Statement on CARICOM Foreign Ministers meeting with Juan Guaidó

In accordance with the decision of CARICOM Heads of Government to provide good offices in facilitating a peaceful resolution to the Venezuela crisis through a meaningful internal process, a delegation of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Foreign Ministers met with Mr. Guaido and a delegation of his representatives in Bridgetown, Barbados, on 23 March 2019. Mr. Guaidó joined the discussion via videoconference.

CARICOM Foreign Ministers acknowledged the meeting as a significant initial step in a series of potential engagements that should unfold by agreed mechanisms, within the framework of the Constitution of Venezuela and the rule of law.

The meeting provided a greater understanding of Mr. Guaido’s views and perspectives on how to move forward in the search for peaceful solutions, as well as his willingness to take part in meaningful discussions. The participants accepted the benefit of further engagement.

Participants expressed deep appreciation to Canada for facilitating the convening of the meeting.

Hello and good evening my people. Well this isn’t a true reflection or representation of Caricom because the Chairman wasn’t there. This is just to give America cover to invade Venezuela just like they did to Grenada but they face a serious problem because Russia will defend Venezuela just like they did in Syria.

So you mean all these heads had to fly to a meeting where the main person showed up via video? How disrespectful. Guaido had no interest in what we had to say but rather for Caricom to see his point. What a shame. These are out weak leaders.

“Guaido had no interest in what we had to say but rather for Caricom to see his point.” Is that not the point of finding a peacful resolution? In todays technology you can do video conferencing, and all which is just as effective. Your argument is so feeble. Seeing someone point does not mean you have to agree. The fact is there are two sides to the conflict and to find any workable solution is to hear both sides point of view and getting a common ground solution. Then iron out stark difference. CARICOM cannot find any meaningful solution if they dont listen to all sides. That is what wise people do. Weak leaders are the ones who do not have principles and believe they alone have solutions. Weak leaders are the ones who use millitary against civilians who show disapproval. Weak leaders are those who constantly seek love by giving freeness and money and always reminding people of thier position. Weak leaders are the ones who only operate by deception.

Shaka, face to face , in person, is always better. You get to watch that person eye to eye, you can view his/her body language, facial expressions up close. As I said before, there should be a negotiated and peaceful settlement. Guaido is no president, he is the leader of the main opposition. Your physical presence at a high profile meeting of this nature should be almost mandatory. CARICOM has it tight on this one, non-intervention.

IBO France i dont deny face to face is always better. However we all know the current circumstances. Additionally facial expressions body language and all that stuff means nothing if intentions conveyed dont match actions and when they don’t it was unforseen or beyond control. An honest man says what he mean and does what he says he is going to do and to me the only thing i judge a man on is his words and actions. Even if a man has evil intentions. For example if john doe says if you step in my yard i will take your limbs of and you stepped in his yard and get your limbs cut then thats a man od his word. If john doh says everyone welcome, i love you visit anytime and one day you step in his yard without notice and get you limbs removed then you know the animal you deal with. To convince me you speak straight and honest no matter the medium and let your actions do the rest. Also when you screw up take ownership dont blame others and aspire to do better.

You ever consider that if mr. Guaido travel to Barbados the Venezula government would let him back into his own country or that Maduro woul allow a Caricom delegation to come to Caracas for a meeting with the man. You just stirring up unhelpful mwpwi my boy.

With all the browbeating by Caricom of none interference in the affairs of sovereign states, why are they even talking to Mr. Guido? One got the impression from the various statements put forward by some Caribbean leaders and heads of regional bodies that Maduro is the legitimate head of Venezuela and Guido did not have legitimacy because he was a tool of America. First of all many other countries did acknowledge Mr. Guido as interim head of Venezuela. The reason for the ascendency of Guido is because the last election in Venezuela was not free and fair and the person responsible for the corrupt government is Maduro. Most Caribbean governments fail to register their principled position to let Maduro or any other leader know that this is unacceptable. Now that Caricom with the help of Canada is getting involved in finding a solution I hope they advise Maduro that he has to go, help in the process of legitimate good elections and they themselves practice good elections.

This statement says nothing. But at minimum we are glad to be informed that such a meeting took place.

Notably absent is Ms Baron from Dominica. All the posters of etelbot by borough square showing how much people he knows means nothing. In the past few weeks there has been all kinds of meeting going on about Venezuela, however the empty vessel was no where to be seen or heard. The policemen who ran an hide after Maria is typical of the kind of leadership we have in Dominica. It is no suprise that the leader of DA and to PF is from the same place. Bark loud when they see a lizard pass but as soon as tom cat show up run under the house and whimper with thier tail btw thier legs. Textbook sign of insecurities, weakness, and ignorance. A bunch of jokers.

This is a sensible move. Unfortunately, it throws ridicule on Tony Astaphan’s assertion (viz-a-viz St.Lucia’s P.M. attending Donald Trumps’s recent meeting in Florida) that Caricom must speak with one voice. A notable absence at the Caricom meeting in Barbados was our own Minister of Foreign Affairs Francine Baron, who has special responsibility for Caricom. Tony Astaphan claims to speak on behalf of our P.M. and I can only assume that the latter did not want to be involved in any
discussions with mr. Guaido under any circumstances. So much for Caricom unity mr. Astaphan!

Ummmmm, where is Francine anyone? Was her flight to those meetings delayed by an unrelenting snowstorm near Barbados?

(Now don’t tell me Dominica’s foreign minister intentionally skipped that meeting eh)
