The National Employment Programmme (NEP) will be hosting a series of four one-day training programmes.

According to a release, the participants for training were selected from the pool of interns engaged within the private and public sectors.

“Two hundred and fifty-eight interns are registered to attend the training,” the release stated.

The first training session on Professional Development was held on November 30 and another on Basic Communication Techniques took place on December 1. On December 12, Resume Writing and Interview Techniques will be the focus of another such seminar and the final will be held on December 13 on the topic: Management Skills and Consumer Relations.

NEP Coordinator, Emeline Burnette- Honore, says it has been proven and recognized that effective training of employees is important for transitional success hence the reason for this series of training sessions funded by the Organization of American States (OAS) in collaboration with the Government of Dominica.

Burnette-Honore says she hopes that all interns who participate in these training sessions will be able to embrace the challenge as “we rethink, rebuild and transform” by utilizing the newly acquired and upgraded skills learnt in an effort to:

Ø  Become more marketable and develop a better understanding of self-assessment

Ø Demonstrate higher levels of professionalism and work ethics

Ø Better understand the Importance of delivering excellent customer service in relation to internal and external customers

Ø Understand how one’s attitude affects service standards

Ø Develop an overall exceptional professional image.

 She extended gratitude to the Government of Dominica for initiating such an important venture and to the Organisation of American states for making this training possible and thanked all participants for making the special effort to attend and for being part of this very important employment initiative.

    The slogan coined for this programme is a contradiction. A sustainable economy would not need a state financed NEP programme. A sustainable economy would create jobs that contribute towards fiscal income for government instead of being a drain on their finances.
    A sustainable economy would create employment where people can make contributions towards the social security programme from their own earnings. NEP is a cost factor, not a monetary plus. Does our government make social security contributions for the people on its NEP payroll?

    I get a. sense that De average NAP employee is lacking in some areas of formal education. I wonder if resume writing is taught at secondary schools or even Dominica state college.
    De prime minister gives De impression that De majority of NEP students are college and high school graduates

    You see that. The communist party has a hammer and sickle as its emblem.The sickle not used these days anymore, it may remind people too much of agriculture. Instead our govt. has a hammer and spanner, to knock our heads and tighten our nuts and an extra symbol of a computer screen to mould our brains ( according to Skerrit anyway). He is a psychologist remember so these symbols have a hidding meaning and message.

    NEP = Never Ending Poverty.

    We should concentrate on creating real jobs, real employment with no dependency on government.
