NCCU celebrates with “Sido” in Dubique

Sidora ‘Sido’ Alexander

Management and staff of the National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) joined family and friends of Sidora “Sido” Marie Alexander at Dubique on Sunday to celebrate the centenarian’s 105th birthday.

The NCCU adopted Sido six months after her 100th birthday and organized a big celebration for the centenarian when she reached a 102 years.  The NCCU has since been providing for Sido every month, ensuring that all her needs are met.

A thanks giving and longevity service was conducted by parish priest, Monsignor Reginald La Fleur who, in his homily, described Sido as “a living icon.”

“We have so much to learn from her, eating habits, rich culture and so we have to be extremely grateful to God for Sido who is a living icon in Dominica at age 105,” Fr. La Fleur said.

Parliamentary representative for the area, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, also gave an address at the ceremony giving the assurance that as parliamentary representative, he would “continue to work hard to ensure Sido is properly taken care of.”

Minister for Community Development, Gloria Shillingford, president of NCCU, Dexter Ducreay, NCCU CEO, Aylmer Irish and president of the NCCU Fun Care, Mavis Williams also made remarks at the ceremony.

Below are a few photos of “Sido’s” 105th birthday celebration.

Congratulations to Ms. Sido on your 105th birthday. You, centenarians must have done something good. Longevity is granted by God. It is a grace to those who deserve it, who have worked hard and no doubt in their lifetime have performed unfailing and untiring acts of love, charity, compassion and mercy.
May God bless you with continue life as long as He sees fit.
Only last evening in talking to someone we reminisced about our ancestors. I said, how I wished my grand parents were still alive but hopefully, one day, we will meet in Heaven.
Thanks to management and staff of the Credit Union who have undertaken to financially take care of her. My heart is overflowing because of your generosity to one in need. This is a mark of God’s love, blessing and graces working in you. As Our Lord has promised, your reward will be awaiting you in Heaven. He also said, “Whatsoever you do to the least of these, you did to Me.”
DNO, we would love to read more about their lives and how they lived. Nothing negative but only good. Their lives could be an incentive to the youth.

What a wonder to behold. That’s good eating and natural exercise for sure. No fast food; Kentucky-fried chicken and pizza. A stress-free life is also equivalent to longetivity.

i would like to congratulate Sidora for her long life and to her family for taking care of her through those years , I can only image that it was not easy , but God is good . To the family you guys made it to 105 together . I wish my grand ma had lived that long and now i am hopping my mum does live to reach this age.
on another note , politicians , politicians, Mr Darroux said that he will work hard to ensure that Sidora is properly taken care of , what make him think that she has not and isn’t been properly taken care of , she is 105 years old, please. As we know after this ceremony is over they will not see him again, I am from that area i know you only see your Pal Rep when you standing by the road side.. I hope he concentrates on the next generation so they reach that age .

The ppl is not saying that Sido family and friends are not doing a great job therefore I would suggest that you think out side the box because sometimes you guys could run into difficulties getting special service for Sido it could be fustrated enough to solicit the help of the ppl so dont be negative instead be positive .
Again I wish to congratulate ” Sidora ” a happy birthday and I know that the hand of God will continue to be on her always.
