Mas Domnik 2019 a success say organizers

Organizers of the Mas Domnik 2019 have hailed the celebrations a success.

The celebrations came to an end on Tuesday (March 5) after two days of street jump-up in Roseau as well as other parts of the island.

“Jouvert is growing into something great,” Dominica Festival Committee (DFC) Events Coordinator, Marva Williams said during a media interview on Wednesday.

“We had some overseas media from St Lucia and they too were very impressed with our Jouvert and they were comparing it with St Lucia,” she remarked.

Williams was complimentary of the display of traditional bands and school bands on Carnival Monday.

“That was amazing,” she stated. “I am hoping in the future we can have lots more of the school bands come out and of course. Even the traditional Mas.”

Williams noted that the traditional Mas is what differentiates Dominica from other Carnivals in the Caribbean and, “we have to maintain that.”

From an organizer’s perspective, she said there are things that require improvement.

“We have seen so many ways to improve Carnival,” she noted.

Williams continued, “We have looked at Carnival Monday, we paid attention to the parade, the route… there are a lot of things that need improvement…”

Williams went on to say that she always pays attention to lessons learnt from before.

“We will be engaging our stakeholders, receiving feedback from them, what went well, what didn’t go well and their recommendations and we intend to implement that in the future of Carnival,” she promised

The DFC official thanked the Road Parade Committee, the DFC, all the members, everybody who was involved –  revelers, different groups, in making Mas Domnik a sizzling explosion

“We look forward to your continued participation for Carnival 2020,” she stated.

Meantime, Parliamentary Representative for Roseau Central Joseph Isaac described the Calypso Finals as “a good show.” However, he said, “More writers are needed in order to get diversity in regards to views on social, political, commentary and also other interests in the country.”

“Let us concentrate on the nationalistic approach in which all of us converge and help our country to be the best it can be,” Isaac suggested.

He said that there were no major incidents in the City or generally in the Carnival celebrations

“I just want us to keep it so after the Carnival,” he advised. “Let’s ensure that we have peace, love and unity in the country.”

Isaac thanked patrons who participated in the event and said he is happy that everything went well.

Good job overal by DDA and Carnival organizers. Some comments:
Too much dead time on Monday after the parade of school bands and traditional bands ( also too few traditional bands).
The Tuesday morning parade starts too late.
The hiifi trucks/bands need to regulate the sound level of their equipment. It’s too noisy and distorted. Many people will suffer from hearing problems .

Diversity of views Isaac? Well, the Hunter came with a very different and controversial view and he said is “jack” that told him so. In his song he accused uwp of setting fire on the streets of Roseau and he said is Zack that told him so. I n context of his song everyone understands Jack or Zach to be a former top member of the UWP that crossed the political floor and therefore the only person that comes to mind is Joseph Isaac. So Jack or Zack, since that matter is before the court and Hunter is a police officer, why are you not giving public testimony of what you saw, what you heard and what you were part of? I f you didn’t say that to Hunter can you please go on Kairie and tell Hunter you never said this or that?

So if Mass Domnick 2019 was so successful why Roosevelt Skerrit not cease on the momentum gathered from the carnival, and announce election? What is he waiting on? What he afraid of? Away not good news on the ground

If I were Marva Williams I would have hailed the 2019 Mas Domnik as a BIG success too. After all two days before Carnival she told us Skerrit gave her a carnival budget south of $700K, which left many sensible persons to wonder if that large sum of money was for carnival or for Ms. Williams to use in her election campaign, since she was recently announced by Skerrit as his candidate for Petitte Savanne. So to me even if we had a rain storm and no one turned out for carnival, Marva would still describe it as a BIG success because she would have already received the $700K dollars, in the name of Carnival budget. Now carnival is over and bills are paid I would like Marva to call a Press Conference to give account for every cent used, even to the last penny. In other words, IF they paid Crazy $20K to provide sound, say so. If they gave $300K to Melissa’s campaign or foundation, say so. We need a break down because we don’t want no Jumbee to attack us for his money

Did the organizers conduct a post mortem before just braying about how successful the carnival was? I doubt it.

She would say that, wouldn’t she. I did see little evidence of that $700,000 plus the government suppose to spend on this
Marva. Where that money go Marva?

When they ever said something different? Always a success yet still the patrons complain. I think it was very poor considering they were boasting of how much extra money they received.. What was done with the extra money??

Eye Zack. Diversity of views? One thing the calypso’s don’t tell lies; they are reflection of what is happening. Pity once was not composed about dangerous crossings. Hehehehehe
