The following is a letter of appeal to the members of the medical community by Tasha Roberts, a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner whose father is from Grand Fond and mother from the Grand Bay/Tetemorne area in Dominica. MS Roberts was a nurse for 8 years before becoming a nurse practitioner. Currently, she works at Houston Methodist Hospital in the Houston Medical Center as a Cardiology/Heart Failure Nurse Practitioner. Her last medical mission was in October 2016 in Haiti.
Thank you for your interest in the medical mission to the Common Wealth of Dominica. We are actively seeking licensed healthcare providers for our initial trip. Please make sure you include your specialty such as trauma, emergency medicine, pediatrics and so on.
This is not a trip where you will go and look for family members or tour the island. We will be working to provide medical care to diagnose and treat individuals in need. We are looking to get in touch with the minister of health and local medical personnel to find out the exact needs, clinic site locations, transportation throughout the island and possible sleeping arrangments. Due to the conditions, we ask that you pack a sleeping bag if accepted for the mission.
Pending on transportation from the US, we would range the trip for about 5-7 days. We cannot guarantee transportation for individuals outside of the US.
If you have contacts with transportation (air or boat) companies or sponsors willing to donate funding to assist with the medical mission please do not hesitate to contact us. We are also seeking medical supplies, unexpired medication, water purification tablets and so on.
Financial sponsors are of great need.
