puppet of Skerrit, but the Leader of the Opposition who is vying to be Prime Miniter cannot allow himself to be so easily rattled by lowering himself to her level, and that is what makes him unfit for the office of Prime Minister. You have to be able to banter with her, smile with her, and make her look petty but instead you lose your temper, just like he always does and storms out which portrays him as an angry man who can’t handle pressure, quick to anger and slightly emotionally unstable with no sense of humour, charisma or ability to charm a hostile interviewer, and all of these things make him unfit to lead…

Kamala came, she saw and tried to conquer Hon Lennox Linton. It would appear that she did not understand that despite all the criticisms by her husband about Lennox Linton’s education he is not easily conquered when he is in front of a microphone. I cannot understand why DBS would ask Kamala to interview Mr. Linton when she is awaiting her day in court, she was sued by Linton for deformation of character. Her husband is PRO of the DLP and has been attacking Mr. Linton non stop on print media and radio since September 2013. She is the press secretary of the Prime Minister, Mr. Linton is the Prime Minister in waiting. The Manager of DBS is a potoe Labor. Kamala might not consider herself human, but under the circumstances, only Jesus Christ could interview a Pharisee and not be bias towards him. What better way to convince Skeritt that her husband should be appointed Dominica’s Ambassador to the United Nations or she be appointed the next Madame Speaker.

I know this article is probably quite juicy to reading public. To me, it’s a grand waste of time. It’s been so many years since we were promised a new hospital and it’s only today that the ground breaking ceremony will take place. How many lives could have been saved if our health care sector was being updated slowly over that same time period? At some point in time, we need to get our priorities in order. This continuous “Political Clown Show” must end as quickly as it began.

    • @Anthony P. Ismael August 8, 2016 \” How many lives could have been saved if our health care sector was being updated slowly over that same time period\”

Everyone has their own opinion and so do you, however there are times we need to examine our thoughts before we express them. If I were you I would hold on to that thought of yours above.

When it comes to death or the passing of the body, no one has control of that. Lives are saved only if that person\’s days on earth was longer than the anticipated sign of death. There is no health faculty that is upgraded enough to stop someone from passing away, if that person\’s days on earth has ended.

But then again, this has nothing to do with the subject at hand, does it!

    • Tell the Facts
      August 8, 2016

The fact is we must be able to answer certain questions. Consider yourself at an interview, even as a job applicant. Consider the questions which are not related to the job will be asked. Should this not inform you that at any interview certain questions will be asked which may not related? It occurs all the time. If you do not respond appropriately, you may not be employed.
In our social life, how many times we are asked questions even by those whom we associate with that are out-of-the-way ones and unrelated to the conversation we are engaged in?
Believe me. I sometimes experience this. They could be annoying. I know how to answer them without getting angry and without informing the person to mind their own business. What happens? In the end be it the reply is sarcastic, we have a good laugh.
Lennox must be flexible, know how to respond and apply tact. He must not always be so serious.
I do think he also needs to learn proper communication skills.

Both parties need to take responsibility here. Linton and Kamala are 2 of Dominica’s biggest egos. Kamala asked relevant questions and even if there was a main focus – the budget, the questions she asked to open up was very relevant and this was Linton’s opportunity to boast about what they do. However, Kamala was wrong to interject so many times and sway the responses in the direction she wanted him to answer.

Linton on the other hand should know that in his position he cannot be shallow in his responses and should substantiate his claims. It is known in huge interviews like these that the interviewer can probe for more information or facts to back up claims.

At the end of the day, the person(s) who selected Kamala to facilitate this interview in her current position as Press Secretary to interview the leader of the Opposition is at fault. If you want an objective person then selecting someone who is not bias to party would of been a wise choice.

The interview could have been amicable and successful. For a politician Linton did not conduct himself appropriately.
As a previous journalist, is it that he is not aware or have forgotten that certain unrelated questions would be asked? If it were the reverse, he would have done the same or probably worst. He should have been prepared for that.
Lennox simply evaded the questions which were embarrassing to him and his unbecoming actions as a Leader of the Opposition. He failed and is also a disappointment.

This is very serious! If this was the tone of the conversation then we have a huge problem on our hand on this Island. While the host acted within her parameters demanding evidence the material at hand should have been the budget. Even after Linton expressed his views, they seemed to have been technically overturned!
Well this doesn’t surprise me because no longer can Dominicans express themselves openly, Jobs are continuing to take a fall for the worse, no increases for public servants, cost of living sprouts up, and dictatorship spreads from top to bottom!
There are two explanations for this: the unemployed and the persons who pay no or little taxes are greater in number than the working class and business owners; and do not understand the logistics of business, as a result drag businesses down basically by voting.
Additionally, persons with direct benefit persuade the unemployed and the ignorant, making empty promises to satisfy their needs.
    We have a problem here!

Kamala should know better. Lennox isn’t use to people asking him tough questions. He’s use to saying whatever he wants on Q. He is not mature enough to handle this type of conversations and does not have the temperament to be a leader. Sorry to say but UWP fini-bat with that leadership.

    • @?? August 8, 2016

Yes, you have a good point, but you spoiled it with you idea that Kamala should know better. This is not about whether or not Kamala knows better, she is just one person, whom we can simply reject or accept–regardless of her role; I could say the same for Lennox Linton

The problem is that Lennox is in a vital role, as leader of the opposing Government, but he continues to present nothing in him that qualifies him for that role. So where do we go from here?

Linton seemed to be all defensive and lost it, but it’s weird being interviewed on a state run station, by someone who works directly for the ruling party.

    • How can you say “Lennox seemed to be all defensive and lost it?”

However, in the same breath found it weird that Lennox was interviewed by someone working for the ruling party! Your intelligence should tell you that from the word go, the moment Skerrit gave the go ahead the plan was for the that girl, another of Skerrit’s puppet to try to create a situation to embarrass Lennox.

It’s a strategy, a ploy to deflect from something, if I am being interviewed and every comment I make, or every sentence I speak, the interviewer insists that I explain it or break it down to her, that is an indication that the intelligence if the person always demanding an explanation is not on the same level with me educationally, or they are simply deliberate.

The fact is Skerrit, and his kind believe that Lennox is not capable; and they are doing all within their power to keep him down, but as we see the ploy backfired in their face: Lennox did not lost it they try to insult his intelligence,…
