Miss Dominica Tasia Floissac, has donated $1,000.00 to the Ministry of Social Services, Family and Gender Affairs to assist students who are still affected following Tropical Storm Erika.

The cheque was presented to the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Social Services, Family and Gender Affairs at a press conference held at the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) office on Friday.

The money was raised from collections received from one of Miss Dominica’s projects, “Hope after the Rain”, a concert held before the 1st Anniversary of Tropical Storm Erika at the Arawak House of Culture on August 26, 2016.

“Following a very successful pageant season, I resumed my social programs and projects under my platform F.I.R.E.S (Families Influencing Resilient and Empowered Societies). In August of this year my Queen’s Crew and I decided to host a concert, “Hope after the Rain” to commemorate the first Anniversary of Tropical Storm Erika,” Floissac said while addressing the presentation ceremony on Friday.

She continued, “Ever since Tropical Storm Erika, it seems we have all been somewhat afraid of the rain and what it may bring, and so our aim was to remind our nation that we are a resilient people even in the face of adversity.”

She said the concert was a great way to engage the Queen’s Crew in the spirit of “koudmen” , but also a way of extending support to those who were in one way or the other affected by Tropical Storm Erika.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Services, Family and Gender Affairs, Careen Prevost thanked Miss Floissac and her team for their assistance which she said she believes will go a long way.

“Some people may think it’s more than a year and why is this still necessary, but we know that some individuals were really severely affected by the storm and continue to require assistance moving forward, practically young people who are at school and we really appreciate this effort,” Prevost stated.

On behalf of the Ministry of Social Services, Family and Gender Affairs, she congratulated Miss Floissac and her team on her platform and the hard work that she continues to do throughout her reign.

She encouraged Miss Floissac to continue this platform to encourage young people to work with families and to lift up young women in Dominica.

Good Moring this is the only positive Carnival Queen ever . The queen gave her platform during the carnival and she delivered her promises. What a great Queen I wish you could reign for another year. Remember when u were not selected on your first attempt I told don’t worry It wasn’t your time and I was right .the time came and you delivered. Its not about just wining a crown for a country but placing empahcesss on developing young people and taking care of elderly. Miss Flosses I hope the Carnival committee will ensure that at the end of your reign you are recognise .The day will come for you reign to end as Dominica Queen but the work an and all your contribution will always stay on with you .I am hoping that who ever wins Miss Dominica 2017 will continue your tradition and go beyond just representing overseas for a Crown. bright future
