A man from Dublanc is reported to have been admitted to hospital with “serious injuries” after he was slashed with a cutlass early Sunday morning, December 27, 2015.
According to a report received by Dominica News Online (DNO), the man, identified as Jason Morancie, was attempting to stop an altercation between two other individuals when he was wounded with the cutlass by one of the individuals.
The incident occurred at about 5:20 am.
The DNO source said Morancie was rushed to the Portsmouth Hospital and was then transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he is now a patient.
Reports also indicate that the alleged offender left the scene of the crime in a vehicle.
DNO is continuing its efforts to get an official police report on the matter.
Dominica and St.Lucia drink from the same cup,it’s a chopping business going on such shame.
These people think violence is the problem solving answer let them call you coward for peace sake walk away. I hope the police caught whoever was involved. They should start giving these criminals stiff charges so that they will learn to respect human lives using a cutlass on someone in insane. Those who live by the sword die by the sword in life you never know. I recalled a guy broke into my aunt’s house and beat her and my grandmother with a cutlass years after some chopped him up so badly and he ended up losing his right hand. In llife what goes around comes around
“Someone?”…….hmmmmm!

Frustration and laziness have them behaving like that
Skerrit in New York for Christmas
At 5.20 AM when one is expecting that people are sleeping, yet they are fighting with cutlass injuring each other, gone are the days when a clench fist would quell a disturbance , now guns, stones knives and cutlasses are the answers. Lord help us.
The man was there trying to make peace and see what happens to him…
This is a typical example of ignorance and a wicked heart. The only manner he feels he could settle a disagreement is by using a cutlass. His aim was to badly injure and/or kill the man.
Such people project they lack communication skills and have a bad temper. They should be counseled against utilizing weapons of any sort on people.
The Court should impose on him, as an additional sentence, prohibition from having a cutlass. The same should apply to all who utilize a cutlass or other weapons as a gun.
This is a man, even though he may go to Church especially for Christmas, who never think of God and in times of adversities. Such people go to church for the sake of going and are in dire need of the blessing and grace of God.
Those who love God and love others will avoid harming them, be it with a weapon or with words; no exception through comments/responses on this Website.
No one can be genuinely good and loving without the blessing and grace of God.
DNO do you know that an individual got hurt by falling rocks under the coolibistrie cliff?
Admin: We didn’t. Thanks for the info. We will check with the police.
the yellow coward fled after the crime.
Is a cutlass chopping copycat that’s going on. Young man don’t fist fight anymore they just trying to criple each other but not realizing they are being charge big bucks for serious in jury, pain and suffering.
They should not fight in the first place. People must learn to walk away or end the argument on an amicable basis or simply stop arguing.
They have an argument and the best they feel to do is to take a weapon and hurt or kill the person. Then when in Court,, their attorneys plead on their behalf, saying it is their first infraction and they did not waste the Court’s time. Just imagine when their victim was made to suffer.
Fortunately in some cases, the victims do not die but it cost them an exorbitant sum of money to seek medical treatment to be healed, if they ever get healed. Physically and mentally, this could have a lasting effect on them for life.
Those who use a weapon against others should never be trusted for, at the first sign of the least disagreement, they will use it. Be aware of them.
i do hope that the individuals involved are caught and brought to justice. when are we going to learn that violence is not the answer, when are we going to learn that we cannot as a society, as a nation continue to assault, injure and kill our fellow brothers and sisters simply over a disagreement. why can’t we just walk away. why does it always have to come to violence. we are suppose to know better. you claim to be god fearing people yet you have no regards for human life. what happen to when a few fist or kicks would settle it and that would be it. Dominica used to be a peaceful and tranquil country, now for some reason all that have gone by the wayside. my people let us love each other and stop all the violence. we are a small country . we cannot continue on this path of self destruction. 2016 is upon us so let us change our mindset for the new year and try to live together in peace and harmony.
Sad, sad indeed!
I wish the injured individual a speedy recovery. May the good lord lay his healing hands on you for he said; “blessed are the peace makers…..”
We have a society that “appears” to be filled with anger and a lassayfier attitude. No law, Constitution of valiant effort of those with a heart can contain them. The question is WHY? Until we as a nation can work collectively with those who have identified the problem(s), admit we have serious issues and be bold, brave and decisive in our resolve we will continue to have such senseless incidents. Our youth are frustrated beyond comprehension but few “appear” to be listening to the voices of the sane. I am beginning to feel like we are being punished collectively for the sins of a few malaprop among us. I pray for DA.

Poor Dominica indeed. Not only that, it got worst. It should be a grave concern.
A lot of prayers are needed.. Worship, prayers, penance and sacrifice. This is what God expects of everyone especially those who are Christians.
